musetothemusic:
There was something off about this man, Amumu realized when he started to speak. His voice was unlike anything Amumu had ever heard before. He didn’t often get to talk to humans, but he was fairly certain they didn’t sound like that.
He couldn’t even think of words to describe what the man’s voice sounded like. The closest he could get was the sound of coins being rubbed together maybe, the metallic scraping sound that they created when their faces slid over each other, but even that was an entirely inaccurate descriptor.
And then there was the metal suit. Amumu had thought it strange from a distance, but up close, it was just bizarre. It seemed too… tight? Almost as if the armor had been painted right on top of the man’s natural muscles in some places.
But perhaps one of the oddest things about him was that he didn’t run or attack or seem to perceive Amumu as any sort of threat at all, and answered the boy’s inquiry about the city with the bluntest honesty. Unfortunately.
It was not good news, and he could not keep himself from being visibly disheartened. He wasn’t sure what he had been expecting or why he had been expecting anything at all. One of the tears that had been brimming in the corner of his eye fell and soaked into the bandages on his cheek.
“Oh,” he sighed, and he dropped his gaze so that the man wouldn’t see his trembling lip, a clear sign of exploitable weakness.
“I just… I just thought… cities have lots of people… so I might… make some fri…” His voice, already small and soft, faded into silence as he approached the end of his sentence. Saying it aloud, he realized how idiotic his reasoning must sound, how silly and naive. He lightly kicked at the sand and refused to make eye contact, embarrassment squeezing a few more tears out of him.
“You left the city… because it’s dangerous, then?” he asked, fidgeting with a bandage around his wrist. “Th-the desert has dangerous stuff in it, too…” He supposed he counted as the “dangerous stuff” in the desert, whether he meant anybody any harm or not. “Big, scary monsters under the sand.”
“ This was something that anyone who was looking to traverse the desert ought to know. While it looked quiet and empty on the surface, beneath the sands, it teemed with life, often malevolent life.
Amumu only very rarely saw the desert creatures, the most dangerous ones being hulking monstrosities the size of a modest house. For the most part, whenever he did encounter them, they left him alone. A lot of the time, they would go about their business as if he didn’t even exist. That made sense, though, he figured, since he couldn’t imagine himself tasting very good.
What he did see more than the creatures, however, was the destruction they left behind. Corpses mangled beyond recognition, to the point where it was impossible to tell whether they had been animal or human. Huge tunnels carved through rock. Entire villages empty, silent and still, save for… something shifting in the sand underfoot.
If the dangerous creatures in the city were anything like the ones in the desert, then perhaps, the man was right. Perhaps, it really was unwise to go.
“And you’re out here… all by yourself,” Amumu pointed out, hazarding a glance up at the man’s mask. His large, yellow eyes posed a question that he didn’t speak aloud.
So, why would you wish to come to a place like this?
All Yi could do was listen and nod. For some reason, he could detect an unspeakable, unfathomable sadness emanating from the boy. It sank into his words, his posture, and into the very sand shifting at their feet. The desert beasts that the boy spoke of sounded terrifying, but they were nowhere as terrifying as the horrors born of technology gone rogue that ran amok in the city. Something like those monsters... They must be ancient. People have been dealing with them for centuries, perhaps longer. Yi felt safer in the desert than in the city, where everything was loud and dark. In the desert, at least, there was some peace between the chaos. At least, that was what he assumed. The scorching heat of the desert was an unfortunate side effect that he had to bear, and with his body being mostly made out of metal, he overheated quite easily. He was lucky there were dark smoggy clouds in the sky near the city, but from what he remembered about deserts, there would be less and less shelter the further he traveled.
The boy’s final words to him made him pause suddenly in his thoughts. Out here... With the monsters. Perhaps Yi was, himself, one of the technological monsters of the city. After all, he had woken up and was almost immediately attacked. He, along with the other PROJECTs, represented everything that was wrong with the world now. In many ways, he hoped that he wouldn’t pose a danger to this boy. He still barely understood his body, his powers, and his weaknesses. It always felt like there was something humming just beneath the surface of his skin, an alien creature waiting to take over, and he was just barely in control. Then, there were the memories... The memories that sometimes surfaced in fragments, sweet and bitter alike mingling into a broken movie of someone else’s life.
Yi decided that instead of ruminating in his thoughts--he could do that some other time, when he wasn’t speaking to someone, for example--he would explain to the boy why the city was definitely not a good place to go. “The monsters of the city are worse than those in the desert. The primordial beasts that lurk beneath the shifting sands are nothing compared to the horrors that lie in the city’s sewers. I promise, these desert beasts will provide far better company than those in the city.” He hoped that this would not scare the boy too much. If anything, he just wanted the best for a fellow traveler, and the best was to be far, far away from this cursed place.
“I’m not alone,” he continued. “You are here too.” Something inside him told him that the boy, much like him, was born of something sinister. Something did not wish either of them well--even if those forces were so incredibly different. One brand new, one ancient; one magical, one technological. Then, he realized he did not introduce himself. Even if the name he remembered was a single syllable, a humble symbol, he found himself speaking it despite himself. “I realize I forgot to introduce myself. I apologize. My name is Yi.”

PROJECT Yi
You got: The Chariot
You! get! shit! done! You’re determined and action-oriented, focused and persistent. Underneath your aggressive spirit, however, you’re also fiercely caring — and can be a protective force to be reckoned with if anyone crosses the people you care about.

Tagging: I honestly have only interacted with one (1) person here so far, but feel free to steal it if you want to?

