Little dark eyes blinked innocently up at the Uchiha. Most little ones might of run away at the sight of the intimidating man, but Yuri wasn’t your average toddler. The tiny tot tilted her head, like she was studying him. He… kinda looked like he papa. And uncie Sasu. Little hands rose, making a grabbing motion. Asking the cloaked man to pick her up . “Up…uppy!”
。° 。° 。° 。° 。° 。° 。         ALLOWING HIS EYES TO REVERT BACK INTO THEIR NORMAL BLACK, Itachi gazed down upon his niece, a warm smile betraying his true thoughts on the matter. The older Uchiha couldn't believe he had a niece of his own.          Though, admittedly, he knew it would have been Kyosuke that would continue the Uchiha bloodline. Sasuke, too wrapped up in his own ideas and feelings, and him, a rogue ninja on the run, only Kyosuke would have the opportunity to...settle down.         “Hello, Yuri,” he said softly, bending down at the waist to swiftly pick her up at her request. “I am happy I got to meet you, at last,” he whispered, throwing a grateful look at his younger brother for allowing him to see his daughter. He wouldn't miss this for the world. “My name is Itachi,” he continued, looking deeply into her Uchiha black eyes.         The eyes that hopefully wouldn't turn into sharingan red.         “I'm your uncle,” he answered her questioning look, closing his eyes as he let the tenderness of the situation seep into his bone-tired body.

I updated my rules document because I noticed it was unreadable on mobile. I opened it last night while scrolling and I went 'fuck' because it hurt my eyes. I apologise for the inconvenience. The rules are the same, I copy and pasted them in a much cleaner, readable doc, with no aesthetic whatsoever because I couldn't care less.

“Be honest… did you really want to spend the rest of your life with me? Or did you just put me under that genjustu because you wanted to give me a what I wanted?”
HE AVOIDED CONFRONTATION WHEN HE COULD. A pacifist at heart, Itachi hated when he had to get into a fight which was the main reason he always relied on his genjutsu.
He should lie to Izumi, keep her away from him, keep her safe. But he could never lie to her; the one girl who absolutely mattered to him.
“It’s not easy most of the time coming up with a believable genjutsu,” Itachi started as an answer. He averted his eyes before continuing, “but the genjutsu you were subjected to was the easiest I’ve ever attempted. Because it wasn't just a genjutsu to me.”

ITACHI HAD TO GROUND HIMSELF. Repeatedly having the thought of ‘get her away from here’ going inside his head, he could only stare at her as she babbled something about birthdays and…such. Itachi had never thought he would be seeing his sister again. He kept tabs on her, knowing that she had gone to a small village, Hanano, when she rose to higher ranks fairly quickly, earning herself the title of ‘Red Eyes’.
Itachi was proud of her, like he was proud of his brothers. They would, one day, save the Uchiha name and become the heroes of Konoha. He wouldn’t probably be alive to see such a day, but he wouldn’t mind dying if he knew they were safe. They had to be safe. It was one of Itachi’s self-imposed missions.
His eyes turned to the cloak he was wearing, and like getting whiplash, Itachi’s musings came to a halt as he stepped back from her, activating the sharingan in an instant. “Itsuki, you’re not safe,” he whispered, ears attentive to their surroundings. “I have many people who want my head. Leave now.”
He knew it would be futile. Itsuki was headstrong and fiery. She wouldn’t back down from a challenge, even if the challenge was her brother himself.
“If you are looking for Sasuke, search for Orochimaru.” He wouldn’t say more than that. The path Sasuke had taken was his alone, even if Itachi disagreed with it. Sasuke wouldn’t grow if he meddled with every aspect of his life.
Itsuki breathed in deeply, eyes closed, breathing in her brothers scent. She flinched as she was given the light push, not wanting to let go. But Itachi was never that great with affectionate. She had always been the clingy one, jumping on him from behind and trapping him in her arms to surprise him when they were younger. Reluctantly, she pulled back, wiping her tears away as best she could. “Yeah!” She let out a small, shaky laugh, looking up at him, only to avert her gaze as she did he best to compose herself. “That’s what happens when you grow up… when you hit 21. Uh… happy really late birthday.” God, her emotions were a mess. What was she supposed to feel? All she felt was rage when she first saw him, but now she was trying to stop crying. What a mess, she was… Exhaling softly, she did her best to meet his eyes. “You… look the same.” She said, looking him over. “I mean… you got taller, and the cloak is new, but… yeah.” Itsuki bit at her lip, fingers twitching at her side. An awkward silence fell between them for a moment. What was she even supposed to say? I missed you, but why the hell did you butcher our family? “…Have you seen… Sasuke?” Her voice was soft and quiet, a stark difference from the steadiness and confidence she usually spoke with. Obsidian eyes stared at Itachi warily, but hopefully. He was her younger brothers target, maybe he had caught sight of him somewhere.

