How bout a funky little update for myself to find later, or for anyone who still follows me to see: I’m 25 now. Last year, a few days after I turned 24, after five years together, I broke off an engagement to a man who treated me badly and made me a person I didn’t recognize, and tore my whole life apart and put it back together in a way that initially felt so incredibly unrecognizable and foreign to me. I had to work hard on myself to fix all the ways I had become awful while I was in a really toxic situation. I have grown so much in the last year, I’ve learned a lot about accountability. I hit five years as a cosmetologist, made so many new friends, built so many of my existing friendships, and for a while I found the closest thing to peace I’ve ever had. I also lost my grandfather, who half raised my sister and I, which has been unbearable. Unbelievable. All encompassing. My mental health has been up and down, but I think I’m coming out the other side, and I’m finding my peace again. I got into kpop, met so many cool people because of it, I’ve gone to concerts that have blown my mind. I started reading again, and crocheting, and making bracelets, I’ve really found my creativity and desire to learn again now that I have time to think about me. Since the last time I’ve been on here consistently, I’ve started to more publicly identify myself as nonbinary (they/them pronouns please), and I’ve started using the name Mae full time. I finally got formal diagnoses for both bipolar disorder and autism, which means I’ve been able to seek treatment for bp1 and implement accommodations and supports for myself as an autistic person. I am trying hard every day to give myself the best chance I can at success and happiness. I’m not the best I’ll ever be, by a longshot, but I’m learning. I’m MILES better than I was three or four years ago. I’m better than I was last year. I’m working hard to be better every day.
