Posting due to an emergency- please share widely if you're local to Chicagoland.

If anyone in the Chicagoland area sees this, a friend's service dog prospect is in need of immediate boarding from tomorrow until May 6. Winnie is about 40 pounds and is not dog-reactive at all, but the person caring for her was hospitalized and so my buddy is looking for a short term emergency foster!

I'm available to help with any transportation (you wouldn't need to drive her anywhere!) and compensation+coverage for food/medical/etc. would be involved. You wouldn't need to pay for her stuff, just make sure she has a place to stay and walk her and call me if she needs to go to the vet.

If this is something you or someone you know could help with, please let me know. It's an emergency situation, so for the first time in... well over a year, I am opening my inbox in case this is something you can help with. Please DM me if you or anyone you know can help.

my friend and i were going to study a language together and wound up having to cancel our plans due to scheduling pressures, but! through research we came across a really cool resource for reading in a TON of languages: bloom library!

as you can see, it has a lot of books for languages that are usually a bit harder to find materials for—we were going to use it for kyrgyz, for example, which has over 1000 books, which was really hard to find textbook materials for otherwise. as you can see it also has books with audio options, which would be really useful for pronunciation checking. as far as i can tell, everything on the site is free as well.

shit centered Polish idioms I love:

1. Kręcić się jak gówno w przeręblu - lit. to spin like shit in an ice hole - to not be able to find a place for yourself, hang around with no purpose (and possibly thereby annoy others). Used in context: wyjdź z kuchni, bo kręcisz się jak gówno w przeręblu (get out of the kitchen, you're spinning like shit in an ice hole) - my grandma to me and my cousins, multiple times

2. Stać jak grabie w gówno wbite - lit. to stand like a rake stuck in shit - to stand and do nothing, be useless. Used in context: nie stój jak grabie w gówno wbite, zabierz się do roboty (don't just stand there like a rake stuck in shit, get to work) - also my grandma when she decides she could use some help after all

3. Gówno prawda - lit. shit truth - a lie. Used in context: gówno prawda, że polski jest jednym z najtrudniejszych języków (it's shit truth that Polish is one of the most difficult languages) - me to everyone who claims so

Note: gówno can be used as a negative particle*. Eg, gówno zrobisz (you'll do shit) - you can do nothing/nothing can be done; gówno ci powie (they'll tell you shit) - they won't tell you anything, etc. The verb can change, but gówno has to come first for the phrase to be interpreted as idiomatic.

* gówno as negation seems to take care of the obligatory double negation in Polish when a negative object is present (eg. indefinite pronuns such as 'nic' 'nikt' etc). I don't want to go into too much detail here but there's definitely something interesting going on here.

ah, so it was jack that let him in the second time. that dirty traitor.

barnaby somehow got in the room this morning and since i was already awake and wanted to enjoy my ~*lying down time*~ undisturbed (that is, without a cat climbing on me for ear sucks), i scooped him up and I THOUGHT i shooed him outside

but then i woke up sometime later to find him sleeping above me, so i either had a very vivid dream or did not actually shoo him out successfully, although i swear i did

There is also the chance he was making noises outside the door after i shooed him out and john let him sneak back in. I’m low key mad at john right now for getting me sick. apparently, fever is in the cards and boy oh boy i’m not excited for that day
