Everything the republicans are doing is undoing the work of democrats. Yall would rather sit there on your flat asses and make these weakass centrist takes than actually have the courage to face what is happening with clarity.

I feel like a lot of people don’t quite get what a butler is. The role tends to get rounded off to ‘male servant’ pretty regularly in some media, whereas actually butlers are typically not just servants but chief servants. The butler was generally in charge of either all male servants or just all servants, period, in the household of an aristocrat or other very wealthy person. This meant that butlers have often been fairly powerful and influential people, and sometimes even had a manservant or two of their own.

(Also, fun fact: Mary Roberts Rinehart, the early 20th century mystery writer who is widely credited with popularizing the whole ‘the butler did it’ trope was nearly murdered by one of her own servants, a chef whom she had passed over for promotion to butler. He came at her with a pistol, but it jammed, allowing her chauffeur time to wrestle it away and restrain him.)

Made this point in the replies, but I think it’s worth stating in a post: even outside outright doomerism, the attitude that pervades a huge tranche of the media and online spaces these days is that the hip, canny attitude to the world is that everything is fucked and will only get much worse before it gets better, if it does at all. If climate change doesn’t kill is, late at age capitalism or the water wars will kind of thing.

And I think that’s deeply fucked, bordering on evil. That attitude reinforces despair, inculcates a sense of helplessness, and instead of motivating action fosters cynicism, low trust politics, and reactionary attitudes. You should kill it within yourself when you notice it surfacing and push back against friends and acquaintances who express it online or in person. The people who encourage you to think that way, whether they do it on purpose or not, are your enemy. They are the shadowy figure in the dark robes whispering in your ear. Don’t fucking listen to them!

it's crazy that sexism can even affect animals. the way people assume all dogs are boys. the simultaneous way people will get genuinely really mad if you dare mistake their pretty princess for a boy despite the fact all german shepherds look the same. the refusal to buy pink toys and accessories for male pets. i recently met someone who insisted they never adopt girl cats because they're always meaner than boy cats. i feel like im losing my mind. they're literally cats.
