Leaving by Jake Seeley
When did you decide to pursue a career in filmmaking?
I’ve wanted to work in the entertainment industry since I was about 12-years-old. Growing up, I loved listening to the radio and would create my own little shows. I decided to major in radio, but I ended up falling more in love with television when I got to college.
What motivated you to make the short film Leaving?
Leaving is about that transition from high school to college and how most kids don’t have a choice in the matter. I wanted to tell the story without actually saying what was happening. Making the film was an opportunity for me to express myself in a vulnerable way.
What does “creativity” mean to you?
To be creative, you have to be consistent with what your creating. It takes immense dedication to stay creative, and you have to be willing to make sacrifices. It’s ok to be proud of your completed work, but you must never stop creating.

Born to Create by Mia Marcus
When did you decide to pursue a career in filmmaking?
Growing up, I was always interested in the “movie magic” my dad said went into making movies. When one of my friends in high school got really into making YouTube videos, I took an interest in what she was doing. I picked up a camera and started making my own short films and comedy sketches, and I soon realized I wanted to spend the rest of my life creating art.
What motivated you to make the short film Born to Create?
One of my assignments for an internship was to enter a contest. That’s how I found CreativeFuture’s video contest, and I thought it would be a fun way to express myself. After watching many artistic videos and being inspired by the people around me, I came up with the idea to paint a picture and reveal it at the end.
What does “creativity” mean to you?
Creativity means expressing yourself in a way that not many people do, and it’s about creating something new in a fun way. Most importantly, it means doing something you love.

Artax by Ashley Matt
When did you decide to pursue a career in filmmaking?
While I often said zoology director was one of my dream jobs growing up, filmmaker wasn’t far behind on that list. I’ve loved cinema ever since I was a child. I studied art and journalism as a college student 10 years ago, but I didn’t find the confidence to pursue filmmaking until recently, about 4 years ago.
What motivated you to make the short film Artax?
Artax was born from a feature I was developing a few years ago. I was living in a remote cottage in Crete with nothing to do but write. After that experience, I started craving the ability to put something together that wasn’t just a script. This exposed me to producing and what it means to actually get a film made. From licensing stock footage to hiring voice actors, the practices I learned from making Artax helped bring to life two other shorts and my directorial feature debut, A Walk.
What does “creativity” mean to you?
Creativity has a few different meanings for me. It’s an emotional outlet and gives me purpose day in and day out. It’s also important because it’s my career and how I support myself. Some people make software, some people make molds for screws, and I make films.

Anti Smoking by Austin Greene
When did you decide to pursue a career in filmmaking?
I always had ideas for films and cinematic shots, but they always stayed in the back of my mind. When I went off to college at Penn State, I continued to shut out those thoughts by choosing to major in chemical engineering. One day, I decided to listen to my heart and made a comedic sketch. It ended up being a huge hit, and I even said to myself, “Filmmaking makes me happy.” When I got home from Penn State, I started making short films, comedic sketches, and later formed a sketch show at my new alma mater, the School of the Visual Arts in New York City.
What motivated you to make the short film Anti Smoking?
Filmmaking is like lighting a match. The match represents the idea in which all films are born, but good ideas can go away really quickly. You have to act on them immediately or you risk losing the ideas forever. When I was home for the summer, I had the idea to make a comedic sketch about a person trying to smoke, but who can’t because every time he puts the cigarette to his lips, another hand takes it away. I made Anti Smoking with the help from my neighbor.
What does “creativity” mean to you?
To be creative means to follow your ideas and dreams and to never let your imagination die. There is an old philosopher who defined a genius as someone with the same curiosity they had as a kid. As a creative, everything is interesting and anything can be turned into a story. I believe creativity has a lot to do with curiosity. It is also being true to yourself.

Real Life by Craig Sephton
When did you decide to pursue a career in filmmaking?
Movies have always been a big part of my life, but it was Jurassic Park, and some other hits from the 90s, that really inspired me to go from viewer to filmmaker. After studying Radio and Television Arts in college, I decided to make my own way into filmmaking. I spent six months in Vancouver working as a production assistant on all kinds of films ranging from small indies to big blockbusters.
What motivated you to make the short film Real Life?
I wanted to parody the sad fact that many people refuse opportunities, even when the door is left open for them.
What does “creativity” mean to you?
Creativity means being able to capture your point of view at any moment. It’s all about taking a single feeling, a single event, or even a single look and expanding on it. This sometimes requires the ability to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Creativity strikes at the most unexpected times, and it’s up to the artist to be ready when that lightbulb goes off.

What does “creativity” mean to you?
Creativity is the truest form of self-expression and seeks to answer the big question of “why?” It facilitates communication and insight into the human condition. Respect for creativity needs more attention. I submitted the film for CreativeFuture’s “Contribute to Creativity” contest because, I think, piracy is a neglected issue. It’s hardly discussed in the classroom and piracy will end up hurting us as aspiring filmmakers.

What motivated you to make the short film Create?
Create came from a place of frustration as the gap between creator and viewer grows. I hope the film inspires those viewers to get out and create too. As individuals, we have the ability to create in our own way that is as unique as a fingerprint. It is the essence of what we do as humans.

When did you decide to pursue a career in filmmaking?
Before I decided to pursue a career in filmmaking, I was looking at Vanderbilt for obstretrics. In my mind, creativity was something you did on the weekends. Halfway through high school I decided to follow my passion and turn my hobby into a career. Coming from a small town, I sensed a certain stigma against my decision as many of my peers opted to study medicine, an obviously honorable and necessary career choice in itself.
