A person shows Google Quantum AI's "Willow" chip, in this undated handout photo obtained by Reuters on December 6, 2024. Google | Via ReutersAlphabet shares rose 5% during trading Tuesday, the day after the company hailed its latest quantum computing chip as a "breakthrough."The Google parent company on Monday revealed "Willow," a quantum computing chip that the company said performed significantly better on a quantum computing benchmark than its predecessor did in 2019. Willow, like similar quantum chips, uses uncertain "qubits" to represent numbers instead of transistors, which are used on traditional semiconductors. Google said its technology can reduce expected errors faster than they appear as quantum chips get bigger, which has been a bottleneck in the development of better quantum computers.Willow is the second milestone in a six-step strategy to develop quantum computers that can perform useful applications, Google said. The chip has about 100 qubits, but Google is planning to eventually build a system with 1 million qubits."Willow brings us closer to running practical, commercially-relevant algorithms that can't be replicated on conventional computers," Google wrote in a blog post, adding that the experiment is evidence that suggests that reality is comprised of parallel universes."We see Willow as an important step in our journey to build a useful quantum computer with practical applications in areas like drug discovery, fusion energy, battery design + more," Google CEO Sundar Pichai said on X.When quantum computing matures, it is expected to be useful for large-scale simulations and code breaking, but that may not be possible for years or decades. Google isn't the only tech giant working on quantum computing. Nvidia, Microsoft and IBM are also working on the technology, in addition to researchers at startups and universities.Google's announcement was praised on social media by several technology business figures, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman."We should do a quantum cluster in space with Starship one day," Pichai replied to Musk.Don’t miss these insights from CNBC PRO

Why was Dave Franco trending across multiple social media platforms? Because he’s a good-looking actor with Italian-American features and thick eyebrows. And because that set of features also happens to describe Luigi Mangione, the accused UnitedHealth CEO assassin. Because this story has become so controversial, there are those who are already planning the biopic of Mangione. Most are half-joking about Franco playing him in such a film. But he’s not the only famous figure who’s become part of the jokes. Dave Franco attends the 25th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards at The Shrine Auditorium on January 27, 2019. (Photo Credit: Frazer Harrison/Getty Images) In a sense, this isn’t about Dave Franco at all On Monday, December 9, the internet cried out in heartbreak. Police claimed to have arrested the gunman who killed UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson on December 4. When Luigi Mangione stopped by a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, an employee believed that he resembled security photos of the supposed shooter and called him in. Responses are mixed, both about the murder, the alleged assassin, and his arrest. Some are condemning the “class traitor” in the McDonald’s staff who allegedly reported him. In this handout photo released by the Altoona Police Department, Luigi Mangione is seen in a holding cell after being taken into custody on December 9, 2024 in Altoona, Pennsylvania. (Photo Credit: Altoona Police Department via Getty Images) Others are lamenting that Mangione’s social media history is disappointing, labeling the accused assassin a “milkshake duck.” That is, a person who becomes famous overnight, only for people to later learn that they are in some way not as good of a person as people previously assumed. The term “milkshake duck” does not normally apply to alleged killers. However, the dismal state of healthcare in the United States and public sentiment towards health insurance CEOs has meant that Thompson’s killing has been polarizing. CNN reports that a two-page document from Luigi Mangione was found, which included the lines:“These parasites had it coming. I do apologize for any strife and trauma, but it had to be done.” pic.twitter.com/v5d07Q6hRs— Pop Base (@PopBase) December 9, 2024 Luigi Mangione is the hot new meme The discovery that the suspect that police identified arguably is super hot did not exactly diminish people’s enthusiasm. What that says about us as a society, we leave to you to decide. Nevertheless, people have been posting what some might consider absolute works of art over how thirsty they are for Mangione. These thirst posts began long before police accused him of being the shooter. (Police also claim that he had fake I.D. and a two-page manifesto on his person, for whatever that’s worth) It wasn’t just that the face on the security stills looks fairly handsome. But yes, that helped. Someone check on Ryan Murphy[image or embed]— THEO FORD (@the-theo-ford.bsky.social) December 9, 2024 at 3:31 PM The memes also stem from social commentary on our deeply broken system. All across social media, people shared health insurance horror stories — particularly