for some reason dick & jason's relationship is often written as if jason was supposed to know plenty about dick even before they met for the first time, but in canon he knew close to nothing other than the fact that he was the previous robin (or rather, not even that, but i sort of refuse to believe that the topic did not come up even *once,* no matter how much bruce would like to avoid it). hence, i think upon hearing that dick used to be in a circus, jay should (completely seriously) ask him if he was a clown

the thing is that "protagonist forced into artificial choose-who-dies dilemma" is a standard storyline in superhero media, and the correct answer, if you are the superhero, is always "push the limits of what should be possible to find a third option and save everyone." unfortunately, utrh is not really a superhero story. bruce has abruptly found himself in the wrong genre.

you can't blame jason todd for making "that one time i died" his whole personality. it's thematically consistent. The Mission is all about lost innocent lives for everyone, it's just that the rest of them are acting in the name of some (usually familial) third party (usually dead parents) while jason's trying to avenge himself (or the person he used to be) (before the child murder via clown) (who's probably murdered a ton more children in the meantime) because it seems like no one else is gonna do it. personally i think the fresh perspective on what the victims they couldn't save would - and do - want, is at least as interesting as putting words in the mouths of people who can't speak for themselves anymore for the billionth time
