"i thought i heard you say you were trying to take a picture of the view! and since that’s me, i figured i might as well stand real still to make it easier,” olive called back at him. she was clearly joking ━━ but that didn’t mean she didn’t actually think that highly of her outfit that day. getting the hint, olive backed out of the frame, looking up at the building he was shooting. “is this your earth assignment?”

          he’s laying on his stomach in the grass, taking pictures of the city from a lower view. back home, he’d loved drawing landscapes, buildings or decor. mostly, though, it was just inspiration for the places in his stories, and the camera captured them much better than his unsteady hand. “if you don’t want to be in the picture, i SUGGEST you move.” it wasn’t like it was AT ALL unclear that they were in his way.

“i was trying to tell you that you dropped this,” olive reminded, giving the program-issued wallet in her hand a little shake to get freya’s attention. in that moment, olive realized she should’ve just taken the money for herself. what could she say? she was raised by villains after all. 

     “i have to admit that i am at a loss for words for this place,” freya said in a tone tinged with sadness. “i saw this scary looking man at the train station, but i also saw him stop and admire some daisies that were just growing. that was sort of sweet.” she let a small smile spread across her face. “anyway, were you saying something?”

“see, aren’t you glad you got that second shot of expresso? it makes all the difference,” olive explained, proud of conquering the menu of the local coffee bar. truth be told, she needed it to function. “do you remember what it’s called?”

“This coffee helps a little but I still can’t seem to find where I’m staying? You wouldn’t possibly mind helping would you?”

as she focused on reading his lip, olive soon became puzzled. what the hell was a me-me? she must’ve misheard him. “i’m sorry,” she began, signing her words as she spoke them. “could you repeat that?” 

“ ah - this language is so strange. “ river sighed out. “ i swear it is as if they aren’t even speaking english - like what is this me-me i keep hearing about ? is it a popular dish here ? “

Elena laughed at the other’s comment as she kept pace with the other. “The buddy system works well I have to admit.”

She thought for a second at the woman’s ideas, and had to admit they weren’t exactly unimaginable. “Maybe, I mean I can see why they would do that. Especially with - well you know.” She didn’t really want to talk about the war, but her voice said it before her mind did. 

“What a pretty name,” Elena said, smiling at the explanation. “I’m not sure I’ve ever met an Olive before.”  

“unless the buddy you’re stuck with is named ryder. in that case, he’ll just rip your map and throw you over his shoulder,” olive explained, crinkling her nose at the memory of her and her brother. “there has to be some kind of room where they handle all of this shit. oh... you know what? i bet there’s a whole wall of screens where they watch all of us. i’ve already determined that the ring they gave me before we left has a tracking device in it.” by that point, olive’s hands were moving faster than her mouth could ━━ she was deep into her own theory. “never met an olive, huh? not a big fan of martinis i see,” the brunette smirked, hugging her binder to her chest as she crossed through the park in the center of town.
