Is thıs a goodbye?

Hi everyone!

In this post, I am going to talk about this term and how this course helped me to improve my skills. When I first heard about this course, I thought we are going to do some power point presentations. However, it was not like that, I am so happy that it was not actually. Because when it comes to use technology, I always get so nervous. So, at first I was not so happy about this course as I thought I cannot be able to do the assignments or what to write in these posts.

As the time past, while doing my assignments with the tools that I never heard, I started to realize that it is actually fun to do because whenever we had assignment we met with our friends and tried to discover how to use it and while doing that some weird and funny stuff can occurs. Besides, it was not that hard as I thought to use technology with some assignments but taking some time to them. You can easily learn how to use any tool or application on your own.

Now when I look at my posts I can remember how I did them and have so much fun while doing some. For example, the podcast assignment was so funny to do, me and my pair irem could not stop laughing in every step like creating a story and recording.

To summarise I am so glad to take this course, I want to thank my teacher Gökçe Kurt for this course, making me feel more confident as a future teacher and for pushing hard us sometimes at least, it was hard sometimes for me. As I said, I was not good at technological stuff. Now I may not be so good but at least I feel much more confident about using technology with my future students and I know that I can use any kind of it if I want.

And no, I don’t think this is a goodbye because if I have any kind of thing that we can use in our future class or a tool that we should absolutely use I want to share them here again. I hope all of my friends will continue to post.

What is RSS Reader?

Hi everyone!

In this post, I am going to talk about what is RSS, How or for what can we use it.

At the beginning of the term, we supposed to start using an RSS reader. So, I did.

RSS is short for Really Simple Syndication. So what does it mean? It means that RSS is a tool that help you follow different types of blogs or websites on the same place. So, you do not need to create so many accounts to follow different blogs at different places.

My RSS reader is Feedly. I chose Feedly because you ca use it online without downloading anything. You just need to sign in then you can start following whatever blog/website you want.

Among the all blogs that I follow my favourite one is ‘Teaching with Technology’ because I do not have so much idea about how to use technological tools in classroom and luckily I have a course about this. Following this blog helps me to find the right or more useful tool to use for my assignments.

WEB 2.0 TOOLS

Hi everyone!

In this post I am going to show an infographic of my favourite web 2.0 tools. As you can see our assignment was to create an infographic about web 2.0 tools and to give brief informations about the tools we chose. Firstly, I decided which web tool to use to create an infographic. Then I choose my favourite web tools. These are Canva, Voscreen, Grammarly and Vizzlo. Later I made a research about them. Basically, I tried to answer how to use, is it easy to use, is it beneficial to use, is there any disadvantages of these tools, in which aspects it can help me and why I choose them?

Actually, one of the main reasons why I choose these tools is because I made mostly of my assignments by using these tools. And except one of them is free to use.

Hi everyone in this post I am going to show you a video of my friend and I. We made a video about our friendship, how we become good friends, why we are good friends and the real meaning of friendship for us.

Making a digital story looks simple; it is simple actually, if you know what you need to do. Before we start we planned our parts. Later we found our pictures, found a song that we both love and started to make the video.

At the beginning it was easy to continue but then suddenly our application turn off and deleted the whole of our process. Then we had to start all over. But in the end we managed to finish it without trouble. The only trouble is the filigree on the video and that’s because the application we use was trial version.

In the future I can use digital story, and can give similar tasks to my students because digital story can be used in classrooms effectively. So they can learn it while doing it.

A Poster for Hollywood

Hi everyone!! As you can understand from the title a made a movie poster for a book that I would love to see it as a movie.

The name of the book is ‘The name of the wind’ and author is Patrick Rothfuss.

I am not sure if I would give a similar task to my students in future. I think if they are going to be teachers like me I would give the task because it can be useful for them in the future.

Hello everyone again!!!

