Also can I just say how I love the effect the guns had on episode six. Sure, there were cartoony fun moments and silly fancy shots, but like.
It also went from cartoon violence to genuine, visceral, tense bloodshed when Jax repeatedly shot Ragatha in the narrow hallway. She was dead but he kept *going*, not because it was funny and it wasn't framed as funny. She's not actually dead or hurt but the tension was real, the anger in his face was. The unease was real.
It gave the violence so much more weight than the usual acts of getting deep-fried or stretched across two moving vehicles, even though the initial impression was 'oh, that's so silly, they're getting guns' because other series would have this as their episode to freely get edgy and silly because of the contrast between cartoon characters and this very real, fatal weapon is a very popular trope.
It started out like that, fun and games and cool poses, but much like playing with a loaded gun, *looks over at the Jax and Pomni argument* the stakes got real real quick when, y'know, it accidentally went off. When Pomni unintentionally triggered Jax's deepest issues.

Honestly feel like so much of it is resentment based on how he described Ragatha's 'archetype'. She's the 'cheerful' one. Which is in part, probably what made him so uncomfortable woth learning about her issues with her mom, as other people have pointed out.
Jax has a very skewed mental image of who Ragatha is and how things affect her. She forces on a bright smile and a good attitude for everyone during pretty much anything. He doesn't see her as completely unbothered, but, probably in his own internal suffering, feels some kind of jealousy towards how she seems to brush things off when, if he allowed himself to be honest and open, he's barely coping by the threads of his overalls. It could very well be that he sees Ragatha's durability and wishes it was his own, wishes and wonders why he can't have that.
This is also something that goes back to how Gangle and Jax have admitted to not being able to tell how sincere Ragatha is actually being because of her forced cheer and over-frequent attempts to help or encourage others.
It's also probably because they exist on opposing ends of personal philosophies. Ragatha functions and copes by being useful and liked, where Jax needs to annoy people, to play an antagonistic role towards others to feel better about himself. Ragatha naturally tends to undo what Jax accomplishes and vice versa. We also know he wants connection and denies it to himself, where Ragatha can freely throw herself into trying to bond with others, because, well, she desperately needs external validation.
In short, everything about Ragatha I think is just wired to piss Jax off in every way possible.
genuine question shipping aside and everything, why tf does Jax hate Ragatha so much like... he's not normal

It honestly super exhausts me people are acting like Jax is a poor wubby baby just because he hates himself. You know who also hates herself, just as much as Jax? Ragatha. You know who's still a good person, who tries to make everyone around her safe and happy? Ragatha.
Seriously, Jax is a fascinating and well-writen character and if you love him *as* that fucked up bastard, thats grand. But everyone acting like he's secretly a good caring person, no. He's an asshole who hurts others to feel more in control. That's a bad person, regardless of why he does it. Baffling to me that so many of you are so eager to see the pain behind someone who hurts everyone because he chooses to, yet so fast to call a woman burning herself alive to keep others warm manipulative. I will never understand it.
#thank you op#seriously ragatha has done nothing wrong#and terrible people hate themselves all the time#it's using that as an excuse that makes them terrible#you know those customers in retail that make your shift hell?#the bosses that force you to stay over and say mean crap to you?#abuse does not stem from being a content and confident#thriving human being#it comes from needing to literally belittle or harm others to fill a void#jax is stuck in a literal digital purgatory with no escape in a body that isn't his#forced to play along with whatever caine wants and live with people he doesn't get along with / originally even know#he's abusive and that does not and has not ever existed in a vacuum#he has no control of his own life so he seizes control over others#i do want to see him get help and get better#but he's awful and he sucks and he's not entitled to forgiveness#pookie doesn't need someone to fix him with ' the power of love'#he needs a door slammed in his face#he doesn't have to be a pure evil caricature of torment to be abusive#he just has to justify harmful behaviors to himself and continuously cause that harm

