THE POLAR TANG | Part 1/2
I mentioned in the author’s note of The Peculiar Perils of Straw Hat Parties that I was working on a design for the Polar Tang for that fic (and any subsequent fics involving Law’s submarine), and as I get ready to publish chapter 3 here it is, as promised! Click to enlarge/view higher res versions.
(well, at least here are the decks relevant to chapter 3: decks 0, 1, and 2. Decks 3 and 4 will come with later chapters, once I’ve had a chance to complete them)
Please let me know if there are any problems. Thoughts/comments appreciated!

Only now realised Doflamingo has TWO guns on his person (or either has someone hand him the standard flintlock he uses to kill Barrels which is such a mafia thing to do). Either that or the anime team made a mistake in colouring in #706 (I doubt it, bcs both scenes were in the same episode)
1. The standard flintlock

When it's BUSINESS. (Only time he used it for personal reasons was when he used it the first time - this IS the gun he used to kill his father with, ie the gun Trebol gave him.)
2. His golden plated flintlock
(fun fact, Celestial Dragons are shown having this gun, which fits for Doflamingo)

When it's PERSONAL.

Thought process was:
1. Law deserves to get really high and just chill out for once
2. That would be the funniest possible time that Cora reveals himself to be alive

The famous sunflower field of Dressrosa was a gift from the Tontattas to the Riku dynasty. The Tontattas beautified the island with flowers and foliage galore once freed from slavery after the abdication of the cruel/mad Donquixotes to Mariejois centuries ago.

Pictured above, Doflamingo’s great great great something grandpa enjoying interacting with his subjects as Donquixotes are want to do.
Family tradition runs strong doesn’t it?
But because of this, I would like to propose that even though the sunflower is still synonymous with Dressrosa and is very beautiful, that it is not Doflamingo’s personal flower of choice.
I’m voting for Doflamingo’s actual representation and favorite to be the pink spider lily. It looks like it’s creating the birdcage on its own here below. They are also very tall/thin on their stems and poisonous (if you eat the bulb). In some cultures this lily is associated with death and the underworld. It can be considered unlucky to actually give them away as a bouquet. A beautiful curse like the deranged man himself.

except that for law, there was someone there with him this time. the hospitals might not have helped but cora was there and trying to save him.
in flevance all help and hope for it abandoned him completely.
cora might not have succeeded at getting him treatment until they had the op op no mi but when law says cora saved his life he’s not talking about just that, he’s talking about someone proving to him over and over that they’d give a shit and try to help him no matter the cost.
cora brought law back into the social contract.
didn’t just save his life physically but also saved him from becoming like doffy, from forever believing that the world and everyone in it was fundamentally his enemy, that there was no point in helping anyone, that everything you could do for another was just an exchange between people trying to achieve their own goals.
aka doffy’s ethos, which we do still see crop up in law’s attitude when he’s separated from his crew.
cora gave him back his life, his freedom, and gave him a path towards a future *because* he gave law back the ability to form bonds with other people, gave him back his access to his own heart.
and that’s why cora’s image is all over the heart pirates, they are medics, one of the most fundamental aspects of the modern social contract, the idea that we want to and must help each other when one of us is sick or injured.
six months of failed hospital visits and cora was without maybe realizing it demonstrating care, over and over again, to a child who had had the capacity to believe in true care, the most fundamental aspect of the social contract, burned out of him by the world government itself, to the point where he would indeed have been an excellent right hand man to doffy because he too wanted to destroy a world that had hurt him so deeply in turn.
cora saved law’s life in so many ways, and part of it was the fact that he managed in 6 months to undo most of not only the damage the flevance massacre itself did to law, but what 2 years in doffy’s care while believing what law did about the world and what he wanted to do with his time left in it did to law’s psyche, his heart.
and in just 6 months?
that’s a miracle, rosinante.

THIS WAS DIABOLICAL TO DO. I actually started crying when I saw this.

Reminds you of sth?
YEAH.
ABSOLUTELY.
DIABOLICAL.
They're on the same side, too.
ABSOLUTELY.
DIABOLICAL.
My "I have PTSD from Cora's death" activated when this happened.
And you want to know sth?
This was all the animators idea. This scene of Doflamingo aiming at Law like this in this angle and this wide shot was NOT in the manga. This was the genius animators idea.
Once more a round of applause for the Toei animators, everyone.
Excuse me while I go scream and cry.
@fanaticsnail @moonbaby26 @veroinfaciem @tuquidflamingo @queenmimi2817 @ohnomyhooves @saracrossing02 @daydreamer-in-training
bcs if I'm crying, I don't want to be alone.
