One of my pet peeves with the SSO naming system is that it has been impossible to give Icelandic horses Icelandic sounding names! Now with the updated names list it had become a little easier.

I have compiled a list below in case anyone out there shares the same annoyance as me.

Icelandic sounding horse names

Ala (Ála) = Mare with dorsal stripe

Allda (Alda) = Wave

Allmir (Almur) = Elm tree

Eggla (Egla) = Eglas or Egils saga is an ancient Icelandic family saga.

Elding = A bolt of lightning

Ida = Female name

Imir = Grey wolf

Sunna = Sun

Una = Female name that means loved

Ymir = A being from Norse mythology

Yra (Ýra) = Drizzle

Yri (Ýri) = A dark horse with light spots

Ysa (Ýsa) = Haddock

currently thinking about how, sure, this year's Halloween horses don't particularly look scary, but then you get into the lore, and it becomes more gruesome and horrific.

we must keep in mind that these were living, breathing creatures. not now-animated objects. they had hearts, lungs, and now, one is a machine and the other is made of wood.

transforming them into these creatures had to be painful. going from flesh and blood to hollow wood, feeling your body die actively all around you, what was once your flesh now cracking and splintering under pressure.

a body, once warm and alive, now cold to the touch and requiring oil to move relatively correctly. you don't have a heart or lungs, but wires and an engine.

idk lots on the mind with this one. i don't think we've been exploring enough to recognize the actual horror behind them.
