Biography:

Jack Wexford is a liar. A harsh statement but nonetheless, it is true. He doesn’t remember much of his early years. They were a fog of poverty, hunger and pain. The economic decimation of Eastern Europe over two hundred years ago had continued to spark small scale conflicts resulting in frequent loss of life. When he was around 10, some tourist from the United States become enchanted with him and couldn’t imagine leaving him behind. This was no accident.

He was adopted and they changed his name to Jack Wexford. It took him a surprisingly short period of time to catch up on the education he had missed. It turned out that Jack was not just a brilliant liar, he was also a remarkably bright and articulate boy. He received the very best in education that money had to offer and he consumed all of it. He studied voraciously. He knew poverty and he knew what it was to go hungry. He would never allow himself to experience either again.

Jack has a knack for seeming unperturbed and even cavalier as he assesses every element of a situation. He has no shame in bedding someone before orchestrating their permanent termination. Information is safety. Information is protection. People were unreliable and embarrassingly stupid.

Jack had no intention of getting attached to anyone, ever, until his adoptive brother passed away and he became the legal guardian of his daughter. He always liked his brother, who had been unfailingly kind to him. Holding that baby was the first time Jack felt a degree of affection and warmth.

Alas, Jack’s fears bore fruit when the Head of the borderline defunct International Exo-Science Agency contacted him to advise he had been selected to join the Crew of the Jabberwock. Jack declined. They advised him that his refusal was not accepted. They removed his niece from his custody and made it abundantly clear - come back with the specimens we require or you’ll never see her again.

Jack resented every second of this trip. However, you would never know it. Jack flatters, challenges and charms. People delight to make his acquaintance. Many people count Jack as one of their closest friends, unaware that Jack could care less if they lived or died. Jack is neither a dissident, nor a true believer in the great cause to restore Earth. Jack is a pissed off uncle who wants his niece back in his care and to him, that is the only thing that matters.

Biography:

Finn Ruttle arrived at the Northern birthing facility in the United Kingdom thirty two years ago. He had never met his father but then very few children in the birthing facilities did. Their fathers never knew if any of their samples were viable or if they were used at all. His mother successfully conceived one time, with him, and then never again. As a consequence, she disappeared two days after his fifth birthday. He was never made aware of her fate but he had an educated guess. Finn had one person in his life - his Nan. He wasn’t entirely certain as to whether they were biologically related and had never bothered to find out. After all, this fact changed nothing. She loved him and he loved her in return. In this, he was more fortunate than most people he knew.

Finn has an affinity for machines. He certainly trusts them more than he does people. He tested poorly so his rank was low - just a crewman in the Engineering Department. It was enough. Enough to get him on the Jabberwock. This trip is all he ever wanted. While others had the fate of extended family on their hands and on their conscience, he and his Nan had agreed - he was not to return. Consequences be damned. Earth was hell. Anything was better.

Arriving on Silverwaters had been like arriving at an oasis after trudging through an endless desert for his entire life, surviving on meagre rations and polluted water. He was good at keeping his thoughts to himself but even he couldn’t contain his tears of joy when he stood in the cold, clear water on the coast and let the waves dance over his legs. He didn’t believe in God or Heaven until now. Anything seemed possible on Silverwaters.

The longer he stays on Silverwaters, the more he is convinced it is the place for him. He can work hard and asks for little. His dreams are simple things. There is this strange bubbling sense of something more. The urge to follow orders is growing stronger and he found himself avoiding his superior officers due to the intensity of the feeling. Always an insular man, his desire to be touched had also grown. Someone brushed his arm two days ago and he can still feel the tingling in his skin. He isn’t sure what is going on with him and he is terrified to report himself to Medical. If they quarantined him to the ship, he’d never get his chance.

Finn plans to buy time and get to know as much about this world as he can. Then he plans to disappear prior to the launch. He’ll have to time it just right - too long and they will have the opportunity to find him.  Too short and he won’t get far enough away.

He was home. For the first time in his life he is certain about something more than his Nan. He wasn’t giving it up without a fight.
