What started out as my intention of having a blog about my time on the JET Programme ended up to becoming a blog about my (school) lunches.

Today's lunch: khao soi, Northern Thai coconut curry noodle soup.
It's my first time having it. It's like Singaporean laksa. It was pretty good. I'll get it again.

Today's convenience store lunch : chilled bang bang chicken noodles.
It wasn't bad. I wished it was a little bit spicier and there was more sauce to coat all of the noodles.

Today's convenience store lunch : spaghetti with pork belly in garlic butter sauce.
It was OK. So much carbs. I wish it had some more greens in it though.

Today's convenience store lunch : chilled dan-dan noodles again. Minus the ramen eggs to save some calories and money.

Today's convenience store lunch : chilled shoyu ramen with dried sardines and shredded nori seaweed.
The deep-fried shallots smelled heavenly. But they got overpowered by the salty soy sauce broth. Actually, there's too much broth IMHO. It drowns out everything else. Can't taste the red onions, can't taste fried shallots, can't taste the nori, etc. Overall, refreshing but missed opportunity. Would've been great if there was less broth so I could taste all the other toppings.

Today's convenience store lunch : chilled pasta with boiled chicken and ume plum paste.
Despite its bland name, it wasn't bad. The shredded raw daikon added a crunchy texture. The ume added a nice sour tart contrast. The shredded shiso leaves added a fresh minty contrast. I assume the okra's role in the disk was to lubricate the pasta with its sliminess.

Today's lunch: taco rice from local bento shop, and a peach tart from LAWSON.
The peach tart had half of a peach on it.

Today's convenience store lunch, same thing as a couple of days ago: chilled dan-dan noodles, and medium-boiled eggs for the extra protein.

Today's bento shop daily special bento : braised mackerel, and deep-fried imitation crab bento.
This was similar to what I had the other day, minus the meatball skewer. It's the first time I've seen them repeat a menu nearly back to back. But I didn't mind. I liked this menu. Also, eating braised mackerel is healthier than a piece of fried katsu.

Today's convenience store lunch : chilled dan-dan noodles, and medium-boiled eggs for the extra protein.
These noodles were a new item. They weren't bad. Not spicy enough for me, but had a slight Szechuan pepper fragrance and flavor. The ramen eggs were good too. Slight saltiness from the soy sauce marinade and nice gooey yolk.

New chicken, ham, and "pastrami" sandwich at FamilyMart.
I opened the sandwich to check its contents, and it technically did have pastrami (a singular piece) in it. Despite that, I like the sandwich and would get it again if I see it. I never thought I'd say that I enjoy pickles, but the small pieces of pickles in the tartar? sauce adds a nice tartness and character to an otherwise bland mayo sandwich.

Today's bento shop daily special bento : grilled mackerel and tofu? "meatballs", and deep-fried imitation crab bento.
I'm glad that most of the bento wasn't deep-fried. The crab stick was deep-fried but it wasn't overly heavy.

Today's supermarket deli lunch : cold dipping soba, and sashimi.
I'm tired of eating fried stuff nearly every day for lunch, so I went to the supermarket to get something more light and refreshing. It was SO hot and humid outside! It's not even full summer temperatures and humidity yet! I wanted some ice cream but it'd melt before I'd get to the first street corner.

Today's school cafeteria daily lunch "rice" bowl : kara'age miso ramen. It's too hot for ramen, but I'm so tired of eating deep-fried stuff every day for lunch. Yes, I'm aware the kara'age is deep-fried. But it's just one piece.

Yesterday's school cafeteria daily lunch special set : pork and bamboo shoot stir-fry set.
I'm so glad it wasn't something deep-fried.

Today's school cafeteria daily lunch special set : deep-fried horse mackerel and deep-fried luncheon meat.
I don't know what the new tartar sauce is made of. It's way too white to be mayo.
