So I wanted to talk about Doctor Who but then that finale happened and threw things off quite a bit. Spoilers ahoy:
Let's get the big part out of the way: Ncuti Gatwa was completely brilliant and compelling and made for the most engaging version of this character ever, a real growth in so many ways, and he is really going to be missed.
I think it's a serious shame that the last two (three?) Doctors have had some of the thinnest material that did them no justice (I'm talking 13, Ruth and 15), and RTD's return wasn't so much a herald of another era of greatness, but just how much the well has run dry for ideas.
That said, there is a lot to praise for the way a gay showrunner and his queer Black lead went full throttle with putting DEI in the faces of a company (Disney) that (Andor notwithstanding), is showing a lot of compliance with a certain fascist regime. The reminders of how racism is still VERY much a problem in our world and the Doctor getting a lesson (in a way that 13 sort-of-did-but-not-really over sexism) during a time when that history would be erased by the current administration? Of course Disney didn't promote the show for shit.
Whatever Gatwa's reasons for leaving so soon, I hope he goes on to bigger and better things. He really did bring joy back to this character and rose above an awful lot to get there.
Now, as far as Jo Martin showing up (in The Story and The Engine) and Jodie Whittaker having a moment with what should have been her successor? It really doesn't make up for how they were pretty much dismissed and the way the "degeneration" was handled, but it was still wonderful to see them and to have that acknowledgement.
Might write at some point about some of the finer points of this season and some of the issues brought up, but no energy for it.
I'm so glad we had Ncuti as The Doctor.
Which leads to *his* successor and I'll say it straight up: there is no way it's Billie Piper.
The way this has been handled (and how coy they've all been in the press) makes me think they do not have a successor yet (maybe because the order for another series hasn't been given), and they're going to do a little filling in. Maybe there's hope of Ncuti returning. I don't know.
Pretty clear they weren't going to give it to Jo Martin (The Story and The Engine put her in his past), which is a shame, so just has to suffer over that, but Piper? Clearly not morphing "from" him but being keyed on, like an overlay and saying Hello directly to the audience?
It's filing in till they have a direction. At least I really hope so.
My personal choice for the next Doctor? Thandwe Newton, please, and if possible, a new showrunner. A woman, maybe. For funzies.

I never thought I would have the chance to see David tennant and Billie piper reunite on screen after the 50th anniversary where moffat kept them seperate. If RTD pulls this off it will heal an inner child in me.
Praying Billie’s playing actual rose Tyler/ bad wolf and not the doctor and we get a real reunion with 14 for fun and then a fresh new actor (or Ncuti back)
#big day for rose Tyler lovers#doctor who#rose tyler#I love rose tyler more than this show tbh#tenrose

Personally I don’t think Billie is the doctor, or if she is it won’t be for long. I think David will return for a smaller part and seeing Rose’s face, (confessing?) will help him finalize his healing and end the bi-generation to return as one.
Remember he could not admit in the 60th that he loved rose, yet 15 could. Either they don’t have a new doctor cast, or maybe 14 would turn into a newer full Ncuti?
But I don’t think it’s nolstagia bait, RTD has always left breadcrumbs of Rose and I think he planned to give the doctor closure from the start. I’m excited but I am a little scared they will mess up Rose’s send off.
Also, I’ve seen a lot of people criticize how short Ncuti’s era was but we have to think that he is in the height of his career right now and he may want to jump into some more serious projects.

Tired of seeing everyone boil down tentoo to a “clone” or a “copy” ignoring that ever since the tenth doctor regenerated, all he has wanted to be was human. All he wanted was a life with rose, and he fell in love with her humanity. He wanted to be human for her it’s literally imbedded everywhere in his story arc.
-“you can spend the rest of your life with me, but I can’t spend mine with you. that’s the curse of the time lords”
-Doing soooo many domestics with Rose
-Whole season is reminders of their gap in mortality
-every mention of the “slow path” ever
-In season 3 when the DALEKS SEC TURNED INTO A HUMAN HYBRID
-Followed by when HE LITERALLY TURNED HUMAN AND DREAMED OF A QUITE LIFE
The metacrisis ends up being everything the doctor wants, and is him. But he will never experience his life, and he hates him for it which is why he makes him out to be dangerous. It’s half guilt-tripping Rose to pick the sensible choice, and half pettiness.
And afterwards, he loses his humanity, as if the metacrisis took it with him and goes on his time-lord victorious war path. The metacrisis is more than a quick fix to make sure Rose and Donna exit the show, he was planned all along and Journeys End is the best finale.

I feel like a lot of ships that people argue are actually “siblings vibes” are actually ships built on mutual respect and aren’t lead by sexual feelings/urges/tension. God forbid a romance start with an innocent slow burn based on feeling seen

Feeling torn because I am not happy about how the bi-generation felt like (to me) a poorly planned self plagiarism of journeys end and sort of negated Tentoo’s relevance to plot, and the fact that living a human life with Rose was supposed to be the happy ending for DT doctor.
HOWEVER, I do love the idea of the doctor seperate himself from the tired and miserable part of him. 15 seems so freer and hopeful, and I am so excited about Doctor Who entering a new era because it really needs ones.

My Tentoo X Rose head canon is that they have the messiest house imaginable.
Like this is Rose’s room, granted she was 19 but I bet in Pete’s world she lived in the Tyler mansion which had maids so she probably never became accustomed to routinely tidying and organizing
And tentoo? That man definitely relied on the TARDIS to clean up his clutter, that plus she is so giant there was always a place to put something. But all his inventions, his tinkering in a normal house/flat? Their house is 100% a hoarders house with stuff scattered on every surface top
