australia has had a grand total of zero mass shootings since gun laws were reformed after a massacre in 1996.  that’s twenty fucking years with absolutely ZERO mass shootings.  how can you be THICK enough to think that a change in gun laws won’t be effective? what’s it going to take?

this wasnt just lgbt people. it was lgbt latinxs. last night was “latin night” at the nightclub. this anti-lgbt hate crime is heavily racialized. dont ignore that

To every straight person who has ever said “But what about straight pride?” or who has ever thought that the LGBTQ movement ended with marriage equality, I want you to understand that my people are being attacked. My people are dying. My heart breaks for all of those who were at Pulse in Orlando last night. These people were targeted for simply existing in the world as who they are. All my love goes out to those survivors, families of victims, and ALL of my LGBTQ* family out there. You are all in my thoughts today.

Our hearts go out today to Orlando and the lives that were taken in this awful act of violence. There needs to be more justice for LGBT people not just in the United States, but the entire world.

This isn’t just another shooting. 

This is now officially, with over 50 casualties, the worst mass shooting in United States history. And the fact that it took place at a gay club was not merely coincidence. This was not just another act of senseless violence in America. This was a hate crime. 

A man walked into a safe space for the LGBT community with an assault rifle and lined them up and slaughtered them. 

Don’t do what the media is inevitably going to do. Don’t erase where this happened and who this happened to.

When you make your statements for/against gun control, remember this was a hate crime. When you make your statements about the gunman’s reported religious beliefs, remember this was a hate crime. When your politicians make empty promises about changing the way things are, remember this was a hate crime. When you make your statements about the media’s coverage of this, remind everyone this was hate crime. 

Do not gloss over the identities of the victims. They were killed for them. This was a hate crime.

So how many innocent people exactly have to die at the hands of a shooter before America decides having guns may not be the best idea?

this kind of hate and violence is why loads of people are in the closet. this is why being in the closet is completely fucking valid and never ever something to be mocked or criticized for and why coming out is one of the bravest things you can possibly do in your entire life so please for the love of everything stop telling people they have to come out or they’re lying, being open about yourself is brave and good and important but keeping yourself safe is all of those things too

lets remember that the pulse nightclub shooting was an act of homophobic violence. it was a hate crime. the media is trying to downplay the fact that it was a gay bar, but it was one of the most well-known in orlando and if a shooter wanted to specifically target LGBT people, this is where he would have gone.

the shooter could have gone to any other club. he chose pulse for a reason. please keep the victims of this horrendous shooting in your thoughts.
