Core Course Week felt like a really long time ago...and well, that's probably because it was. So forgive the delay—here's an overview of my Short Study Tour in Western Denmark:
Pedersborg Kirke church in Sorø—over hundreds of years this church has gained several additions, making it much larger than it was originally in 1250 AD
Art piece in the Sorø Kunstmuseum in Sorø—the museum is a combination of the original structure built in 1832 and the modern addition built in 2011
Århus Umdomsbolighus in Århus Havn—an example of sustainable modern student housing
Dinner with the group at Grappa Piccolo
Århus Krematorium Kapel by architect, Henning Larsen—simple and beautiful, this chapel is about how the light inspires divine contemplation
At the rooftop of the Århus Rådhus, by Arne Jacobsen and Erik Møller, with Ashely, Tonya, and Kate (studying Interior Design at Pratt Institute)
Admiring the architectural thesis work by the students of Arkitekt Skole in Århus
Section cut view of the Rainbow Panorama at the top of the ARoS Museum (by Schmidt, Hammer & Lassen) in Århus—naturally Rosanna and I had to take a lap around the circle and take a video simultaneously showing our faces change color with the color screens reflecting on us
What's a study tour without the piggyback photo tradition?!
View of the lake at where our hostel was located in Skanderborg at dusk
Group bonding by the bonfire (and yes, s'mores were involved)
Favorite place on the study tour—the Trapholt Kunstmuseum by Bente Aude & Boje Lundgaard in Kolding—Rosanna and I could not stop talking about all of the beautiful details and spaces both in the exterior and interior of this museum, plus it had a killer Danish chair design exhibition (only a few of the chairs are shown in the picture above)
Koldinghus in Kolding—this site was a precedent for my first interior architecture assignment since it dealt with a new modern structure meeting an existing historical structure; shown above is my favorite room in the building

Sometimes our bodies (yea, the ones used to California and Hawaii temps) can't handle the cold like we want them to and we get sick and we need to drink tea and hot cocoa and eat big bowls of fruit.

Nestled in Nørrebro, the neighborhood where my kollegium is located, Nordic Noodle is a cozy spot to satisfy an Asian food craving with a local Nordic twist. You are able to choose from a simple variety of noodles, meats, vegetables, and sauces to make your bowl unique. I went for the egg noodles with chicken, broccoli, mushrooms, onions, and their special Nordic oyster sauce. Lækker! (Delicious!)

Dansk Arkitektur Center in København is currently exhibiting a collection entitled Life Build Cities. The collection examines architecture that serves as a beacon for their respective cities in that they use public indoor and outdoor spaces to embrace the urban environment. The exhibit was AMAZING.
Pictured above are some photographs I took.
