Wow. So Kelsey and briggiefan and others on twitter lost their shit over the fact that a lovely Irish woman, who works a monday to friday job (in Ireland), got a bus (on a weekend) to a film festival (in Ireland) to attend a ticketed event in which Nicola was speaking. This lovely woman then took herself to the pub for a cheeky pint post-event, without attempting to speak to Nic because it's the Irish way to give people space in that way (even if it would have been reasonable to go up and say hi). Oh no, how terrible. They're claiming this is an unhinged act. They're inciting unjustifiable fear that being an attendee endangers Nic's safety. By this logic, I suppose these clearly jealous people must think every single person in that audience was committing some atrocity by being there. I suppose they have never bought a ticket to attend some event in the arts. Not a single concert, musical, play, book launch, film premiere, comedy set, art exhibition, ballet, poetry reading, film festival or panel. That sounds rather sad. Or if they do currently hold tickets to any upcoming Arts event, I suppose they had better cancel them, because hypocrisy is a remarkable shade of The Blues, and it glares even harsher when you are unkind.

So the crazy cult thinks that Nic losing 15k followers is because of being more public about her relationship with Jake. No, it's way more likely - I'd put money on it being probable - that those followers were hardcore JKR supporters and transphobes. Nic wouldn't care about the numbers. She wouldn't care about the "loss" because she wouldn't want a bar of those people. She would only care that there are 15k more bigots in the world spreading hate to innocent people.

The people criticising Nicola for having Jake at the event, because in their eyes, it puts the attention on him instead of her, really need to pull their heads in. Having one's partner at an event doesn't make that woman NOT an independent strong woman. Feminism is about choice. Feminism includes letting women fully inhabit all the aspects of their lives simultaneously. In this instance, an award nomination and a partner. One does not negate the other. By them saying she should hide her partner, THEY are part of society putting unfair pressure on women and trying to shackle their autonomy. Especially since Jake is a gentle soul with emotional intelligence who doesn't embody the alpha male toxic masculinity. Nic has found someone she can be teammates with and I'm so happy for her. I support them as individuals and as a couple.

Nicola not only looking stunning but i'm so proud, she deserves this award and much more. Her speech on her advocacy, regardless of the risks, her father being her inspiration, is so beautiful and makes me admire her even more. So much love for her today. It was so sweet to see so many fans there for her and to see even journalists behaving like fanboys and fangirls. So much love, so proud! I will always support you, Nicola. We love you.