HIS SWEET LITTLE BROTHER THOUGHT HIM A COWARD. But truth be told, Itachi preferred to be called a coward rather than anything else. And he would rather have Kyosuke’s hatred for him if it was for the sake of his own safety.
But the hurt in Kyosuke’s eyes almost ate away at Itachi’s resolve. The older could handle anger, could handle a fight, could handle his brother screaming insults at him. But the idea of having hurt his brother tormented Itachi. But wasn’t that exactly what he did, for both of his brothers?
The anger was welcomed, Itachi almost sighed in relief. Let his brother shout, let his brother punch him, but don’t let him cry. Fueling that anger, Itachi replied coolly, “Even if I told you, Kyosuke, you wouldn’t understand. The answer you seek isn’t the answer you want.”
You’re still a child. Itachi wanted to say, but his words caught in his throat. His brothers weren’t young anymore, and could anyone actually be called a child in this godforsaken time? A child that had to grow up without parents? A child that had to be hated by the village for his clan’s kekkei genkai?
But in Itachi’s eyes, he could always see Sasuke and Kyosuke, side by side, and baby bundles as they were welcomed into the world. His little brothers who he would do anything for.“If you’re here to fight me, then do.” Itachi’s sharingan flared to life. “But you’re not ready, yet.”
“Go back to the village, Kyosuke.”
The cold words brought the young Uchiha back to reality. Hurt eyes stared back into Itachi’s before they morphed into anger and determination. He came all this way to find him. He spend days on end, looking for information on missing nin, following leads, even having to fight people for it at a few points. He wasn’t a scared little boy anymore. He was a ninja. And he had worked hard for this day to come. He wasn’t backing out now. “No.” The teen replied sharply, hands tightening into fists at his sides as he glared at his older brother. “I’m not leaving until you stop being a coward and running away.” It was almost shocking to hear such words escape his lips. Kyosuke may still have had a kind heart, but he had toughened up. “Why, Itachi?” The volume in his voice raised slightly. “Why did you do it?”

VERSE DROP FOR UCHIHA ITACHI
Tumblr media
"DECEIT IN HIS SMILE; BLOOD ON HIS HANDS"
Canon-compliant. Main verse.
"TREACHERY IS A RAGING INFERNO"
The Uchiha massacre never happens, or it happens but not by Itachi's hands. (This will be marked with #;massacre in the verse tag). When ordered to kill the clan, Itachi refused to kill his family and friends even if he saw the wrongs of their actions. With the threat of a coup d'etat by the Uchiha, and with Itachi on their side, Itachi was targeted by Danzō.
Understanding that he no longer has a home in Konoha, Itachi leaves and is now a missing-nin.
non-massacre verse: Itachi is said to leave Konoha because of nefarious actions that were never stated. When someone asks what they were, it is only said that Itachi agreed to the coup d'etat and even wanted to lead it with his father.
massacre verse: Itachi is accused of the Uchiha clan massacre and is said to leave Konoha because of his actions.
"TO BE STRONG IS TO FORGIVE"
This is a verse that I had to do some mental gymnastics until I got it to finally work a bit. (and I don't even know why I put so much time into this).
Shisui is one of those summoned by Kabuto's Edo Tensei. Kabuto modified Shisui's body and gave him eyes to work with because Shisui was brought back without eyes/blind.
After getting out of Kabuto's control by using Shisui's eye that he had stored in his crow, Itachi sought out Shisui and gave him back his eye. Both out of Kabuto's control, they went back to him and, with Shisui's Kotoamatsukami, Kabuto turned good.
Kabuto sent back everyone to the Pure World except for Itachi who chose to stay until he could rekindle his relationship with Sasuke.
"LET JUSTICE PREVAIL"
Modern verse.
Orphaned at a young age, Itachi grew up having only Sasuke to love. His uncle took care of them until Itachi turned 18 and moved out, taking Sasuke with him. With a career as a world-renowned lawyer, Itachi had enough income and more to give Sasuke a comfortable life until he graduates and finds his own path.