about UnitedHealth. Most of us would like to live in a nation of peace and justice, but defenders of the assassination have pointed out that millionaire CEOs of health insurers are unlikely to face any kind of justice through the legal system. One little twist of irony is that whichever McDonald’s employee allegedly snitched on Mangione might not be able to afford any meaningful amount of healthcare. We mention all of this to set the stage for why people are already joking over the seemingly inevitable biopics about this. Even if Luigi Mangione ends up being exonerated (many social media users are already, perhaps jokingly, offering to alibi him for the night of the killing), his story would be worth telling. Across TikTok, Bluesky, Tumblr, Reddit, and what remains of Twitter, social media users were suggesting that Dave Franco is a perfect fit for the role. They do have relatively similar facial features. Dave Franco frantically calling his agent[image or embed]— Keith Decent (@keithdecent.bsky.social) December 10, 2024 at 3:02 AM To be clear, Dave Franco is 39 years old. Handsome though he may be, he may be a bit a long in the tooth to portray someone who was playing Among Us with college buds just a few years ago. (Yes, we are alluding to NBC’s embarrassingly awful piece on Mangione’s video game history. Unusually high levels of brainrot) We’d suggest that Franco could definitely portray Mangione on Saturday Night Live. Possibly in a (video game) Luigi costume. Everything in this world is deeply absurd. But … maybe let’s wait and find out if the police claims are even remotely true before we start casting him in biopics about a very real murder.

EPAA man waves a Syrian opposition flag to celebrate the end of al-Assad ruleA stunning advance by Syrian rebels ended Bashar al-Assad's decades-long rule, with opposition forces taking the capital and forcing the president to flee on 8 December. The overthrow followed a 13-year civil war, which started after Assad crushed pro-democracy protests, killing more than half a million people and displacing millions more, and embroiled international powers and their proxies. The world is now watching to see how Syria's political landscape shapes up after the overthrow of the Assad family's half-century rule. Those with a vested interest in the conflict and the future of the country include, on one side, Russia and Iran - which backed Assad - and on the other, the US and Turkey, which supported different rebel groups. Here we explore how those countries, along with Israel, have played a role in Syria - and could continue to do so.TurkeyDuring Syria's civil war, Turkey has supported opposition forces - primarily the Syrian National Army (SNA) - by providing arms, military and political support.Syria's northern neighbour has mostly been concerned with using rebels to contain the Kurdish YPG militia, which Turkey accuses of being an extension of a domestically banned Kurdish rebel group. Turkey also wants the roughly three million Syrian refugees living in its country to return home. The YPG is the biggest militia in another rebel group, the US-backed and Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) alliance. During the war, Turkish troops and allied rebels seized stretches of territory from these groups along Syria's northern border.Turkey has also been politically involved. In 2020, Turkey and Russia brokered a ceasefire to halt a push by the government to retake Idlib, the rebels' stronghold in the north-west.Idlib has been administered since 2017 under a so-called government by Islamist militant group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which led the rebels that eventually overthrew Assad. Many believe the offensive could not have happened without Turkey's blessing. Turkey has denied backing HTS.Meanwhile, conflict in Syria's north continues: As Assad fell, the SNA launched a separate assault on areas held by the SDF.RussiaRussia already had a decades-long relationship with the Assad government, and had military bases there before the civil war. In 2015, Russia launched an air campaign and sent thousands of troops in support of the Assad regime. In return, Russia received 49-year leases on an air base and naval base, which provided crucial hubs in the eastern Mediterranean for transferring military contractors in and out of Africa. But fighting a war in Ukraine since 2022 preoccupied Assad's ally, contributing to the Syrian military's swift defeat to rebel groups in late November and early December.Assad and his family were granted asylum in Moscow after fleeing Damascus, Russian media reported.USAfter Syria's pro-democracy protests in 2011 were met with force, then US-president Barack Obama criticised the Assad government - but the US only became involved militarily in order to combat the Islamic State (IS).A US-led global coalition has carried out air strikes and deployed special forces since 2014 to help the Kurdish-led rebel alliance SDF capture territory once held by IS militants in the north-east.After the Assad government fell, the US government said it conducted dozens of air strikes against IS camps and operatives in central Syria to ensure IS could not take advantage of the unstable situation. However, President-elect Donald Trump, who takes office in January, said Syria is a "mess" the US should stay out of. When Trump was president in 2019, he withdrew US troops from Syria, a move his officials gradually rowed back. The US currently has around 900 troops in Syria.IranIran and Syria have been allies since Iran's Islamic Revolution in 1979. Syria backed Iran during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s.During the Syrian civil war, Iran is believed to have deployed hundreds of troops and spent billions of dollars to help Assad.Thousands of Shia Muslim fighters armed, trained and financed by Iran - mostly from the Lebanon-based Hezbollah movement, but also from Iraq, Afghanistan and Yemen - have also fought alongside the Syrian army. But similar to Russia, Hezbollah has been weakened by conflict with Israel in Lebanon, likely hastening the downfall of the Syrian military.IsraelIsrael shares a border with Syria. In the 1967 Six-Day War, Israel seized the Golan Heights, about 60km (40 miles) south of Damascus, from Syria, before annexing it in 1981. The annexation is not recognised by the UN and many other countries.Israel has conducted air strikes against Iran-linked targets in Syria during the war, although it rarely acknowledges such strikes.Since rebels overthrew Assad, Israel has carried out hundreds of attacks across Syria. Targets include Syria's military infrastructure, naval fleet, and weapons production sites. Israel said it is acting to stop weapons falling "into the hands of extremists".Israeli forces have also seized the demilitarised buffer zone in the Golan Heights and may have strayed into nearby Syrian territory. BBC Verify geolocated an image of an IDF soldier standing just over half a kilometre beyond the buffer zone, inside Syria on a hillside near the village of Kwdana.

President Biden on Tuesday touted that President-elect Trump will inherit the "strongest economy in modern history" when he takes office in January – even as Americans continue to struggle to afford homes and groceries from inflation.Biden delivered remarks about his "middle-out, bottom-up" economic approach at the Brookings Institution, a public policy think tank in Washington, D.C., claiming there are "a number of quotes" from commentators describing his administration’s economy as strong."President Trump has received the strongest economy in modern history, which is the envy of the world," Biden said. While inflation has eased significantly since its peak in 2022, grocery prices remain substantially higher than they did before the COVID pandemic swept the globe nearly five years ago.HOUSE DEMS RIPPED FOR SOCIAL MEDIA POST ON KEY ISSUE AFFECTING AMERICANS: ‘EMBARRASSING’ Biden said Trump was receiving "the strongest economy in modern history." We’ve known it for years, haven’t we? Kody Brown has financial problems because he’s lazy and has no job outside of reality television and is generally bad at managing money. Okay, we didn’t know it before. We just assumed it previously. But we know it now. Kody Brown is notoriously awful at tracking his money. (TLC) On the December 9 episode of her The Authentic Society podcast, Madison Brush didn’t hold back or mince a single word when it came to her father’s ability to maintain a healthy bank account. Along with the way in which he has handled this general situation in the past. “Before the show, we were very poor,” the 29-year old daughter of Kody and Janelle told her audience, referencing Sister Wives. “My dad made decent money but we had 15 kids.” We’re sorry. But that’s just too many kids. Kody Brown is no longer in any polygamous relationships. (TLC) Madison, who is pregnant with her fourth child, then delved into the family’s ongoing outlook and set-up. “My dad always chose the get-rich-quick scheme, almost always,” she continued. “That was such a foreign thought to [husband] Caleb. And I remember explaining some ideas to him and he was like, ‘No, no.’” The mother of three also noted that Kody was formerly a “sign salesman,” who spent money on random “investments with people.” Kody Brown appears to be in distress here. (TLC) She explained in further and troubling detail: “When we got our tax returns when we were younger, my parents immediately spent it on something, and Caleb’s family were both educated and they did not. They saved it. They saved every penny they could.” Sounds very responsible to us. Elsewhere, Madison seemed to echo what her mom said recently about how Kody isn’t close to his loved ones at this point. Not in any way, shape or form. Kody Brown has no real relationship with any of his kids. (TLC) “I have no contact with some of my family, and it’s because of stuff that has happened,” Madison shared on the November 11 episode of this same podcast. “[Kody] doesn’t have any respect for boundaries, and you have to play by his rules, and I just don’t care to do that.” Kody was even estranged from late son Garrison at the time of his suicide because the two clashed over Kody’s very strict COVID-19 regulations during the height of that pandemic. “My dad would get very angry when I would… I’m a straight shooter,” Maddie also said last month. “That was one of the reasons that I went no contact because it was like, he didn’t like a mirror being held up.” Sounds like the Kody Brown we’ve gotten to know: bad with money and bad with taking responsibility of any kind.

