We brought home a second cat for a trial adoption to make sure that he and our resident cat will get along. The only thing they told us to do was to rub each with towels and give the towels to the opposite cat and keep them in separate rooms for at least a week. They also told us to do supervised meetings until we think they can be alone. Does it usually vary on how long this may take or should we expect no more than a week to figure out if it鈥檚 going to work or not? We love both of these cats but the resident cat hissed and meowed at the new one as soon as she saw him after smelling the towel and didn鈥檛 seem to mind it. They鈥檝e been totally separated since. Any ideas would be much appreciated! via /r/cats
