Types Of Writer’s Block (And How To Fix Them)

1. High inspiration, low motivation. You have so many ideas to write, but you just don’t have the motivation to actually get them down, and even if you can make yourself start writing it you’ll often find yourself getting distracted or disengaged in favour of imagining everything playing out

Try just bullet pointing the ideas you have instead of writing them properly, especially if you won’t remember it afterwards if you don’t. At least you’ll have the ideas ready to use when you have the motivation later on

2. Low inspiration, high motivation. You’re all prepared, you’re so pumped to write, you open your document aaaaand… three hours later, that cursor is still blinking at the top of a blank page

RIP pantsers but this is where plotting wins out; refer back to your plans and figure out where to go from here. You can also use your bullet points from the last point if this is applicable

3. No inspiration, no motivation. You don’t have any ideas, you don’t feel like writing, all in all everything is just sucky when you think about it

Make a deal with yourself; usually when I’m feeling this way I can tell myself “Okay, just write anyway for ten minutes and after that, if you really want to stop, you can stop” and then once my ten minutes is up I’ve often found my flow. Just remember that, if you still don’t want to keep writing after your ten minutes is up, don’t keep writing anyway and break your deal - it’ll be harder to make deals with yourself in future if your brain knows you don’t honour them

4. Can’t bridge the gap. When you’re stuck on this one sentence/paragraph that you just don’t know how to progress through. Until you figure it out, productivity has slowed to a halt

Mark it up, bullet point what you want to happen here, then move on. A lot of people don’t know how to keep writing after skipping a part because they don’t know exactly what happened to lead up to this moment - but you have a general idea just like you do for everything else you’re writing, and that’s enough. Just keep it generic and know you can go back to edit later, at the same time as when you’re filling in the blank. It’ll give editing you a clear purpose, if nothing else

5. Perfectionism and self-doubt. You don’t think your writing is perfect first time, so you struggle to accept that it’s anything better than a total failure. Whether or not you’re aware of the fact that this is an unrealistic standard makes no difference

Perfection is stagnant. If you write the perfect story, which would require you to turn a good story into something objective rather than subjective, then after that you’d never write again, because nothing will ever meet that standard again. That or you would only ever write the same kind of stories over and over, never growing or developing as a writer. If you’re looking back on your writing and saying “This is so bad, I hate it”, that’s generally a good thing; it means you’ve grown and improved. Maybe your current writing isn’t bad, if just matched your skill level at the time, and since then you’re able to maintain a higher standard since you’ve learned more about your craft as time went on

I stand firm on the idea that most of the 60s & 70s none of the states or Gov actually knew where California was. They're still piecing things together from random comments he makes; they got a timeline built on namedropping now-infamous cults, randomly mentioning hitchhiking to xyz place in xyz year, bringing up marches/protests he was at, and saying things like "the best sleep I've EVER had was the first night back in my own bed after Woodstock '69, that was the fattest nap". They know they could probably ask, but the cork board covered in red string and speculating is more fun.

The high prices in the shopping district this season is a perfect example of why we need competition.

Having only one person to sell blocks and items made all the prices to rises from past years, and I think some Hermit forgot that many of their fellow SMP members can just get the items themselves, meaning their not paying for stuff from the shopping district, which also means theirs less overall money (diamonds) in the economy, because it can be so hard to even find diamonds so people are just getting their supplies themselves, it’s just easier to get everything themselves rather then spending the little Diamonds they actually have.

I’m excited to see how this affects this season as people are already upset about the certificates and the prices aren’t helping

You know those “organization ASMR” tik toks? Y, that’s California’s entire fucking house

His entire house is so ungodly organized to the point where it feels like you’re at an extremely fancy restaurant that charges you before you even eat

His autistic little ass will organize and clean for free. States who have messy ass rooms like Tennessee (idk who posted the hoarder headcannon for him but I’m taking it and running) and throw away shit they don’t need and put everything in neat little areas and put things on shelves or even install shelves or extra storage spaces

He does this shit foe free! He cleans state rooms on a yearly or monthly basis depending on how often the room needs cleaning because he enjoys making everything look neat and ✨aesthetic✨

California will buy things for your room like one of those door shoe hangers or extra storage spaces that you can nail to the wall

Ao3 is actually massively culturally important and very very good at being what it is. I’m so serious when I say that ao3 needs to be protected as the anti censorship, by fans for fans, nonprofit, volunteer run, expertly designed archival site that it is. You don’t have to read or like fanfiction to understand that on principle, ao3 is a site that should be defended.

I hate that planned obsolescence is starting to reach fandoms. I hate that fandoms are starting to die after two, three years, I hate that whenever you stop getting content that means the fandom will die and be gone.

I need people to stop trying to brush off old interests as being 'cringe' as soon as you lose interest, or worse: make it seem like it's imoral to like something that they themselves held so dear before.

Fandoms are meant to last for years and years, the moment content stops being created is the moment we truly thrive because we keep creating the content ourselves the way we love it and expand on the things that are already there for us.

I don't care if you lost interest on something, it's fine and normal even, but stop trying to blame and make fun of people who still do love the fandom and the content and the things we can create.

I need people to enjoy fandom again

-Venus used to have web ears from when he still had water but their now shrivelled

-earth has sharp teeth and is insecure about them, he tends to hide them behind his hand, his afraid the other planets and moons will be scared of him

-Proto used to eat asteroids to gain the different metals to give to his friends

-Earth only had faint memories from when he was Proto, they blur together with his current memories, to the point his not sure which ones are true and what ones are made of jumble pieces of his past

-Jupiter has took up knitting and has made himself a load of grandpa sweaters, as well as making gifts for the other Giants like this fish hat for Neptune!

-Jupiter sucks at fashion and the only reason his not walking around in socks, sandals with a grandpa sweater and cargo shorts, Saturn starts crying when every they see each other

-Venus on the other hand loves styling different patterns together, in my mind he went for dressing like a goddess (past) to a pirate (now)

-Venus and Mars like making Earth rant about his Earthlings during their cards game to distract Earth before they win, Earth has caught on to this but he can’t help himself when the topic is about his life forms
