So You Want to Learn How to Pole Dance?
Tumblr media
Believe it or not, pole dancing is one heck of a workout. Many of this dance styles roots stem from the circus, burlesque, exotic dance clubs, and traditional Chinese/Indian pole!
However, many newbies of this dance style a lot of the times don't know where to start, so let me break it down for you.
Find a Pole studio you're comfortable with
If you're a newbie at pole, finding a pole studio that suits you is crucial. This style of dance can be very vulnerable for a lot of people considering you are required to show more skin than usual (skin helps you stick to the pole fyi). So finding a studio near you with supportive instructors, fair pricing for your budget, and classes offered are all something you should keep in mind
2. No Pain, No Gain
Pole dancing is very painful on the skin/body. Especially if you're not used to it. Many newbies are not aware of how much friction is involved, bending, and stretching your body is odd shapes and positions. This is a learning curve for all beginner polers but don't fret! Overtime you will build pain tolerance and the calluses needed to withstand the pain ;)
3. Have fun!
Pole dancing for the first time is going to feel invigorating! I remember how I felt when I learned how to control my spins and weave all the moves together and create my first choreographed piece. Just know that just like any other skill it takes time to learn so don't be discouraged if you don't see big improvements. Hell, I didn't see improvements until I was 3 months into my pole journey.
Hopefully your pole journey brings you the joy and strength that it has brought me these past years. Happy poleing!
