Recommend me Yugioh DM fanfiction:
The kind that involves
• character study
• canon or canon divergent
• deep / heavy/ packed with internal thinking
• appropriately paced, good grammar
• Ryou or Y! Bakura centric
• bonus if there is hinted tendershipping
It has been a very long time since I've read any heavy hitters in the YGO fandom. I spent a lot of time on ff.net back in the day, and even then, it was hard to find. I've come across very imaginative AUs, tons of smut, meet-cute, kid fic, coffeehouse AU, and EWE, and all are great, but what I really want is a darker, character driven and story driven long fanfiction.
Ps, I do not need The Last Puzzle recc'd as I'm already intensely waiting for the next update.

I really want to read this! And I LOVE Severus' Rudolf sweater! ❤️
Crowdy Christmas.
Ah, guys, Christmas is almost here soo... I was thinking about a Muggle AU Christmas party where Lily and James live at Spinner's End right next to Eileen and Severus. And they spend Christmas Eve together. Harry visits his parents every year. He's in his thirties now, but his teenage crush on mom's old friend never gone away! Also let's pretend that the person on the right pushed Severus against Harry by accident xD (And now I'm itchy to write it (ᗒᗨᗕ))

Follow You
Summary: Orphaned at 16, Harry is directly placed into the foster care system and is soon placed with relatives he never knew existed. He begins at a new school and tries to make the most out of his situation. The Dursleys are abusive; Harry hides the bruises beneath ill-fitting clothes. His grades plunge. Depression takes over his waking thoughts. His budding friendships drift apart. Through it all, his sight remains on the troubled goth kid, utterly infatuated and completely oblivious. When Harry tries to intervene in the bullying and shaming aimed at his crush, it backfires. Instead of making a new friend, he's made an enemy.

EDIT: Thanks to some lovely people, I know the fic is called "Of Elevators and Muses." It has been deleted, but here's to hoping it sees the light of day again someday, should the author allow it ❤️
***********
Seeking an older tendershipping fanfiction:
Years ago, probably around 2012, I had read a tendershipping AU where Yami Bakura and Ryou are complete strangers who meet in an elevator of the apartment they both apparently shared. Bakura was rude, acerbic, and he smoked cigarettes indoors despite Ryou asking him to stop. Ryou was mostly stoic but really disliked Bakura. They only spoke in passing for a long while until Bakura heard piano music coming from someone's apartment. He follows the music and discovers that it's coming from Ryou, and he makes more effort at being an outright ass by demanding Ryou stop. But Ryou doesn't stop, he plays day after day. Bakura slowly begins to fall for Ryou.
For some reason, I think Ryou had a young child, but I am not sure.
I read this on fanfiction.net, and I have searched for it over the years but can't find it. It was so good, I would love to read it again. It is possible it was deleted long ago, so my hopes are slim.