Sherri Carpineto has enough experience working in corporate America to know that finding work-life balance can feel impossible.Carpineto, 48, is currently a senior director of operations for a health-care company and lives in Boston. Over her 20-year-plus career, she's learned it's important to her to have strong boundaries around paid time off.Two years ago, when she was offered a vice president-level role at a health-care company that offered 10 days of PTO — inclusive of both vacation and sick time — she knew even the 25% pay bump wouldn't make up for the lost flexibility.Carpineto was already in a job she enjoyed when a recruiter reached out to her to interview for a top-level operations role at a new company. She was curious and accepted the invite. However, Carpineto noticed when the CEO said during an interview that she struggled with work-life balance and that the company's policies didn't do much to help. "This was not about PTO in particular, but that is a part of it," Carpineto says.Looking back, Carpineto says she should have paid attention to the red flag, but she continued on with interviews and eventually landed an offer.Rejecting a job offer over PTOCarpineto admits the offered salary was "generous" and would have been a roughly 25% increase from her previous job. But in reviewing the benefits, she learned of the 10-day PTO policy, "and that just would not work for me."Managing time off around the school year for her two sons, now 12 and 15, could easily take up all those paid days off, she thought. And that wouldn't leave wiggle room for unexpected illnesses or other time off needs."To me, as a mom of two boys, being able to have that flexibility of more than 10 days off an entire year was important to me and my family at that point," she says.Carpineto says she was also caring for her sick mother at the time.[Paid time off] sets a precedent for what the company values and what they value for their employeesCarpineto says she tried to negotiate for more paid days off – she was used to a minimum of 15 days per year from previous jobs. She even tried to negotiate her contract to include an allowance of one to two weeks of unpaid time off if needed, which the company also declined. What's more, Carpineto recalls the recruiter asking her to make a decision within a day, which was too quick for her comfort. The potential for a big pay raise made the decision much harder, but Carpineto ultimately declined the offer. She says the discussion over PTO was likely a sign she and the new company weren't a good fit.Carpineto views the PTO conversation as bigger than having a few extra vacation days: "It sets a precedent for what the company values and what they value for their employees. Knowing that they trust you and they offer that flexibility is the sort of environment I want to work at in at this point in my career."Plus, she worried that the company's lack of flexibility would limit her abilities as a people-manager. "I'm a high-producing person, and I expect good results from anyone that works for me," she says. "But I'm also very much in the camp of: Work shouldn't take away from family time. So working in that environment as a manager is not something that I was interested in."Getting clear on prioritiesCarpineto says she was in a fortunate position to be able to decline the job without being financially strained. While unemployed workers or those in need of a better job might not have as much leverage to say no, she encourages job-seekers to make sure they're clear on what they need out of a role.Get clear on your essentials and your nice-to-haves in a job, whether that's around the role itself, the company or the benefits on offer, Carpineto says. Prioritize and stick to them, whether it's a certain salary, good health benefits, opportunities for career advancement, or something else."If it's a priority, ask [for it]," Carpineto says. "If you don't ask, you don't get it."Want to earn more money at work? Take CNBC's new online course How to Negotiate a Higher Salary. Naila Al-AbassiIntisar, Dima and Najah were arrested and imprisoned with their mother and three other siblingsFamilies of Syrian detainees have been searching for their missing loved ones since thousands of prisoners were released after the fall of the Assad regime on Sunday. The family of a Syrian dentist who was arrested along with her six children has told the BBC they are still hoping