"crunchy suncat"

I just posted all of these guys to ArtFight so I will also share them here. I was going to keep them private until I had more plot details but... that's not happening :) Not because I abandoned them but because my fixation has shifted away for the moment.

The page I keep all their information on (in my OneNote of all places) is called "crunchy suncat" so that's what I'm labelling this post.

Note this is not all characters just the ones I uploaded to ArtFight (Art Fight - beankibble's Profile).

Suncat

they/them

Suncat's colony has a chronic shortage of kittens, so every time suneve arrives, there's always a risk that a kitten already up to a year old will become the new Suncat. This happens frequently enough that it's not an unusual occurence. This Suncat was already a year old when they became Suncat, and managed to live for another year and a half after that.

At first, Suncat was the golden child. Perfect, dutiful, praised. But they never wanted to be suncat. They don't want to die. They want to be a good host for Her, but struggle with interacting with other cats and giving blessings. It always feels awkward, and they know that they have no blessing to give.

Becoming Suncat broke all their relationships. Their guard doesn't talk to them about their feelings. They don't want to talk about their feelings anyway. They stopped eating at the end of their life. Probably. At least, they don't remember eating.

Guard

she/her

Wants to do her job well and have her mother (Senior Guard) be proud of her. Also wants to actually be Suncat's guard and help them find... something better. Still, to prevent her own grief when Suncat dies, she maintains her emotional distance. Controlled by her fear of her legacy.

Just as Suncat is their mother's golden child, Guard is Senior Guard's golden child. Perfect, dutiful, praised.

Very big and intimidating. Doesn't speak often, mostly because she doesn't know what to say, except to her sister.

Senior Guard

she/her

De facto leader of the colony due to her seniority, intimidating stature, and cunning. True personality is power-hungry, manipulative, unempathetic. Cataracts in right eye. Missing fourth claw on front right paw. The nasal bridge scar is mark of a guard. It is a tradition started by her.

Never failed her suncats. Cares for her legacy. Guard chose to become a guard, so she had better carry that legacy on.

Preaches Her blessings.

She has been alive many generations and has seen more suncats come and go than any of the other elders. To the younger cats, she is almost a mythical figure, and her power over the colony is very extensive.

Sister

she/her

Suncat's sister. Always wanted to be suncat, and now she doesn't have a chance.

Her life also got broken when Suncat became suncat. Hates her sister. The suncat. It's easier than hating herself.

Friend

Suncat's friend. Estranged from each other when Suncat becomes suncat.

A good cat, born into terrible circumstances.

Also here are my current ideas for worldbuilding, other than what Sysi has already put out:

Suncats can live to be anywhere from one to two years of age. Generally, the later on in life they become suncats, the longer they will live.

She still prefers younger suncats because they are easier to possess/influence.

New suncats are max one year old.

Family is a big part of every cat's life because litters are quite big (2-5 avg)

Cult population averages 60

Cult cat lifespan averages 5-7 years, excluding suncat and provided cat lives past first year