ITACHI RAISED HIS HAND, swiftly flicking the blond’s forehead with his forefinger. “You talk too much,” he muttered with a sigh accompanying his words. He had no wish to actually fight the blond but he did promise he wouldn’t use his dōjutsu.
The whole idea was to actually make the blond get this—whatever this was—out of his system so he could talk to Itachi without always thinking about taking revenge. And why did Deidara exactly hate him that much, he didn’t understand? It wasn’t as if the Akatsuki prevented him from pursing art, however disastrous his art was.
Itachi backed away a couple of steps, eyeing the area around them. “Let’s go outside. The others won’t like it if we sparred in here.” And not to mention the mess they would leave behind…Itachi hated messes and would stop in the middle of the fight to clean around. Not that he was a clean freak but messes tended to give him flashbacks he would rather not have.
        …Rubble and disarray.
He shook his head as if physically removing the thoughts, then eyed Deidara once more. “Leave the bags here,” he ordered with a little distrust in his voice, gesturing at the clay bags Deidara had on him almost always. However, if the blond refused to comply, it could lead to a decided advantage if, during the fight, he forgot their deal and used the clay. It would be his turn to use the sharingan then.
"Got a lot bolder now, hm? I can't wait to rip that stupid smile off your face while you're under my foot!"
[ Itachi's jabs got the blonde hyped rather than the usual anger burst; FINALLY, the perfect opportunity to show him his hands weren't just to create sublime art--- years marinating in his own anger and brewing gruesome thoughts about the Uchiha would finally pay off.
Truly a shame he wouldn't be allowed to use his creations-- the reward of giving the other what he rightfully deserves would make it all worth it. Deidara will make Itachi bruise. Itachi will feel pain with his own fists-- and he will savor every second of it.
He laughs at the thought before taking a step towards Itachi, his face mere inches from the other. ]

@twinuchiha | Itsuki:
A hard slap. “I hate you. I hate you I hate you I hate you-“ Tears burned her eyes and fell down Itsuki’s cheeks as she trembled. “I hate you. I-“ She pulled Itachi to her and wrapped her arms tightly around him, clinging to his cloak as she buried her face into his shoulder. All the pain. All the anger. And yet she still missed her twin horribly. “You idiot…”
WITH HIS SHARINGAN ON, Itachi could see Itsuki’s hand rising to his cheek before—
       SLAP.
He could feel the blood travelling rapidly to his face as his cheek reddened and heated up. He could have stopped her hand before it made contact, but he had a quick flashback of his fight with her, and how wounded she had got before he had ordered her to leave.
And now, many years later, she was right here, in front of him. Very much alive and well.
His confusion was only present for a few seconds before it turned into full-blown surprise when her arms wrapped around him in a hug, clutching the Akatsuki cloak with her fingers as if he would vanish into thin air.
“Itsuki—” Itachi whispered, tentatively raising one arm and patting her on the back in an awkward hug. Inseparable in their youths but couldn’t be farther apart when they grew up; such was the sad dynamic of their relationship.
“You…you’ve changed.” He could only utter that as he quickly concealed his surprise, slightly pushing her backward in a hint that she should let him go. There was no telling whether any of the Akatsuki were currently spying him or not. And despite his notorious actions, Itachi would hate if Itsuki was to be harmed because of him.

