the ribbon seals most defining feature, their stripes, take 4 years to develop!

here is a short timeline of their development 🦭

adorable white coat ribbon seal pups. this baby fur is called lanugo.

after around 1 month pups will start shedding their baby fur to reveal a grey and silver coat

young seals with their grey and silver coat

then, the juvenile seals with start to develop their stripes over the next 3 years. they grow stronger with each moult, females can reach sexual maturity before they have fully developed stripes. this mothers stripes aren’t fully there yet.

once they’re 4 years old a ribbon seals stripes will have fully developed.

male and female are easy to tell apart by their coat colour, the males will have bold black and white stripes

whereas the females have more brown/beige/silver stripes

here's exactly how to get each item that unlocks dates in the newest update for everyone else who's having a hard time. These may not be the only ways to get them but these are the only ways I've personally seen work so far

The Bathhouse Date is unlocked via the Saturday Market, it's sold by one of the new vendors so you must complete the Story Quest for the two new vendors. It is sold for 100k

The Park Date is unlocked by mining dig spots around The Eastern Road (where the Carpenter's shop is), as far as I'm aware, it can be any dig spot there, it doesn't need to be within the park

The Gem Cutting Date is unlocked via the mines, I've heard that it can be unlocked by mining gems, but I unlocked it was via a chest within the mines so I'd say try both

The Beach Date is unlocked by fishing on the beach, as far as I'm aware, it doesn't matter what fish you go for, so just fish up anything until you get it
