Monday officially marked one year since bringing him home and, while the buddy-sour mare, his injury + current health concern situation and the resulting 4-month training break has seen us not nearly as far in his training as I would have liked to be at this point, it's still crazy to think that it has, in fact, already been a full year.
#the goal would have been to maybe celebrate our one year anniversary with a short first ride or something along those lines#which obviously did not happen#I'm mostly just glad that the fever's stayed down; despite the current heat wave#and am now hoping for actual results that may actually give is some idea as to why the lymph node swelling keeps persisting#he's definitely put on some excess weight that we'll have to focus on getting down again once he's cleared to be back in training#equine#horses#horseblr#horses of tumblr#spanish horse#cruzado#.creacher

Shakira felt that she was cheated out of her lesson today, but she has another week of strengthening work to go before she is ridden again.

#checked over the lab results again today and suddenly it hit me that it might be early stage piro#checked in with my vet to confirm my suspicion and the vet agrees#gotta call into the lab tomorrow at work to see what they need for further testing#though this would explain why none of the antibiotics he's been on have kicked in so far#.creacher#vet updates

Got to save these little guys @ work today, after they fell out of their nest during a storm
#non horsey post#fire department picked us up at the practice and gave us a ride#little guys were pretty cold but otherwise healthy and started begging for food right after warming up for a bit#goldfinch#birds#birdblr#there was two more but they had passed by the time we got there

results are back - extremely high inflammatory values (not surprising giving his fever) along with some other values both above and below the norm that point towards an inflammation of some kind - question is where and why - as well as minor anemia. Currently waiting for my vet to properly evaluate everything to see if we need further testing.
At the very least the fever remains down, lymph node swelling isn't getting any better tho :/

The way current circumstance has me spontaneously learning how to draw blood from horses on my own (very sweet, very well behaved, incredibly patient) horse.

first time he did that actually had me like 🥺❤️
#I guess it's safe to say he isn't mad about me poking him with a needle earlier today#and then the mare had to ruin the moment 0.3 seconds later by urging him to get up#(she's currently in heat)#equine#horseblr#horses of tumblr#.creacher

#I work at a practice for small pets & exotics#though we still have fairly good ties to an equine vet who used to co-own the place years ago before eventually going solo#asked him if he'd be cool with drawing blood for me but letting me send it in for testing via our practice for the employee discount#and he offered to run me through it so that I can just do it myself#should I need to in the future#super chill#horse was so cool abt it too#here's hoping we'll get some clarity out of this#vet updates

somewhat less optimistic, about 48 hours on antibiotics only without fever meds and his temp shows a tendency of going up again. Not crossing back into high fever territory yet, though I'm already dreading taking his temps tomorrow :/ I'm considering getting a different vet out for a second opinion but it's starting to look a lot like we're due for a stay at a clinic to figure out what's going on :')

(carefully optimistic) we seem to have the fever (mostly) under control. He does still get some elevated temps in the afternoon, though those tend to go down without meds by the evening. What's starting to worry me, however, is that the swelling of his lymph nodes still shows no sign of going down, and there's only so much tests we can run at the stable, so worst case scenario - if there's no improvement by the end of this week, we might have to consider having him send to a clinic for further testing, though I'm hoping it won't have to come to that :/
