“  yeah  ,  i  was  here  writing  earlier  and  working  on  some  sounds  and  then  visited  my  brother  but  then  i  got  hungry  so  i  went  to  get  some  food  ,  and  now  i  have  too  MUCH  food  and  i  could’ve  gone  home  but  now  i’m  back  here  and  ––  you  know  the  rest.  ”  she  laughs  softly  ,  giving  the  bag  a  soft  wiggle  .  “  so  ––  it’s  a  long  story  but  i  think  i  accidentally  used  my  ...  fame  ,  i  guess.  i  wouldn’t  really  call  it  fame  but  ,  anyway  ,  they  accidentally  gave  me  the  wrong  order  and  it  wasn’t  a  huge  deal  but  they  got  like  ,  weird  and  insisted  i  take  extras  and  a  new  order  on  top  of  the  wrong  one  ,  so  ,  now  i  have  about  everything  on  their  menu  and  i  am  but  ONE  cosima  chase.  ”  she  speaks  ,  shrugging  her  shoulders  .  “  it’s  chinese  takeout  which  ,  yes  i  do  know  is  bad  for  you  ,  but  i  have  also  considered  that  it’s  delicious  and  from  the  best  place  in  la  .  you  know  ,  in  my  unprofessional  opinion.  ”

on her lunch break and never one to waste precious steps, emma had been walking around the cadence halls for nearly half an hour now. she was seldom disturbed on her walks, besides for the occasional wave from a friendly passerby, and the silence was enough to have her daydreaming. she was jarred, quickly and startlingly, from her thoughts of springtime and incessant mental loop of nightmarish one-hit-wonder ‘mmmbop’. although she jumped, she should have been thanking cosima. “no,” emma replied timidly, gaining a foolish grin at the prospect of eating food other than microwaved ramen. “condition implies that eating with you would be a bad thing. i’d be thrilled to have an excuse not to eat in the studio. i’ve been taking pictures of a new band’s recording process all day. a bit of a nightmare, really. they keep yelling at the producer for not making them sound like nickelback. i didn’t know anyone WANTED to sound like nickelback these days. to each his own, i suppose,” she mused, fumbling through the bag. “what’ve you got today?”

 at  the  first  response  ,  cosima’s  expression  shifts  to  a  frown  .  shes’s  sure  emma  has  a  good  reason  ––  maybe  she’s  busy  ,  but  as  cosima  goes  through  all  the  reasons  emma  may  have  denied  her  request  ,  the  other  adds  on  and  her  facial  expression  returns  to  a  smile  ,  relaxing  from  her  sudden  ANXIOUS  state  ,  despite  the  fact  that  she  was  SURE  the  other  would  have  a  good  reason  .  “  well  ,  maybe  not  a  bad  thing  ,  but  i  didn’t  know  if  you  were  busy  !  ”  she  counters  ,  a  smile  on  her  face  as  she  heads  somewhere  AWAY  from  the  studios  to  sit  and  eat  with  her  friend  .  “  ....nickleback.  of  all  bands  they  want  to  sound  like.  nickleback  ?  ”  she  laughs  out  a  LAUGH  ,  shaking  her  head.  “  i’m  calling  the  girls  right  now  and  telling  them  that  we’re  changing  our  sound  to  mimic  nickelback  and  only  THEN  will  we  be  a  true  band.  ”  she’s  laughing  again  ,  shaking  her  head.  “  chinese  takeout.  sesame  chicken,  orange  chicken.  about  fifty-two  million  egg  rolls.  maybe  soup  ?  i  honestly  don’t  know.  they  just  starting  putting  a  bunch  of  things  in  bags  and  apologizing  for  messing  up  my  order.  it  wasn’t  even  a  big  deal  !  ”  she  sighs  ,  a  soft  smile  on  her  face.  “  you’re  more  then  welcome  to  anything  in  the  boxes.  ”

naveen is… not procrastinating, but recharging his brain. perhaps it’s in the form of watching netflix on his phone but that was his prerogative. things were a touch tense in the studio over creative differences, so he’s happy to take a breather. when cosima walks in, he pushes his headphones down around his neck and smiles. “ h e y,” he offers a lazy wave. “ oh, no actually. ” he takes the bag, stomach suddenly grumbling. “ that’s a condition i’m HAPPY to meet. ” naveen pauses, an eyebrow quirking. “ did you accidentally get extra or were you looking for someone to cheer up today ? ” 

 “  PERFECT  .  i  was  HOPING  that’s  what  you’d  say  .  ”  cosima  ,  proclaims  ,  happily  letting  naveen  help  himself  to  the  extra  food  in  the  bag  .  she  was  naturally  happy  ,  naturally  kind  ,  but  in  this  case  ,  he  just  happened  to  be  in  the  right  place  at  the  right  time  for  cosima’s  good  deed  of  the  day  to  be  inflicted  on  him  .  “  i  did  actually  accidentally  get  extra  !  i  actually  feel  a  little  bad.  ”  she  starts  to  explain  ,  sitting  next  to  naveen  .  “  i  ordered  mine  and  it  came  out  wrong  ––  but  i  wasn’t  trying  to  complain  !  i  was  going  to  just  take  it  but  they  insisted  that  they  fix  it  ,  but  it  didn’t  seem  like  they  were  that  friendly  until  they  really  paid  attention  to  me  .  i  think  this  was  the  first  time  i  think  they  did  it  because  they  knew  who  i  was  .  which  ,  not  necessary  ,  but  i  gave  them  a  big  tip  so  hopefully  my  moral  compass  is  okay.  ”  she’s  RAMBLING  ,  but  that  wasn’t  uncommon.  “  did  you  need  cheering  up  ,  though  ?  is  everything  okay  ?  ”

“well that hardly seems fair.” ale didn’t look up from the contract she was working on, her pink highlighter gliding across the white sheet. “im doing you a favor by making sure your food doesn’t go to waste and i have to keep you company?” she replaced the cap on her highlighter with a sharp click before turning to finally look at cosima, a small smile on her face to let the other girl know she was just teasing. “but im nothing if not philanthropic. i’ll sit with you i guess.” 

 her  eyes  squint  ,  trying  to  grasp  ale’s  tone  .  “  technically  ,  i’m  giving  you  free  food  .  i  could  just  leave  it  in  the  staff  fridge  and  i’m  sure  someone  will  steal  it  .  but  instead  ,  i’m  giving  it  to  you  and  you’re  giving  me  lunch  company  !  it’s  a  win  all  around  and  YOU’RE  complaining  about  it.  ”  she  catches  on  quickly  to  the  teasing  ,  through  in  her  own  tease  right  back  at  her  ,  getting  all  the  food  open  on  the  table  and  passing  a  paper  plate  towards  ale  ,  making  sure  to  keep  it  away  from  her  contract  despite  the  lack  of  food  on  it  just  yet  .  “  you  can  take  whatever  you  want  .  chinese  takeout  is  always  ...  way  too  much  ,  so  just  take  a  little  of  anything.  ”  she  smiles  ,  sitting  down  at  the  table  with  her  own  plate  .  “  how’s  work  going  today  ?  ”
