Seasonal Aesthetic Blog~

𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑.     a chill right down to the bones.  tobogganing.   teeth chattering.   sleeping all day.   sitting by the fireplace.   spending time with family. layered clothing.    seeing another’s breath.   loving the cold.   a state of inactivity.    cold hands.   blistering winds shaking the closed windows.   a bookcase full of brand new books and all of the time in the world to read them. cable knit socks.   a bitter remark.   a log cabin in the middle of nowhere.   hating the cold. full-length windows to peer out of. pale skin. deep conversations.  watching the snow fall. sharp edges.  hot cocoa.   smelling every candle in the store.  a wild snow storm. melancholy. lighting candles around the bathtub.  snow globes.   expressing yourself but never finding quite the right words. the softest of blankets.  liking, but not loving something or someone.

Immediately the words are lost again. The amount of things she had to say and the tension here now were both a bit over dramatized, but Aubrey couldn't help that. Pleased still that Basil's initial reaction wasn't negative outwardly, a little hope stayed in her chest. Opening her mouth then closing it again, she nods and steps in beside him. Scanning the open room, she nods to Polly off to the side before turning back to her old friend.

"Hey Basil... Nice to see you again, too. Sorry for the time, er, I was sorta busy earlier." Not a total lie. "I just wanted to talk."

Trying to clear some of the seriousness of her dull tone, Aubrey glances at the backpack-happy he seemed to notice it-and gives it a shake before looking back to him.

This small, old backpack sure brought a lot of memories with it, the sound of bags crunching against each other lightly and one side weighing heavier than the other added to this sense of nostalgia. Unlike some other items and special places of Aubrey's, this hadn't been brought back out for various reasons, it was simply unneeded these days. But it would hopefully make this moment special and soothe some tension.

The plan; bring The Old Bag of Snacks and Drinks to Basil's house, and speak on neutral, hopefully good grounds. Sure he hadn't agreed or even known of her plan, but that would surely show her commitment to the idea of making up regardless of her feelings on many things right now, right? And if not, he'll have to deal with it and she can...

Well, she can try to ignore him, too, then. As angering the thought was, the teen paused her packing and playing with one of the cloth straps, staring emptily back at it. She's practically lost him twice, maybe thrice now even, please don't let it happen a final, permanent time.

With a sigh, Aubrey pulls her hoodie on and throws the backpack over one shoulder, strutting out the door with nothing more than a vague mumbled "See you later" in the living room, and headed down the street. It was dark out, but at least his window was bright enough to imply someone was awake, or at least home... Rehearsing in her head again, she gives a few quick, loud raps on the door.

With the new startling addition of a sharp blade being pressed to her neck, Aubrey nearly falls back in panic. It hardly takes any time before her mouth is running ahead of her thoughts again, for better or for worse.

"What the hell?! 'Heroic' isn't pointing a dang weapon at someone!! B-Back off!" Her voice rang loud and tense against the walls, much more showing of a nervous girl her age. "No one is actin' anything but you being seriously creepy! So quit lying, I don't need anything from you if you're all death and threats!"

Backing up to the wall, she feels around for a familiar wooden defense, gripping the bat and pulling it up closer to her. It probably wouldn't do much if she could get close enough to push or swing at this lady but maybe it'll at least make her back down or show she's strong too. If all else fails, she can run away somewhere and try to wash that thing off her hand there.

Oh shit, it worked? This ‘summoning’ was supposed to be some game, but this definitely does not feel right. And this woman was very…harsh. As the initial shock of her appearance wore off, annoyance and offense replaced it. And the one sided conversation seemed to skip right over her own responses! By the time the question of names was brought up, her face was pink and arms crossed, standing with her knees marked red from sitting on them.

“Why don’t you tell me your name first, if you’re so superior?” The younger girl huffs indignantly and tries to hold some sort of dignity up. “It’s Aubrey. So what are you, some kinda..demon, o-or something? No one’s trying to get anyone killed either-” Though the temptation of revenge outside death tugged at her heart.

Suddenly the second to last part registered finally, and she uncrosses her arms to quickly look at her hands. Oh gosh, there it is, get it off. She begins furiously rubbing at it with her thumb.

Kriemhild quietly stared at the girl, first introduction, and she already felt like getting pissed off at her but honestly, would it be worth getting mad at this kid? To make the message clear that what is going on is real and not to mess with her, she drew the cursed sword Balmung close to the girl’s neck. “Don’t try me. My patience is small, and I hate people who try to act smart on me.” the servant replies and lowers the sword.

“I am Kriemhild,” she responds to Aubrey’s question. “I am not a demon; I am a servant, a heroic spirit.” To be honest, she wouldn’t qualify as something heroic at all. “I’ll follow your orders…as long as you are useful to me.”

Nodding at Basil's answer in a 'good, good' sort of response, she couldn't really tell how this was going yet. Especially knowing how some of the most recent things she knew of his life went. Aubrey's unadmittedly not exactly the best at reading people genuinely, rather jumping to her own quick conclusions, and it was already difficult not to say 'He doesn't want either of us to be here right now'. Along with the feeling that someone may see them...not every one of her new friends was open to accepting the teo's.. possibly fixable old friendship?.. and the idea of being seen alone with the boy didn't feel safe yet.

Oh, what was she saying? Everything is screaming to give in and leave now, but what should that matter right now if she wanted to talk to him? Nothing would get done worrying about everyone, and she promise Hero and..Mari. And...it would only take a few minutes probably. Setting her jaw, she nods again at the invitation and sits down, no longer keeping eye contact. See, this is... Manageable! After a pause that felt too long, she answers.

"Uh, nice... Good as it can be too, I guess? It's a little eerie that it feels like the world hasn't changed since the..." Hospital. She looks down at her hands and picks at a nail.

Maybe…she would just stay out here for a little longer. Aubrey had made plans for tomorrow but today was already so stressful, and for what? There was no will to go home yet but few other places were open without needing to buy things to stay around, and the air outside wasn’t getting too cold just yet, some time out alone around the park would be good probably.

A familiar call catches her attention, and snaps her out of deep thought. Looking back to the source of the voice, she sees Basil sitting and staring back from quite a bit away. Not too far, but at least a few paces back. Immediately an uneasy tension filled the air; she hadn’t gotten the chance to speak with him one on one yet, but was also admittedly putting off initiating it while she thought about recent events and revelations and emotions by herself. Keeping her cool as promised prior, Aubrey turns back to approach him, but stays standing for now.

“Hey, didn’t see you there. Er, how’s it going?…”

This at least felt… Manageable. Just a normal conversation, when was the last time he had really done that with anyone, much less with Aubrey? He should be savoring a moment like that, not running from it… But he couldn’t help himself either… The unknown was never something he was comfortable dealing with, instead the safe and the navigable being more his speed. Despite this, he needed to try. For both of them, some sense of normalcy was likely what they needed.

“Uh, pretty good, honestly- At least, as good as it can be-” he replies, the last part tapering off slightly into a halfhearted laugh. Thankfully, though, it had more to do with things out of everyone else’s control. At least in the things that had to do with him personally rather than… What he had done, he felt better about dealing with them in his own way. His problems were his own, but those other issues he didn’t wish to tread on, at least without someone else initiating it. He knew he had done wrong, he’d rather not force others to dwell on it. 

“You can sit! Um, if you want to-” He pats the seat next to him, though it’s only an invitation. “How have you been, anyway?”