to find them.Meanwhile, the daughter of a US-based psychotherapist who was snatched in 2017 and is thought to be dead says she has been buoyed by videos of people who were declared dead being found alive. As rebel forces swept across the country in recent weeks, they freed thousands of political prisoners held in government jails - including the notorious Saydnaya prison near the capital, Damascus. But with torture and executions commonplace in these places under Bashar al-Assad's government, many are still waiting to see if their relatives are among those freed.'We really hope we can see Rania and her kids again'Rania Al-Abassi was arrested from her home in Damascus in March 2013 by Syrian military intelligence officers. Her children, aged between two and 14 years old, were taken to prison with her. Her husband, Abdul Rahman Yasin, was arrested the day before. Rania's sister, Naila Al-Abassi, a doctor living in Saudi Arabia, told the BBC "we cannot accept that Rania was killed"."Since the fall of the regime, we really hope we can see Rania and her kids again. Especially, we want to see her six children."Naila al-AbassiNaila Al-Abassi says her family are actively searching for Rania and her childrenAt the time of their arrest, Abassi's children - Dima, Entisar, Najah, Alaa, Ahmed and Layan - were 14, 13, 11, eight, six and two respectively."They took Rania with her kids and since that day we don't know anything about them," Naila said. The family have only received one piece of information about their detainment, which came shortly after the arrest. They believe the family was held at a prison in Damascus, known as the Palestine branch, which was operated by Syrian intelligence. A female inmate who was released told the family in 2013 that she heard the voices of children in the prison, two weeks after the arrest. Now that prisoners have been released, family members on the ground have visited the prisons to try to find them. "We are watching the news and seeing people released from the prisons and looking at the videos to see if we can see them," Naila said."But the prisons have been opened and we haven't seen Rania yet. It is unbearable.""We were waiting for this day for 13 years," she added. "But our wounds are still fresh now as if it happened yesterday."Naila Al-AbassiThe Abassi family before they were arrested'The FBI told us he was dead but they did not have a body'Majd Kamalmaz, a psychotherapist from Texas, disappeared in Syria in 2017. His daughter, Maryam, told the BBC she is still trying to find out what happened to him.Kamalmaz had travelled to Damascus to visit an elderly family member. On the second day of his trip, Mr Kamalmaz - who was born in Syria but grew up and lived in the US - was stopped at a Syrian government checkpoint in Damascus, and has not been seen or heard from since that day.Earlier this year, US intelligence officials told his family they had credible, classified information that he died in prison.Maryam KamalmazMaryam Kamalmaz has renewed hope after seeing reports that people declared dead were still aliveBut Maryam Kamalmaz refuses to give up on the idea that her father may still be alive."The FBI told us he was dead - but they did not have a body or any concrete information," she said. "We are seeing stories of people [who] were declared dead and given death certificates and then they actually turned out to be alive."It renews our hope to find him alive. But if we don't, then at least we want to find his remains and have some sort of closure."Maryam added: "We have people inside Syria going to the hospitals with high hopes, as well as to Saydnaya prison. "I keep looking at the pictures and videos of people coming out of the Saydnaya prison, and thinking maybe I will see him there."Maryam said she does not know why her father was kidnapped. View gallery Image Credit: Xavier Collin/Image Press Agency/Splash News / SplashNews.com Jamie Foxx is addressing his health once again. During his new Netflix special, What Had Happened Was, the actor revealed that he experienced a brain bleed that led to a stroke. While breaking down the events for his audience, Jamie also got emotional while recalling being unconscious for around 20 days. “April 11, I was having a bad headache, and I asked my boy for Aspirin. I realized quickly that when you’re in a medical emergency, your boys don’t know what the f**k to do,” Jamie joked before explaining