I've read your post on manipulative characters, and it helped a lot! Could you explain how to write manipulated characters?
Creating a character who is under the influence or control of another is a challenging feat for any writer. To effectively portray this dynamic, it’s crucial to understand the manipulator’s goals and the methods they use to exert their influence. Let’s explore how a character’s dynamics might change when they are being manipulated.
Behaviour
Behave inconsistently with the decisions they would usually make.
Second-guess themselves or hesitate before acting.
Gradually change their behaviours to align more with the manipulator’s interests.
Show confusion or self-doubt.
Rationalise or defend the manipulator’s actions even when they are harmful.
Suppress their true desires to please the manipulator.
A declining interest in hobbies or activities that they once loved.
Signs of stress or anxiety, especially when the character is around the manipulator.
Increasingly isolating from their support network.
Making excuses for the manipulator’s behaviour to others.
Interactions
Unequal power dynamics, with the manipulator often interrupting or speaking over them.
A lack of reciprocal communication – the manipulator talks, the character listens.
Physical touch that seems controlling or guiding rather than comforting.
They are asked to keep secrets or lie on behalf of the manipulator.
Receive subtle threats or backhanded compliments from the manipulator.
Show an obligation to tend to the manipulator’s needs.
Are willing to compromise their morals under manipulative influence.
The manipulator may use personal information against them to keep them in line.
Have other characters note changes or express concern about their changed behaviour.
Have moments of realisation or clarity that are quickly squashed by the manipulator.
Body language
Closed off, with crossed arms or averted gaze.
Physical withdrawal or flinching.
Display nervous habits, like nail-biting, or fidgeting.
Make themselves smaller or trying to go unnoticed.
Have trouble maintaining eye contact.
Forced smiles or laughter to mask their true feelings.
Physical tension that doesn’t ease, even in supposedly relaxing environments.
Mimicking the manipulator’s body language subconsciously.
Physical exhaustion due to emotional strain.
Contrast in how they act around the manipulator versus others.
Attitude
A gradual erosion of the character’s optimism or hope.
Displays unwarranted hostility towards others.
Is overly apologetic, especially for things not their fault.
A shift from self-assuredness to self-deprecation over time.
A sense of helplessness that they struggle to overcome.
A fatalistic or defeatist outlook on their future.
A growing reluctance to make decisions independently.
Show internal conflict between their beliefs and the influence of the manipulator.
Repetition of the manipulator’s opinions as if they were their own.
A lost sense of identity through a disinterested or detached demeanor.
Positive story outcomes
An eventual recognition of manipulation as a moment of empowerment.
A journey towards reclaiming agency and self-worth.
Forming new, healthy relationships that contrast with the manipulator’s treatment.
Using their experience with manipulation to help others in similar situations.
The development of stronger personal boundaries and assertiveness.
Creative or professional achievements as they break free from manipulation.
Gaining insight and wisdom from their experiences.
Finding support systems that validate and uplift them.
A renewed sense of hope and direction in life post-manipulation.
Finds resilience and new strengths.
Negative story outcomes
Continued struggles with self-esteem and trust issues.
Setbacks and challenges in the aftermath of manipulation.
Potential for downward spirals as a result of the manipulative relationship.
A lasting impact of manipulation on the character’s relationships with others.
A psychological toll, such as anxiety or depression, that may linger.
Becomes wary of future relationships, romantic or otherwise.
Inadvertently emulates manipulative behaviours learned from the manipulator.
Might sabotage their own success due to ingrained beliefs planted by the manipulator.
Struggling to regain autonomy and make independent choices.
Increased tendency to isolate themselves to avoid being hurt again.
Helpful vocabulary
Coercion
Gaslighting
Subjugation
Compliance
Devious
Subtle
Undermine
Exploit
Domineering
Manipulate
Discredit
Influence
Contrived
Obedience
Suppression
Dependency

Tuesday, August 29.
weirdcore.
all is pretty weird this morning, pretty uncanny. like lights glowing over a misty pond, a song from childhood played from nowhere in adulthood, or the sound of your native language spoken well enough to be understood, but broken enough to just sound a bit off. it may be that something simply does not land. it may be that something leaves you with a peculiar sense of disquiet. it might be pleasing, it might be disconcerting. it might be something eerie yet, at the same time, it might be something you simply cannot look away from.
#weirdcore is altogether hard to define, but it seems to overlap with horrorcore, if not outright frightening. it seems to overlap too with surrealcore, if not overtly or explicitly bizarre. it overlaps perhaps most closely with liminal spaces, but even then, all that is weirdcore lacks the sparsity, the sense of in-between places, and the limbo quality that makes liminality so compelling. weirdcore then, just leaves you with that sense, of whatever shade, of something just a bit weird. it's kind of comforting, but it's really kind of not. and we are here for it.

Witchcore is a fantasy-based aesthetic centered around witchcraft, witchy practices, and nature. It also celebrates mysticism and all things supernatural. Witchcore was heavily influenced by gothic and hippie themes, and it is closely related to other nature-based aesthetics. More witchcore inspiration by the Witches of Tumblr.
Animal skulls in the woods, somewhere in Poland.