( closed starter for @crxssedpxths )
The city, with its bright lights, seemed to glitter like a jewel against the inky backdrop of the night. It was a glowing beacon of opportunities and potential friendships. Where there was a city, there was people, after all, lots of people.
Amumu stood at the top of a dune and gazed towards the city, awestruck by its radiance and filled with renewed hope, something he hadn’t had since… the gods only knew when.
He descended the dune in a hurry, almost sliding all the way down, and began the trek across the desert wastes towards the city. He became giddier with excitement the closer he got.
But something stopped the little mummy boy in his tracks when he was about halfway between the city and his dune: a figure—a man—who appeared to be wearing some kind of weird, metal armor that reflected the light of the moon and the city behind him.
The man was walking away from the city and into the desert, which confused Amumu. He was so eager to get to the city that he couldn’t imagine anyone wanting to leave.
But then his heart began to sink, as he thought maybe the city wasn’t such a nice place, after all. Maybe the man had been cast out, and maybe the people in the city would cast Amumu out, too, rather than offer him the companionship he had been hoping to find. The thought caused tears to cloud the corners of his vision.
He figured he ought to find out for sure, though, before he entered the city only to be met with crushed hope. Or before he avoided the city altogether and missed what could have been a good opportunity.
So, with great unease, he shuffled towards the man.
It would have been better if he could tail the man for a bit while he thought of how to approach, but seeing as this part of the desert was particularly desolate and empty, there weren’t many good places to hide. Besides, he and the man had already been moving towards each other from the start, so Amumu was convinced that the man would have noticed him before he could get in a good following position, anyway.
That, unfortunately, meant a more direct approach was probably the best and only way to go. He could only hope that he didn’t scare the man away before he got to ask about the city. A lot of people tended to run from the mummy boy, all the ones that didn’t die, anyway.
But when he approached, Amumu found himself wanting to run, and he started to doubt that this was really the best plan. The man really did look like some kind of warrior in his strange, metal suit, and he didn’t seem like the friendliest individual… Granted, Amumu couldn’t read the man’s face because of the mask, but even the mask, with its six angry orange eyes, wasn’t friendly-looking by any stretch of the imagination.
“Hhhh, um… h-hi,” Amumu offered to get the man’s attention. He was already off to a shaky start, and it wasn’t helped by the fact that the sound of his own voice startled him. He had lost track of how long it had been since he had actually gotten to speak to anybody.
“Are you… from the city?” He pointed in the direction of the glowing lights, as if there was any confusion as to which city he was referring to. “I, uh, I was… thinking about… maybe, ah… v-visiting…”
Oily puddles and dark alleyways were all Yi had known of the city until he had traveled a fair distance away. Glancing back, he saw the shining lights, glittering in its many neon colors in the dimming sky, masking the true nature of what the cyborg had seen. Nothing felt right. None of this felt right. He felt like a man from another time, a time of villages with thatched rooftops, a time of war, and a time of burning. Burning. The desert that surrounded the city seemed to be a remnant of that.
Yi had been walking for nearly a day by that point, yet he did not feel tired or worn. In fact, he was willing to believe he could walk on forever. He barely felt the chill of the desert night, or the heat of the day. In fact, it was difficult to feel anything anymore. He trudged along, his sword sheathed at his side. Its blade, normally a brilliant orange not dissimilar to that of the sunset, lay dormant, hidden inside the hilt of the sword through some mysterious mechanism that Yi had yet to quite figure out. It seemed that whoever put him here, whoever made him this way, was not thoughtful enough to include any information about the blade anywhere. Sometimes, he found if he thought too hard about moving his body, he would suddenly forget how everything worked. Instinct, not purpose, guided him. Something deep inside him told him to head towards the desert, to get away from the city, and to find some answers.
A presence registered in Yi’s consciousness as he walked, though he did not sense the same malevolence as he did when the monster from deep in his memory archives appeared. No. This presence... Was not angry. It was not bloodthirsty. All Yi could feel was an overwhelming sadness, a deep melancholy that could not be assuaged by anything known to him. Looking up, he saw a tiny, shambling figure in the distance. It could not have been any larger than a child, yet it had been out in the desert all this time. Without any conscious prompting, his vision slowly split into two colors; one natural, the other bright and slightly orange tinted. The orange tinted side of his vision (his left side, curiously) showed many details, far more than he would have otherwise seen in the semi-darkness.
He did not change his path even as the child (?) drew closer. That was when Yi realized that while this child may be small, he must be ancient. The wrappings on the child’s body was old and decaying, some of them falling off in long, papery strands. Hidden among the bandages lay the child’s eyes, which glowed pale yellow in the semi-darkness. Though unsettled, Yi could not imagine this child wishing any harm upon him.
“The city is a dangerous place,” he replied, voice tinny and electronic. The sound of his own voice almost surprised him with its inhuman quality. Nothing about him felt natural, but... He supposed that he was not the only unnatural thing out here tonight. “Especially dangerous for a child. There are many... Unknown forces there, ready to take advantage of any weakness. Dangerous creatures lurk in the shadows of the alleyways. Why would you wish to go to a place like that?”

Like/reblog if you’d like to interact with PROJECT Yi!
I’d love to get back into the LoL rp community after several years of hiatus from it (if you were around in late 2015, you might have known me by ask-project-master-yi please do not look it up, it’s not pretty), but obviously, I’ve grown up a lot since then, and feel like I can fully realize his character in writing.
Btw, this is a multimuse blog (you can check out my canons and OCs, but all of them are currently a work in progress). Yi’s dossier and backstory are complete (for the most part), as is my rules page. If you’d like to check out samples of my writing, this is my main rp blog, where I’ve been writing for more than three years.
I look forward to writing with everyone!
