yall will respect disabled people until theyre the "funny" disabilities and it pisses me off.
i am a little person. i am 4'0, i have ccd and achondroplasia. i have various other genetic conditions that affect me but i will be mentioning my identity as a little person mostly.
quit using little people as the butt of your jokes. no, you cant use the m slur it is a slur, no you cant call us gnomes or elves or dwarves or whatever the fuck you call us. we are real people, we arent little characters or creatures. we are LIVING BREATHING PEOPLE. quit treating us like kids or idiots. you dont have to baby us. quit making fun of little people's heights, ESPECIALLY PEOPLE WITH DISPROPORTIONATE DWARFISM. you are fucking ableist if you make fun of little people, you dont see us as people you see us a joke. im sick and tired of people i love and care for treating me as if im a joke and making fun of my height. fuck off
i dont care if we "look funny" or "haha tiny" its so fucking annoying and disrespectful to be treated as if the body isnt a living, breathing, full grown adult.
be better.

ayo this pretty cool
Tumblr media
[id: active style manual wheelchair with frame made of rectangle wood planks screwed together. end id]
as we know active type wheelchair very expensive, & repair need buy from specific medical manufacturer n take very long time. someone (who wheelchair user themself of near 40 years) made open source active manual wheelchair where most (if not all?) material from commercial easy get materials! wood, plastic, pvc pipe, & those commercial aluminum square pipe things. n they put guide made them yourself in link for anyone want try make
this video from their instagram show their wood frame wheelchair actually pretty durable, include clip from everyday use & even drop wheelchair all over place (basically imagine what airline do to them…) - n wheelchair stay in tact! n even if some part break - it easy change because wood planks all screwed together so you just buy wood plank & unscrew & rescrew.
not great for people w advanced seating positioning needs probably (think if only problem is easy butt pressure sore, maybe can still use this + supportive cushion but think beyond that it get hard). but if like you don’t need those things then maybe fun project?
have not use for self so can’t actually talk about experience but it look pretty cool

Normalize using the mobility aids that make you comfortable
Yes, even if they're not the ones you "should" be using.
When I finally get a mobility aid, I'm getting a cane. Yeah, my chronic pain is in both legs. Does that mean I should technically be using crutches/a rollator. Yeah probably. But you know what? Idgaf. For multiple reasons (including that my pain usually is on one side!! and the pain causes stability issues, which would make a cane the best choice, technically!! but who even cares right) I'm getting a cane and it's not really anybody's business to decide which mobility aid I get to use. I've seen a few posts on here from disabled people saying which mobility aids you "should" use or would be "the best" to use depending on which type of pain/disability they have. And I know these are well meaning and in attempts to prevent any pain using the "wrong" mobility aid will cause. But people have bodily autonomy and get to decide what's best for themselves.
That goes the other way, too.
If you want a mobility aid that you don't "need", who cares. Get it. If you only have pain on one side but still want crutches or a rollator, get one. If you can still walk with one of the aforementioned aids and want a wheelchair? Go the fuck ahead. Get one. And if you're afraid that you're taking away resources from people that "actually" need them? Remember: you know your own body better than anyone and what you do with it is up to you. No one, not even other disabled people, get to decide what it is you "need" or "should" have. If you can afford/have access to the mobility aid you want and aren't literally taking it away from someone? Get it. Get it and fucking flaunt that thing.

being disabled will really have you thinking/saying things like “yeah i’m not really THAT disabled. as long as i take my meds twice a day (and as needed), eat and drink exactly the right things, keep the perfect balance of being active and resting, the weather is stable, and nothing unexpected happens AT ALL… i’m totally FINE! i probably should not even call myself disabled at this point because i’m doing so well!”
if you don’t want to call yourself disabled, that’s fine and it is your choice! but if you’re only “fine” or “doing really well” when a bunch of different variables are all lined up perfectly, then maybe you are not fine actually. just a thought!

Ive seen posts about how disabled people should be able to have hobbies and how we should be able to do things that we like if we enjoy it and if it doesnt hurt us, and yeah I totally agree, but like unpopular opinion ig, let disabled people do things they enjoy even if it hurts them.
I, as a chronically ill person, have things I enjoy doing that arent that good for my pain levels. For example, I enjoy going on walks, just for like an hour or so around my town and in the forest. I will most likely have a flare up the day after/for a couple days after and my legs will be aching most of the way through walking but I love it, not the pain but the walking and seeing places (specifically the woods, i love the woods so much omdddd). Another example is video games, which may sound like an odd thing to flare from for some, but with fast paced video games on console or pc, my fingers get very stiff and achey from moving around so much so quickly, and it tires me to have to even use my eyes sometimes but I really like playing them.
Obviously there are way more examples that I've missed but the point still gets across. Let disabled people have hobbies, even ones that may mess up their pain levels, or make them extremely fatigued etc.

Is it “lazy” or is it making something accessible for a disabled person?
Is it “lazy” or is it none of your business?

Reminder that people with invisible disabilities aren't the only ones who get ignored and accused of lying by doctors. People with visible and severe, even deadly disabilities aren't automatically believed. Some severely and visibly disabled people die because doctors won't believe that they're really sick, accuse them of faking or exaggerating and deny them treatment. This kind of treatment isn't unique to any one kind of disability, it's something that most or perhaps even all of us have faced at one point or another.

be normal about people who wear diapers. be normal about people who need colostomy/catheter bags. be normal about people who need to wear pads or pad their mattress. be normal about incontinence. it’s not funny or weird or gross, it can happen to anyone of any age, and it’s frankly embarrassing that some of y’all can’t be normal about the aspects of disability that ick you out

watching people complain about the transmisogynistic culture on this website and try to pin it on “terminally online transgender men” instead of cisgender people who would love for all of us to get banned from the site forever and maybe fucking die about it is so fucking insane
Like do you genuinely think we’re not all on the same side here??? What the fuck are you talking about!!!!! Explain it!!!!!!

able-bodied people will claim to be disability activists and then they'll get pissed at you if you don't have the physical energy to respond 'timely'. or if you sleep a lot due to exhaustion. or if you can't get out much (or at all!) for an array of reasons. or if your hygiene isn't up to their standards because you can't wash yourself. or if you have 'inconvenient' allergies or dietary restrictions that they don't want to cater to. or if you're unemployed. or if you have a medical emergency that gets in the way of their plans (especially if you have to cancel last minute). or if you can't do any other 'normal' thing that is more difficult/impossible thanks to an array of disabilities because, get this, they are disabling. fuck that. disabled people don't owe the world an illusion of good health for the sake of the able-bodied. love disabled people without condition.

“people will say [x] about [y] condition, but they would never say that about a person who—” stop. listen. before u continue. do not underestimate what (some) people are willing to say, especially if you don’t have whatever condition/disability you’re about to name-drop. my cousin once accused me of “choosing” to develop a walnut allergy