@lxspedeza | Ino:
"Itachi-san, do you ever think about what happens to a person's mind after being in your genjutsu? Even if the person was to survive, could it leave permanent damage? I uh... I often think about it because of the type of ninjutsu my family uses, you know...."
ITACHI REGARDED HER WITH A CURIOUS GAZE. Never had anyone asked him this question, and never had he really thought about it until now. A quick thought about her intelligence came to mind; she would have been a great teammate to have.
“I won’t lie and tell you that I’ve thought about it before, Yamanaka-san,” he started, rubbing his chin in thought as his eyes left her to gaze at a spot far away. “A genjutsu shouldn’t leave damage in the mind,” he answered, recalling his studies.
Itachi had spent all of his life perfecting the sharingan, the only one who truly could best him in a battle of genjutsu would have been Shisui…
Not allowing the thought to consume his mind, he looked back at Yamanaka. “While a person under genjutsu couldn’t discern what’s real and what’s not, once they are out of it, their mind should be intact. However, they do react physically, in reality.”
That was how he got Deidara to join the Akatsuki, and that was how he protected himself from Orochimaru’s attack. They believed his genjutsu and they acted in reality. Would that count as damage to the mind?
There was only one way to test that theory but Ino wouldn’t like it, and so, Itachi wouldn’t voice it out. Having her under genjutsu would prove to be the fastest way to get an answer.

continued | @lxspedeza
HE MOTIONED FOR HER TO SIT STILL. It wouldn’t do to have all his meticulous work be thrown in the sea by her moving around. Itachi wasn’t that skilled at medical ninjutsu so his work wasn’t the best there was, and surely moving around would completely loosen all the bandages he had taken so much time to wrap.
“Please, Yamanaka-san,” Itachi said, pushing lightly at her shoulder. “Lay down.” He then began the process of rewrapping whatever bandage came loose. “I’m not that medically skilled but the others aren’t present at the moment so you’re stuck with me.” He tried for a more lighthearted tone but he was unsure how it came across. Hopefully, he hadn’t scared her.
Not that there was any reason for her to be afraid of him. The truth was not many people knew of why he had left Konoha, some even believing that he had escaped the killing of his clan not that he…
His hand tightened around the bandage roll at the dark thought. After a fleeting second, he composed himself as if nothing happened, then discarded the indented roll on the makeshift bedstand with more force than necessary as another dark thought invaded his head.
Becoming a missing-nin was all part of his plan for Sasuke to become stronger, avenge the Uchiha clan, and become Konoha’s hero. But now that he knew that Sasuke apparently betrayed Konoha for power…Itachi’s lips pulled into a line as he tried to formulate a plan for his next move.
While focused on his thoughts about how to move next, Itachi walked to the other side of the room where a vegetable stew had been cooling. He had good bedside manners despite his adequate medical skills. “Eat, slowly. To get your strength back,” he told her when he was back at her side, carefully helping her up and sliding the bowl in her hand.
After a few moments in silence, Itachi decided to break it with, “Sasuke has always been hotheaded, doing what he set his mind to. If he decided to leave the village then there was no stopping him.” A small talk, perhaps, would help them break the awkward tension. “While I don’t know your reasons for leaving Konoha, I can understand. If you require any assistance just seek me out.”