that the doctor told him he “may be able to make a full recovery, but it’s going to be the worst year of his life.” Jamie then acknowledged, “That’s what it was.” Jamie’s special, What Had Happened Was, premieres on Netflix on December 10, 2024. In a lengthy video, Jamie revealed he wasn’t sure if he wasn’t sure if he would “make it through” the mystery illness, but declined to give more detail about what his health challenges were. “I went through something that I thought I would never, ever go through,” Jamie said in the clip. “I know a lot of people were waiting and wanting to hear updates, but to be honest with you, I just didn’t want you to see me like that. I didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me, trying to figure out if I was going to make it through.” “I went to hell and back. My road to recovery also had some potholes, but I’m coming back and I’m able to work. I wanna thank the people that let me work and say I love everybody and I love all the love that I got,” he also said with a slightly raspy voice. Jamie took the opportunity to clear the air about rumors he was blind or paralyzed, denying both conditions. The privacy and lack of public information around Jamie’s health issues allowed a lot of fear and speculation to flourish. His family has done what they could to stop the spread of disinformation. On May 12, 2023, his daughter Corinne Foxx revealed on her Instagram Story that the Academy Award-winning actor was home and feeling well enough to engage in some physical activity. Hitting back at a report that Jamie was “preparing for the worst,” she wrote, “Update from the family: Sad to see how the media runs wild. My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating.” She added, “In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday! Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support! Jamie Foxx is recovering from an unknown medical issue as of April 25, 2023 (Photo: Xavier Collin/Image Press Agency/Splash News / SplashNews.com) Jamie was admitted to the emergency room on April 11, 2023, his daughter, Corinne, revealed on April 12. “From the Foxx family: We wanted to share that, my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday. Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery. We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time. Much love, the Foxx family.” As of April 25, 2023, Jamie Foxx was still believed to be in a Georgia hospital due to an undisclosed medical emergency, as his daughter explained. It is known that he experienced the medical issue while he was in The Peach State filming his upcoming movie, Back in Action, but was not on set, per CNN.  “They are running tests and still trying to figure out what exactly happened,” a person close to the Just Mercy star shared with the outlet on April 14. Back in Action co-stars Cameron Diaz, and it’s her first since she retired from acting in 2014. She was seen filming after Jamie’s issue, and it’s not clear if he had any scenes left to film before he was hospitalized. How Long Has Jamie Foxx Been Sick? He became ill enough to enter the hospital on April 11, but his daughter noted that he began recovering the following day. “He is healing,” a person close to the star claimed to Entertainment Tonight on April 18. “He feels the love from everyone.” On April 21st, a source told PEOPLE that he’s “OK” after the incident. “He’s OK, thank God,” the insider said. “He’s still in the hospital and doctors are running tests but he’s awake and alert. They’re keeping him under observation.” How Is Jamie Foxx Doing Today? Jamie is doing much better than he was when he was first hospitalized. In May 2023, an insider said that the Golden Globe winner was “stable” following a serious situation. “Jamie is stable and not in a life-threatening situation now,” the insider told PEOPLE two days after Jamie broke his silence on the matter. “[Doctors] are doing more tests and want to be completely sure that he will be okay before allowing him to leave the hospital.” It is important to note that there seems to be a discrepancy between when the source said Jamie was home from the hospital and when his daughter announced he was. Plus, Jamie’s medical team allegedly advised Jamie to “keep his stress level down” once he is discharged from the hospital. The source claimed that Jamie would rather be anywhere else as the hospital is “the last place Jamie wants to be.”