This week I am going to share a padlet page that my friends and I created we were 8 people and distibuted the duties. There were 4 parts so every part was made by two people. My friend Hilal and I wrote about what we can do to decrease the traffic in Istanbul.  In padlet we discussed the traffic problem in Istanbul, we talked about causes-effects, we interviewed with people and talked about what we can do to solve it.

Padlet is a technological tool for every subject. It is a page actually where everyone can contribute or create a page about whatever you want. It can be used for many purposes for educational purposes or to discuss about issues that you want as we did.

BOOK REVIEW

Hi everyone!!

This week we are going to look at my book review of one of my favourite novels Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

I have read this book third time. I love reading it even if first pages are boring because it shows us how being arrogant to others effect our lives and how loving someone truly can change us in a good way.

So ı think, you should read Pride and Prejudice, and ı am sure that it can change your point of view of world.

Teaching With Technology Philosophy Statement

With the development of technology today’s World has become easier. We use technology in our daily lives in every aspect. One of these aspects is education. In previous days both teaching and learning had limited sources. And these sources were hard to access sometimes. So, using technology in education is really important for today’s teachers and students.

There are so many advantages of using technology in education such as it is much easier to collect and save datas for example teachers can save students’ information like their notes, attendance, informations about their parents etc. Being able to reach the information needed is another advantage, because teachers can save their time and use it to teach more. Students can find so many informations on their own with technology. They can find exercises, teaching a topic, speaking-listening-reading-writing practices or even find native penpals around the world. And I think be able to get feedback immediately. Because they can learn the correct version of their mistakes or errors.

Of course like every other things in life technology using in education has many disadvantages. Like students can be distract by technology, because there are so many things that cannot be useful for them.  When making information easy to reach also make information easy to copy or steal. It can make students to be lazy about their homeworks and can reduce their creativity.

As a future teacher, I would like to use technology in a good way. Because I want them to be able to learn by using technology. Actually my fear is not to be able to use future’s technology because time is passing so fast and with that technology, too. If I can’t use that technology and teach with today’s technology, it will be awkward. So, I am going to learn technology as possible as I can and definitely use it in my classes.

For this week we are suppose to create a podcast. İrem and I chose to create a story, first we write the story outline and then we recorded it. Lastly we attached the sound effects which were related to story.

Actually it was a really enjoyable process but it was not easy to find the right sound effect for the story. I would love to use podcasts with my students in future. Because they can make students listening skill better.

CALL is the short form of computer assisted language learning. CALL has become popular when we start to use computer in our daily life. The main purpose of CALL is to make learning process easier and to make learning more permanent.

CALL is divided into three phrases:

BEHAVIOURIST CALL (‘60s-‘70s)

•Includes drills and practice materials.

•Computer-stimulus-student's response-computer feedback

•Computer seen as mechanical tutor

•Students are not active

COMMUNICATIVE CALL (‘70s-‘80s)

•Focus is on the language use

•Grammar is taught implicitly

•Computer as a tutor and stimulus model

•Doesn’t support telling students’ wrongs

INTEGRATIVE CALL (MID’90s AND ‘00s)

•Focus is on the use of multimedia and internet

•Allows interactions between other language learners

•Computer as a facilitator

•Supports use of text, image, audio etc. in presentation

Let’s start with language learning. We know that language learning changed through the years but we mainly focus on 21st century learning. Over the years, technology has developed so much and normally this development start to effect our lives in many aspects. Language learning is one of them. With technology’s development, the ways people learn language changed both in classroom and outside the classroom. For example, students can learn language with visual assessments and audio assessments can practice on internet with native speakers of the target language.

Technology improves some skills of the students like 4C’s. So what are the 4C’s?

•Critical Thinking

•Creativity

•Communication

•Collaboration

When learning language in 21st century these skills are more focused than past because of the development of technology. The focus of the teachers is to make students communicate, collaborate, to think critically and to be creative instead of making lesson teacher centred as it was in the past.