@twinuchiha | Kyosuke:
“Tachi?” The young Uchiha’s voice trembled as he finally layed eyes on the man he hadn’t seen in years, the old nickname escaping him before he could stop himself. Here he stood, before the man that was responsible for so much trauma, so much pain, the one that caused so many nightmares. And yet a part of him still wanted to cry, run to him and hug him. He was almost near crying. Tears threaten to fall from Oxyen eyes as emotions flashed through Kyosuke’s eyes. Whatever words he was going to say caught in his throat. So he waited. Waited for the older Uchiha to say something, anything.
THE SOUND OF FOOTSTEPS CAUGHT HIS ATTENTION FIRST. Then the familiar—yet unexpected—chakra woke him up from his meditation like a splash of cold water. But his surprise really came when he heard the nickname he hadn’t heard for over six years. A memory he worked hard to squash down, for his own sanity if not anything else.
He turned around, meeting the tearful eyes of his young brother. His sharingan deactivated in an instant to not alarm his brother as he continued his inspection. “Kyosuke?”
Itachi had always kept tabs on his brothers, watching as they got stronger by time. Sasuke, as expected, became an admirable shinobi, though his latest actions did prove worrisome to him. Sasuke was moving to a dangerous path of evil, and Itachi hated to see his brother falling to the greed of power. But…it was understandable, Sasuke’s motivation, after all, burned with his need to take revenge on him.
But Kyosuke on the other hand…his sweet, kind brother…
It hurt Itachi that he had to do what he did. “Go back to the village, Kyosuke,” he ordered, mustering all the coldness he could toward the other. If it was Sasuke, it would have been relatively easier; the other would kill him on sight if he had the chance so Itachi knew he was pushing Sasuke towards a stronger path. But Kyosuke…
Itachi shook his head, hardening his gaze once more, though refusing to activate the sharingan again. He wasn’t hostile and had no intentions of attacking the other. Though, he needed him to hate him in order to become stronger, in order to defeat him, and be the hero of Konoha.

@shisui-uchiha-anon | Shisui:
It was not like him, not at all to question himself this much. Usually, his impulsive nature would determine the outcome. But the last outcome was decided by the others. The last thing Shisui remembers is the cold embrace of the river and the endless dark. After that, it was just nothing, a void. No pain no regret - not even selfishness for leaving the way he did. That lasted for five minutes, or at least that is how it looked to Shisui.
He gasped for air, his lungs struggling to breathe. The breath of life returned to him. What looked like five minutes is actually years. Soon Shisui found out the painful truth, or at least he thought he knew. One thing was certain ….
A loud crack of fire brought Shisui back from his own mind. He was no longer a child, he postponed this meeting for too long. He hides the signal of his own chakra so that Itachi cannot find it. That has to stop. Last time it was a tight getaway. But this time Shisui will allow himself to be found.
There approaching so fast, like a lightning, the familiar chakra signal, so familiar to Shisui's own. It trembles like the pulse of a bowstring - just a second before it crashed on Shisui like an arrow hitting a target.
How am I alive? Resurection? Or something else. Some people did believed in resurection. For those people death is inconsequential. It's not an ending, but a new beggining. Is this then a second chance? An reunion? The very idea of recurection was so seductive to Shisui. Before he rose from the dead did he spent a few years in hell? Is it that simple? Those who were dead live --and those who live believe, they shall never die?
"Took you long enough to get here?" Shisui said to the wild eyes that met his.
ITACHI HAD TO SEE IT WITH HIS OWN EYES TO BELIEVE IT. Shisui, alive and present? This had to be a dream, a cruel twist of fate. But a thirsty man wouldn’t say no to water however murky it was. And Itachi wouldn’t throw away this chance, no matter how futile it may prove itself to be.
How many years had Itachi mourned Shisui’s death? How many years had Itachi wished for just a moment to be reunited with the other? This had better not be a sick joke. Because after Itachi’s great hope of finally meeting the other, it would bring him such despair to find it was all a dream, trapped in a genjutsu, a cruel Tsukuyomi of his own.
His chakra sang out to him, calling him to finally meet him; no more hiding, no more postponing this reunion. Itachi would, after all these years, get to meet Shisui, to have him between his arms as they did when they were younger and without a worry in the world.
Jumping from tree to tree, running through the thick branches that littered the ground, cutting through the vines that got in his way, Itachi made it to the clearing, where he saw his old friend. Sitting by the fire, Shisui seemed to be expecting him. How could he not? When the moment Itachi felt the chakra reaching out to him, he dropped everything and ran to him.
“Shisui…?” he called out with a bit of hesitation. The memory of Shisui falling to the river kept playing in his mind, a persistent reminder that this Shisui might be a figment of his own tormented imagination. “Is that really you?”
Itachi stilled when the other turned around. “But how?”
