"Wacky Waffles" The initial objects began in my mind at a pretty insane point. A waffle maker, plugged into an apple on top of it. From there, I wanted to create a work that was built around the story of a machine that created something impossible, almost in a Willy Wonka or Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs fashion. The waffle is placed at the top, with it combining into the apple to create an amalgamation of the two in the bottom right. An apple waffle, of sorts. The background is a close up photo of the pattern on my couch, which was the initial setting of the objects before I individually cut them out to move them freely. The waffle maker itself is de-saturated, however the apple was individually saturated to make it stand out. I used the brush tool to create the colorful lines symbolizing the foods "auras" of sorts moving along the machine, beginning at the top with the blank, white line and ultimately combining into the final orange and red line. The apple in the middle fades away with the clone-stamp tool as its drained of its aura and put into the apple waffle at the bottom. The text on the left and right highlights the wackiness of what I believe to be a typical reaction to the piece. The unlikely combination of these two foods to create a very fantastical result only thought of in dreams or zany realities was the goal of the project for me. It might make very little sense practically, but the ridiculous nature of it epitomizes my initial goal when assembling the objects.

"Modern Memoir" For my digital art curation, I chose to combine the works of the past and present into a very familiar, yet foreign space. This is why I chose to name the work "Modern Memoir", for its amalgamation of the art of now and the art of then. To truly highlight how far we have come in the art world, we must continue to look back on the efforts of those that came before so we can blaze our own trail. The environment is that of a typical apartment in Japan, complete with a rather pristine view of Tokyo outside. However, on the walls of the apartment are various pieces from Japan's Edo Period dating over 400 years ago. Various historical styles such as the hanging scroll and folding screen, all done with ink and color on paper, line the walls of the apartment in various positions that resemble their original length and width. What they surround is a piece from modern Japanese artist Takashi Murakami who is known for his signature style of zany expressions and colorful splashes. The work I chose closely resembles the paper artworks that surround it, with the recognizable matted texture of the Edo Period works around it. Murakami's work sits in the only piece of modern technology in the room, the TV. While the context of its placement position suggests separation from the rest of the works, its seamless combination with the historical works highlights how despite how far ahead in time it was created, the belonging remains the same. Moreover, the historical works being placed on the walls may suggest how they could've been standing for as long as the walls have. Just as the works may have existed in places that stood for a long time, so does potentially the apartment walls they sit on here. The warm glow of the single lightbulb on the ceiling brightens the works to suggest comfort and familiarity, bridging the gap of time to bring together all the various artists under one roof. Just like the Edo Period was described for its overall peaceful vibe, I naturally strove to curate a work that evoked similar emotions.
