Birthdays

Like many human constructs, birthdays make us feel special but the reality is it's a celebration of how we are all the same. Everyone that is, or has ever been, can have their age calculated by the number of times the earth has circled the sun.Maybe we should increase the importance of this similarity.

Maybe we shouldn't think of birthdays as a celebration of "me," but instead, how long we have been co-inhabitating this planet. Finding more reasons to bond than call out our uniqueness, because as unique as we each feel, as smart as we each think we are, it is the communal truth that prevails.

Happy Birthday to all of us that have coexisted for another trip around the sun. I look forward to many more days with each if you.
