there are years worth of files under the name [ keith kogane ], now detective kogane. a thorough analysis is conducted, skimming each and every file that seemed noteworthy–– especially ones where he is raised to a higher standard than others in any faction he’d been placed into. it’s rather intriguing, he notes, that there are always mentions of disciplinary action needed in many instances, especially ones where he’s undermined. detective kogane won’t tolerate others questioning his competence when it came to his job, it seemed. it’s his stunning ability to overcome the odds against him that is particularly intriguing ( another thing he thinks will make them work well together ).
it’s somewhat irritating, however–– the way his new partner deigned to make him wait to hear the details of their new assignment... he does understand, however, that their partnership is not something he’s made aware of and likely would be averse to in the first place. eyes narrow when he scrutinizes the ways his preconstructed meetings with the detective could go up until he finally makes his appearance inside the captain’s office. his expression remains stern, fixed on the efficiency of completing their new assignment.

“ i made a bad call, and i deserve the blame for it. ”
𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 │ @lnstinctalone
his LED had been cycling through a bright, worried yellow for quite some time– even as they’d sat together in silence for the majority of their time together. richard is reminded of the fragility of humans, even when they bolster their supposed strengths through reckless actions far beyond his own range of prediction. in the end, if he isn’t fast enough, if he isn’t strong enough, it’s keith that suffers ( much like the way he finds himself temporarily bound to a hospital bed ). his expression is one of displeasure– both at hearing him take blame for something far beyond his control and for the damage keith’s sustained in the process. it’s useless now, he realized, to reconstruct the endless ways that scenario could have ended without so much as a scratch on his partner, but the shame in his own lack of diligence burns through his core and he continues to replay that scene over & over again. richard briefly considers saying nothing at all, but all at once there’s an intense understanding that silence can be far ‘ louder ‘ than any noise.
❝ there was nothing more you could have done, ❞ it’s his honest belief, and yet watching him throwing himself into the fray as if he weren’t breakable ( HUMAN ) caused him a discomfort and even agony he never knew was within his ability to feel. icy, arcane eyes flick to the multitude of bruises blossoming over the expanse of keith’s skin and those that have ravaged his perfect features. there’s a moment where his LED flashes a dark, harrowing red when he considers that if either of them is to blame, it is himself. ❝ i won’t hear you blame yourself. i should have protected you. ❞

“I was lost before I even knew I was lost. The typically transient nature of a dream — it was the polar opposite here in the Nightmare City. The Wraiths, or the lost souls of people who had become trapped here, floated about mindlessly as I ventured deeper into the dark.“
