y’all i really think tiktok did something that erased so much of the digital safety stuff that we grew up with.

i know this is a point that plenty have made already but so many of us grew up with the idea that if we were to even disclose our first name to the internet it would be a disaster and would destroy all of our safety.

like who remembers completely lying about your age and name and everything in the most mundane of situations online because lord forgive you tell a STRANGER your FIRST NAME.

and in the past (maybe eight?) years that has gone completely in the opposite direction. i remember being shocked that kids in my class were making accounts with their full names, then being shocked that they posted videos in school uniform!!

now it’s like totally commonplace to share literally every thought and experience you have. people drop their full name, age, location, every possible identifying feature about themselves without hesitation.

(this is brought on by me seeing a reel with that song from probably five years ago that’s like “here’s some things to get to know about me, let’s start with my name! my age, my height, my gender identity and my favourite game! this is where i live now - and this is where i’m from!” et cetera et cetera)

also that song being as popular and used as it was is crazy to me even now

please people of the internet have some concern for your privacy like what is going on

one thing that i love about n00b (2024) is that in the big fight between the five main characters, not a single one feel unreasonable in their arguments or their emotions.

i remember talking to my partner about it while watching it, and they agreed that these characters feel like actual, relatable teenagers. all of their problems make sense, their reactions make sense, their emotions and the way the respond and lash out at each other makes sense.

yes, they are being unfair, and harsh, and selfish. that’s what it’s like being an imperfect person. and it’s especially what it at least feels like when you’re a teenager.

i love it when media can embrace it when characters are not flawless and perfect, but that doesn’t make them monsters, it doesn’t make them horrible people. they’re just being normal people who lash out and fuck up under stress.

they’re just being teenagers, in a way that is so realistic to actual teenagers

I wanna have a booth at my local farmer's market with a banner that says like, everyone deserves beautiful, sustainable things and just do like,, a pay-what-you-can starting at like $10 for handmade goods and patched/altered clothes i source from the local thrift store's waste stream. That's the fuckin dream. Collecting paper bags to make printed wrapping paper? collecting people's old clothes to repurpose as patches or mended garments? Making beautiful, mended, clothes into an accessible aesthetic??????? i want it so bad