Thinking a lot about recent posts and the egg metaphor / Jax's weird coping behaviors...
Has he ever tormented Kinger? Like I have bad memory at times, but I don't think he has in part because, Kinger is like, the least likely to react how Jax wants him to, if at all. Jax seems vastly to primarily target Ragatha, then Gangle, with Zooble being equal opportunity, and Pomni being kind of this rare exception to the worst of it because Jax is still figuring her out.
And Kinger being, well, Kinger is reason enough to not really mess with him from Jax's goals and perspective but, you can also find it *very* interesting that the people Jax primarily targets are women or openly nonconforming.
Just. Thinking thoughts over here.
#yes this is me thinking about trans jax#because also think about how personal Jax gets with sone of his insults#like some other people have pointed out him 'clocking' / getting on Zooble for being a tattoo artist and a bartender#why do you know that sir#why do you know it if you're not one of those idiots who always mocked queer people to not get clocked#as queer yourself?#obnoxious man in denial behavior#also just how socially it tends to be more acceptable for guys to pick on girls because#'that means they like you' hate that#but like#do you see what I'm saying#internalized transphobia manifesting as some misogyny issues#is not something i would put past knock-off Trix Rabbit#i also think this could be a great reason as to why he likes to see Gangle sad#not just irritated or upset but sad#because he sees someone who is openly weird and herself in every dorky way#and because he is afraid of sincerity he wants to see her fail#because his happiness is victory#it is a confirmation and validation of his horrible life philosophy if he's happy faking it#and gangle is miserable doing what he can't and refuses to#tadc jax#tadc#trans jax

Surprised to see not that many people talking about a lot of Jax's anger coming from a loss of bodily autonomy?
That struck me as a huge thing from this episode. From first the vegan joke to how he gets noticeably distressed from it at the bar, to realizing his tail is gone, even the maid outfit section, Jax clearly doesn't like being controlled. He tends to roll with the punches during adventures, or finds ways to have fun otherwise, but when its his own body being changed against his will, thats when he gets actually upset beyond the point of masking it with being an ass

Not to mention, like.
Jax himself didn't even care about getting yelled at. Which Zooble does all the time he starts on them. Yelling is literally the reaction Jax *goes* for. Even on the end of trying to get upset that Ragatha had a *completely valid reaction to Jax's constant mistreatment of her and everyone else*, Jax himself does not care. It wasn't the yelling that hurt him, so why is it even a bad thing in the first place that she went off?
The most effective thing to Jax that episode was bringing up Ribbit, which Ragatha *unintentionally* did, and *apologized* for. Not once did she do anything on any sort of level that Jax has, or gone out of her way to provoke, harm, or distress him.
If people wanted to paint Ragatha as manipulative or evil or whatever, it would make more sense to go on a crazy theory rant about how different her actions are if you assume she's playing at them being unintentional—which could actually be half enjoyable to read from a sincere theorist perspective—but we are pretty explicitly shown that Ragatha isn't like that. The yelling for *two seconds* is the *weakest* possible brick to throw at that wall.
I stand by the fact that Ragatha did nothing wrong and she didn't even have a full crash out. It was two seconds of her allowing herself to express anger the way Zooble does, nothing more. Big step for Ragatha by comparison to her holding everything in, but! Not a full-blown anything to write home about! So weird that so many people turned on her for no reason.
I hope Ragatha gets to crash out even more, it’s so crazy seeing people villainise the shit out of her for yelling at Jax ONCE when the dude threw her in a DEEP FRYER
#tadc#the amazing digital circus#i love both of these characters but people gotta be fr#do you love the characters we're being given#or the idea of a silly little guy that can do no wrong#i like jax BECAUSE he sucks

It's so so so fascinating to me that Ribbit haunts the narrative for both the audience and for everyone in the circus except for Pomni.
Jax views his entire dynamic with her through the lense of his dead friend and she doesn't even know Ribbit's name.

To all the Tumblr users who tend to use tags very liberally:
Let’s play a game.
Type the following words into your tags box, then post the first automatic tag that comes up.
you, also, what, when, why, how, look, because, never
