yall cant see criticism about him or something he's doing without thinking people are hating on him.

what people are saying is that the jokes have made them uncomfortable. and have made them stop enjoying the content, and feeling safe watching it. some have mentioned watching other povs (foolish, pac, fit) because of the exposition to the jokes. saying "just dont watch if you dont like" is kinda hard when it's a live improv medium in which he could show up at any moment without warning, and when he does show up he might make a joke or he might not.

no one is insulting him. no one is saying he's being actually homophobic.

but the jokes he is doing are not on a vacum, and those jokes are not only contained to people who are ok with it.

yes they dont hurt the irl targets of them (who are straight men), but they 100% can and clearly HAVE hurt or made uncomfortable other queer people in the audience.

and you all immediately framing it as "it's people who have never interacted with queer people irl" is so dismisive that it shows you clearly dont care about how other MIGHT be hurt by it

do people realize you can dislike the jokes someone is making, and find them inappropriate, and want them to stop, and still not frame a gay man as "disgusting" and "disturbing" for messing with straight men doing gay rp in minecraft. like, that's actually just a bad thing to do!

yes, there is a very real tension in the jokes tubbo makes and in the words and rhetoric he mocks. (and yes it is clearly jokes)

but that's exactly why the fact he is gay matters. it matters very much. tubbo is gay. homophobia is going to affect him his entire life. 

fact is, fit and pac can do their little gay rp (and they do a good meaningful job! i love fitpac) and get given money and attention and accolades for it and then walk away from the computer and go about their lives completely unaffected.

the same is literally not true for tubbo (whose sexuality has been under intense public scrutiny since he was a child). he does not get to walk away from it. he will never get to walk away from it.

fit and pac, even if they do a sincere job at it, are very much playing at a gay relationship (and profitting!) in a fake world where nothing about it is ever going to seriously affect them (not even qtubbo's "homophobia"). this is completely juxtaposed to the real world, where tubbo lives, where homophobia very much has a real impact on queer people

it's that tension that tubbo is trying to eat at with his jokes. it's that tension that he finds funny. it's that tension that he enjoys making the straight creators aware of. that's the basis of it and it's completely rooted in him being a gay man.

don't get me wrong, it is an EDGY form of humour. it's meant to be jarring and uncomfortable and it's not the most appropriate for the wider qsmp audience. he doesn't always succeed with the tone or format. and i totally understand people who don't like it and are uncomfortable with it who want to ask him to stop. i really do

dislike it. dislike him for it. ask for it to be stopped as much as you want. but painting it as tubbo randomly making "disgusting" and "disturbing" light of a real world issue is simply not accurate. removing the very real context as to why he can make these jokes and why he makes these specific types of jokes is not fair. you can do better with your criticism!

all the people mad at tubbo’s jokes aren’t tubblings, so they don’t understand the extreme amount of homophobia he’s faced throughout his streaming career. they take a recent clip of him saying he hasn’t experienced homophobia in his home town and take it to mean he’s never experienced homophobia ever. when there’s large groups of people on the internet who dedicate entire accounts to doxxing, stalking, outing, and harassing him and all of his previous partners just because he’s an out gay man on the internet. he’s told stories about how the first time he went to america he had people shout slurs at him and his ex, how him and tommy nearly got hatecrimed in brighton in 2021 because they were being slightly affectionate towards each other, how he’s been victim blamed and further harassed for expressing frustration over the homophobia he’s experienced. with everything he’s had to deal with since he was sixteen years old he should be allowed to call fitmc a faggot as much as he wants like that’s literally nothing compared to the years of violent homophobia he’s had to live through.

its crazy how they’ll get mad at tubbo (the only gay man on the server) for making homophobic jokes but not the 4-5 cishet men who make the exact same jokes 😭 like i don’t think it’s a big deal either way but you’d think they’d be way more upset at fit and foolish for joking about being homophobic and threatening to say slurs than the irl queer person who’s had to deal with actual homophobia before.

I was thinking about how Tubbo keeps his rose in his backpack versus how he always kept his funeral flower in his offhand. I wasn't sure why he wouldn't want to keep the flower that Fred gave him in his offhand because surely that one would mean more, right?

I actually think it's a symbol of Tubbo's depression and how he hides it. When he had the funeral flower in his hand, he was sad and didn't really try to hide it. He didn't shower, he was incredibly reckless, and purposefully hurt himself multiple times. That flower was out where others could see, much like his emotions and mental state at the time.

The rose is different. The rose is hidden away and kept safe. Tubbo is seemingly better, he's "showered", started being more mindful of his actions/surroundings, and isn't purposefully hurting himself. But he's still hurting and in a poor mental state that many of the eggs have called him out for. He is still experiencing depression but it's well hidden.

Tubbo kept the funeral flower out because he felt like he had a reason to display his mental state. he figured that if anyone asked and saw how badly he was doing, he had a reason to feel the way he did.

On the other hand, Tubbo doesn't really have a reason to keep feeling like he does after Fred returns. Fred isn't dead, so what is there to be upset about? He hides the rose. He doesn't want people to ask because he doesn't have a reason (in his mind) to still feel the way he does.

Both flowers directly represent how he handles and shows his mental health to others on the island. The funeral flower was out for everyone to see and the rose is only known to exist by a select few people.

Morning Crew cuddle piles, Pac needs to hold something to fall asleep and because Tubbo loves to slide into the middle after Fit and Pac head to bed, it ends up being Tubbo a lot. It’s actually a great combo because Pac tosses and turns all night… he purposefully sleeps slightly farther away when he lays down and scooches himself back over when he can’t sleep… But Tubbo sleeps like a rock, he can be thrown off the bed and still stay sleeping without issue. So throughout the night Fit will just wake up to Pac swing Tubbo around as he shakes and turns; Fit never really knows what he’s supposed to do in those situations so he just holds Pac till he calms down…
