eyes  land  on  the  bag  ,  then  the  floor  before  traveling  around  the  room  –  everywhere  except  him  .  clearing  her  throat  ,  she  attempts  to  keep  her  emotions  at  bay  ,  to  conceal  the  hurt  behind  an  undeniably  furious  gaze  .  “  for  how  long  ,  paxton  ?  ”  the  inquiry  is  presented  with  an  arched  brow  ,  arms  crossing  against  her  chest  .  despite  her  demeanor  ,  her  voice  still  trembles  slightly  .  “  are  you  really  back  or  do  you  plan  to  just  disappear  again  ?  ”  swallowing  thickly  ,  she  takes  a  step  back  ,  increasing  the  distance  between  them  .  “  i’d  like  a  warning  this  time  .  ” 

it’s  weird  to  think  about  how  quickly  things  change  ,  that  seemingly  hours  ago  he’d  held  her  in  his  arms  ,  promised  her  an  eternity  together  ,  only  to  leave  without  so  much  as  an  explanation  .  “  sierra  please  ,  ”  he  starts  but  is  unable  to  finish  ,  an  attempt  to  reharness  whatever  emotional  outburst  was  about  to  occur  .  he  knows  how  badly  he’s  cracked  the  foundation  of  something  that  before  he  left  wasn’t  fragile  ,  quite  the  opposite   ,  and  now  he  doesn’t  dare  look  her  in  the  eye  with  the  slight  trembling  in  her  tone  ,  with  the  growing  awareness that  it’ll  only  break  him  further  .  “  i  was  trying  to  keep  you  safe  ,  i  did  this  for  us  ,  ”  it’s  the  only  thing  he  can  say  that  doesn’t  feel  like  an  excuse  .  like  a  slap  in  the  face  to  the  trust  he’d  worked  so  hard  to  build  with  her  in  the  first  place  .  “  i’m  not  going  anywhere  ,  i  promise  .  ”

her  initial  shock  displays  all  over  features  .  for  a  moment  ,  some  semblance  of  content  is  restored  .  sierra  spent  so  many  nights  staying  up  late ,  worrying  about  his  safety  …  but  he’s  here  safe  and  sound  .  however  ,  the  feeling  of  relief  is  quickly  replaced  with  anger  .  he  left  without  a  warning  ━  no  call  ,  no  text  ,  nothing  .  she  was  completely  in  the  dark  for  days  ;  gnawing  the  inside  of  her  cheek  ,  her  eyes  watch  him  carefully  ,  unsure  where  to  start  .  “  you’re  back  .  ”  the  words  expel  out  of  her  more  as  a  question  .  

he  stands  in  the  doorway  ,  unsure  of  how  the  room  their  standing  in  hasn’t  caved  in  upon  itself  .  keeping  her  out  of  harms  way  had  been  the  easy  part  ,  the  difficult  part  was  always  leaving  .  even  if  it  wasn’t  permanent  ,  even  the  thought  that  he  had  abandoned  sierra  ,  was  a  weight  that  he  couldn’t  bare  to  carry  .  but  not  returning  wasn’t  an  option  ,  out  of  all  the  things  he’d  lost  in  his  absence  ,  he’d  hoped  she  wouldn’t  be  one  of  them  .  the  soft  thud  of  his  bag  on  the  floor  seems  to  be  the  only  sound  in  the  vacuum  they’ve  created  around  them  ,  “  i’m  back  .  ”

paxton  ,  this  man  is  so  touch  starved  he  is  constantly  hugging  her  ,  grabbing  her  waist  ,  kissing  her  ,  this  man  simply  has  no  sense  of  boundaries  around  her  .

who  initiates  the  hand  holding  ?

sierra  ,  affecionate  as  he  is  ,  he  simply  isn’t  used  to  like  wanting  to  have  his  hand  held  ,  but  when  she  does  it  he  feels  safe  ,  he  knows  that  everything’s  going  to  be  okay  .

as  much  i’d  love  to  say  both  ,  it’s  definitely  sierra  ,  given  how  high  stakes  his  job  is  and  the  fact  that  he  cheats  ,  it’s  honestly  probably  constantly  tense  when  he  mentions  work  .

paxton  ,  not  only  because  sierra  more  strong  willed  than  he  is  ,  but  he  simply  needs  her  help  with  things  more  often  because  the  lights  are  on  upstairs  but  no  one’s  home  yk  ?  def  asks  sierra  how  to  do  basic  tasks  all  the  time  .

who  is  the  one  always  losing  the  keys  ?

paxton  ,  sierra  def  has  a  place  to  hang  them  up  ,  and  a  little  bowl  by  the  door  just  in  case  pax  forgets  to  hang  them  up  ,  but  he  always  put  them  in  some  out  of  pocket  place  like  the  vegetable  drawer  of  the  fridge  .

who  leaves  little  love  notes  for  the  other  ?

paxton  ,  he’s  out  super  late  most  nights  for  work  so  he  definitely  uses  the  days  that  she’s  out  at  her  gigs  to  scatter  little  love  notes  about  for  semblance  of  comfort  when  he’s  gone  .

sierra  ,  esp  with  pax’s  late  nights  ,  she  probably  tries  to  stay  up  for  him  only  to  be  asleep  by  the  time  he  gets  there  ,  but  he  always  gives  her  a  kiss  on  the  forehead  before  crawling  in  bed  next  to  her  .

paxton  ,  this  man  definitely  has  a  wedding  ring  burning  a  hole  in  his  pocket  ,  always  carries  it  around  waiting  for  the  perfect  time  because  he  truly  does  want  to  spend  the  rest  of  his  life  with  her  .

sierra  ,  def  constantly  runs  her  hands  through  paxton’s  hair  ,  pax  just  thinks  sierra’s  hair  is  too  pretty  to  touch  and  just  stares  in  awe  .

sierra  ,  anytime  paxton  tries  to  sierra  he  def  ends  up  telling  her  after  simple  pleading  and  puppy  dog  eyes  ,  but  sierra  is  way  better  at  keeping  things  under  wraps  to  surprise  him  .

“  you’re  barely  noticing  that  now  ?  you  really  are  dense  ,  ”  she  playfully  rolls  her  eyes  ,  stifling  laughter  to  not  entrench  herself  further  into  him  ,  futile  attempt  to  keep  him  at  arms  length  ,  if  such  thing  existed  for  them  .  even  in  private  she  was  worried  about  the  outcome  ,  worried  that  she  might  find  herself  buried  so  deep  in  love  affection  she  might  never  be  able  to  breathe  again  .  and  here  she  was  breathless  as  he  asks  to  know  more  .  “  isn’t  the  whole  point  of  this  to  keep  secrets  ?  ”  she  questions  with  a  raised  brow  .  the  more  he  knew  the  more  vulnerable  she  would  become  ,  and  once  he  knew  the  brick  that  topples  the  tower  ,  he  would  have  her  .  “  i  hate  you  less  than  my  parents  that’s  for  sure  .  ”
