My work is extremely personal, inspired by ‘moments’ and real-life experiences, and through art I desire to evoke emotions. However, I influence the viewer to have their own perception and relationship with my work.
As I explore in 'An Archive of My History’, art has multiple meanings cast by different people that change and develop over time. Overall, I create pieces that are vulnerable, raw, and open to interpretation. I traveled for 9 months in the last year and I have predominantly focused on photography. I documented my travels over this time and my work reflects the influences of exhibitions and festivals I visited; moody photographs inspired by 'Dark Mofo’ that contrast to the light and vibrant images after visiting 'HOTA: Made is in Surfers Paradise’.
The work of Chella Man has been a huge influence on me as an inspiring Art Therapist. His work is intimate and explosive which perfectly portrays his tumultuous and continuous journey from dysphoria to euphoria whilst spreading awareness around identity. Going forward, this is a theme I would like to explore in my studies and deepen my ability to express my identity, emotions, and experiences through art.

Images of my sketchbook pages where I explored different concepts for the final book. I experimented with different darkroom techniques, Tippex, pens and Photoshop to digitally manipulate my work.

The images above show I was inspired by my Grandma's photobook and family photographs as well as an article, 'Talking pictures: Love and Marriage' for this project.
An Archive of My History

'An Archive of My History' is a personal project formed of a range of different mediums, new and old. It is compiled together in an antique photographic album, binding together memories in the format of photographs, written word and text messages from both my Mother's and Father's sides of my family. These two opposing parts of my life meet in the middle of the book to create my current day.

Intimate series of images taken on 35mm film.
I was inspired by Lee Friedlander's intimate portraits of his wife taken over 60 years.
These images were shot over a month living in Coolangatta, Australia.

San Francisco

Images taken on 35mm in Montara, San Francisco
Inspired by stained glass 'Iris, Lily and Cattail Window' in the De Young Gallery, San Francisco. The light in 'Iris, Lily and Cattail Window' cuts through the top of the piece and inspired me to frame my images in a similar way. In my images, the last light creeps through the landscape and softly frames the subject in each.

Rainbow Falls

Images taken on 35mm film
Inspired by the photography in 'HOTA: Made in Surfers Paradise’.
The images in this collection are vibrant and real, showing their perspective of what it is like to live in the infamous Surfers Paradise, Australia. Subsequently, I wanted to present a snapshot of mine; sun-dappled hikes through the rich green jungles on the East Coast of Australia.

Tasmania

Images taken on expired 35mm film and touched up in Lightroom.
While in Tasmania I went to the Dark Mofo festival which celebrates the dark through a series of public art, light and first installations. This encouraged me take gloomy images and find beauty in the dark.

Sketches of previous images in pencil.

Collage

Freeform Collage
One piece from the collage club which I attend.
In this, I experimented with depth and used springs to literally make John Travolta 'POP' out. I love blending old and new magazines to create a void through time.

Bold Drawings

Inspired by Pop art and graphic work, I created these pieces out of a range of colour pens.

I sketched out different ideas in pencil and coloured them in and then went over the bold lines in black ink to make them stand out.

Wire Fairy
Wire sculpture inspired by Cicely Mary Barkers' Flower Fairies.
This piece is a work in progress, the aim is for the sculpture to hang from a tree in a wooded garden. I plan to place mirrors on the floor to cast more light around the area and give the appearance of the sculpture being in more than one place. I hope that this will give the display a magical feeling.

Necklace

Necklace inspired by the Seven Sisters near where I live.
The white pearls represent the white cliffs while the coloured gemstones reflect the multicoloured pebbles and stones on the beach. The shadow cast by the necklace is jagged with ridges, reflecting the texture and shape of the Seven Sisters.

Portrait taken on 35mm film, in The MET NYC and enhanced on PS Lightroom.
Light is extremely important in my process when taking images, as shown here as the sun elevates this portrait. Large blocks of light are cast over the subject and background, the two compete for our attention and make it a dynamic image. This is enhanced by the contrast of the model's dark clothes and white stone building, making the model stand out.