CNN host Kasie Hunt said during her show on Tuesday that the outlet needed to "drop the banner" in order to see why social media users were captivated by the alleged UnitedHealtcare CEO killer, Luigi Mangione."The man accused of killing UnitedHealthCare’s CEO going viral. Images of Luigi Mangione seem to captivate the attention of online masses. The Manhattan killing also uncovering a deep dissatisfaction with the United States health care industry," Hunt said, beginning the segment.Mangione, an Ivy League graduate and 26-year-old software engineer, has developed an online fandom since being arrested in connection with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. "It is deeply troubling that we are celebrating this person who’s committed cold-blooded murder because, you know, he clearly went to the gym," Kate Bedingfield, a CNN political commentator, said. CNN removed their chyron that was placed over a photo of Luigi Mangione after CNN host Kasie Hunt suggested they show why social media users have taken to him. The American people who are online we'll say, is very much on display here. Part of, yes, there’s absolutely a bubbling anger about the inequity in the country writ large and in the health care system. No question. It’s been less than a month since Megan Fox announced that she’s pregnant with her fourth child, her first with Machine Gun Kelly. And now, just weeks after celebrating that high point, it seems that the couple has hit another low. Insiders are claiming that Megan and MGK have once again called it quits. (Photo by Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images for The Recording Academy) Even though these two have been on and off throughout their relationship, the news shocked fans, coming, as it does, on the heels of such an encouraging update about the sometimes-volatile pair. Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly’s Latest Breakup: What Happened? “They broke up in late November,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly on Tuesday. “They were trying to make it work again after the pregnancy, but they are both too hot-headed and fell back into their constant fighting. They can’t get on the same page and it’s not easy for them being together.” The insider acknowledged that this is not the first time that these two have called it quits — and it might not be the last. (Photo by Presley Ann/Getty Images for GQ) “They are done for now,” said the source, before noting that they “could very well be back together” A different insider previously explained to the outlet that despite their ups and downs, Megan and MGK were “both thrilled and excited to be parents together.” “The pregnancy is bringing them closer, but they still have very dramatic ups and downs,” the insider said. “Even when Megan and MGK broke up, they were always into having a child together. It’s something they both wanted even when they were broken up.” Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox attend the 2022 Billboard Music Awards at MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 15, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images for MRC) A History of Breakups It’s still not clear why Megan and MGK split up earlier this year. It was widely rumored that MGK cheated, but Meg later insisted that that wasn’t the case. This most recent split is equally mysterious. TMZ is reporting that the pair called it quits on Thanksgiving weekend after Megan found “upsetting” material on MGK’s phone. Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly attend the 2021 iHeartRadio Music Awards at The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, which was broadcast live on FOX on May 27, 2021. (Photo by Phillip Faraone/Getty Images for iHeartMedia) The nature of said material remains unclear, but you can bet we’re in for another round of cheating rumors! Neither party has spoken publicly about the split, but knowing these two, we’re guessing they won’t be biting their tongues for long. We’ll have further updates on this developing story as new information becomes available.

People walk by a Walgreens on November 3, 2024 in Brookline, Massachusetts.Danielle DeVries | CNBCShares of Walgreens jumped about 20% on Tuesday on a report that the company is in talks to sell itself to private equity firm Sycamore Partners. Walgreens and Sycamore have been discussing a deal that could be completed early next year, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. New York-based Sycamore would likely sell off pieces of Walgreens' business or work with partners, the Journal reported.A Walgreens spokesperson declined to comment on the reported talks. The report comes during a rough period for the retail pharmacy giant. The company's stock was down more than 60% for the year before its climb Tuesday.Walgreens – squeezed by the transition out of the Covid pandemic, a leadership shakeup, pharmacy reimbursement pressure and its wobbly push into health-care – has underperformed Wall Street's earnings expectations for two straight quarters. The company is trying to regain its footing with a new CEO, health-care industry veteran Tim Wentworth. Since stepping into the role in October last year, Wentworth has moved to slash costs at Walgreens. In October, Walgreens said it plans to close roughly 1,200 of its drugstores over the next three years, which includes 500 in fiscal 2025 alone. Walgreens has around 8,700 locations in the U.S., a quarter of which it says are unprofitable. The company has also scaled back its push into primary care by cutting its stake in primary-care provider VillageMD. Walgreens has reportedly been seen as a potential private equity target in the past. In 2019, private equity firm KKR made a roughly $70 billion buyout offer to the company, the Financial Times and Bloomberg reported at the time. This is breaking news.
