This same logic assumes that fag is some sort of gay male equivalent of “dyke” or other similarly reclaimed term for wlw, but this completely disregards the history and political reality of what a faggot materially is. 

Simply put, not all gay men are faggots, something which has been made increasingly evident in the push toward assimilation, and conversely, not all faggots are gay men, but rather, what they/we are is a product of recouping the failures of cultural hegemony which is inflicted on specifically camab bodies. 

Imperialist Man is always seeking to define his other because through this other, he sees an opportunity to demonstrate his superiority. In wide swathes, he deploys tools like misogyny or ethnic supremacy to articulate himself above those he sees as competition, but necessarily these divisions become more and more esoteric as he finds himself needing to subdivide his own in-group with the same intent. 

Thus, he constructs concepts like “sanity” or “class” and of course the very act of performing masculinity itself to find new ways to separate himself and place himself above others, and he finds means to utilize each of these in order to consolidate and reify his position.

What I think doesn’t get talked about nearly enough is how common it is for straight men to seek out those they have deemed “faggots” whether twinks, femboys, or trans women they have fetishized as such, for sex, often victimizing us in the process. I have been subjected to this. Tons of people I know have been subjected to this. And it is largely because of what it represents in their imaginary to fuck or sexually assault a faggot that they do this.

This is not the same thing as “corrective rape” which is its own wicked manifestation of imperialist male chauvinism because it does not seek to correct the faggot’s sexual behaviors, but to more deeply instill them, with the express intent of reducing us to something which provides an easy source of sexual (and from what I can tell from the experiences I’ve shared, emotional) labor.

This also bears some resemblance to the machinations of misogyny, but what is key here is how it relies on not just our total dehumanization, but also our total invisibility from public life. Not fit to be wives or mothers, we exist to be an easily kept secret, conditioned to just be thankful for the privilege of being desired, and thus all too willing to go along with all this.

And granted, this is merely the picture as it exists as an ideal in the Imperialist male imaginary. We now do indeed become wives, or husbands, or partners generally who are openly embraced by our counterparts, but as we are seeing, this is a cycle which can be observed to repeatedly recede, and we are seeing that happen now in our own time -- which is why I’ve felt compelled to speak up about it rather than just log off forever as I had previously wanted.

I can’t control anyone’s language, if trans men want to call themselves “fags” I will lose literally zero sleep over it, but as the milieus we find ourselves in start to become discontent with how the faggots are asking a little too much, being a little too loud, taking up a little too much space, and we are inevitably driven out, it won’t be the trans men calling themselves fags who are being thrown out with us.)

Feels great to log onto this blog after not touching it in ages to find out a post I made, like, five years ago has been gotten 500+ notes and counting, attracting fucking t3rf attention, and the deepest irony is its all bc a blog called “transmisogyny-explained” felt the need to resurrect a post about an almost decade long discourse argument instead of, I dunno, writing their own?

Ironic because, like, I don’t even believe in “transmisogyny” as a meaningful framing for the type of oppression we face anymore. It’s a relic of third wave cis feminism which sought to explain the diversity of gendered oppression through the lens of “intersectionality” which was taken, co-opted, and warped until you get a phrase that, frankly, does more harm than good!

Like, it first assumes our oppression comes from the fact we are at the intersection of transness and womanhood, but like, this completely overelies on our own subjectivity -- we aren’t parsed as women, that’s part of the structure of the oppression! “Real” women are spared the microaggressions and outright violence, not because we are women, but because we are parsed as something else entirely. 

Secondly, it assumes transness is both a meaningful and cohesive identity category, and that it itself is somehow a major locus of oppression, and surprise surprise, but this framing benefits almost exclusively transmasculine people, who are able to obfuscate their relationship to manhood and masculinity while also exploiting the emotional, intellectual, sexual, and physical labor of trans women behind the veil of “trans solidarity”.

Simply put, by framing things in terms of “transmisogyny” we are utilizing the political tools of a politic which has always, and will always treat us as an accessory to its broader political intentions which are rooted in bioessentialism and white supremacy, that is to say, “feminism”.

Any political framework wherein your inclusion within that framework is up for debate is not one which serves the needs which such a framework should. That the “radical” wing of feminism is largely defined by its militant opposition to our very existence should be enough to give us pause to think why exactly we feel obligated to answer its rallying call.

However, feminism has laid claim to all spaces wherein we exist, seeing queerness and transness as its handmaidens, existing as the perfect breeding ground for opportunity to demonstrate the nobility and charity of the feminist mission. In return we exist in borrowed space on borrowed time. When push comes to shove, time and time again, the roots of feminism which have wound their way into each of these spaces reveal their ugly bioessentialist face, going from being a politic of “women” to a politic in service to cafabs exclusively, regardless of their gender expression.

To have them tell it, it would seem like no space is informed by a feminist politic, that so-called “patriarchy” (which recent years have demonstrated is also for girls(tm)) means that all social dynamics are structured along patriarchal lines which of course exist to benefit camab people, and to exploit cafab people, including those within so-called “queer” spaces.

We have even been drawn into replicating this faulty logic, seeing the main threat which transmasculine people pose is because of their connection to masculinity, but as anyone who has ever experienced the power dynamics of male assignation can tell you, actual, meaningful participation in masculinity requires more than a simple declaration of gender.

No, the threat lies in how feminism’s white supremacist and bioessentialist roots empower and embolden them to function with the same exploitative aims as their cis male counterparts, and this goes for cis women in these spaces as much as it does for transmascs and cafab enbies.

Furthermore, by using a term like transmisogyny which is inseparable from this political logic, it means that cafabs will always have a means to co-opt the politics we build around it, making the rise of concepts like “transandrophobia” inevitable.

So then if not transmisogyny, what? Well, to me, it’s perfectly clear.

“Trans woman” is itself a term which is inseparable from our current political situation, but it is a clear manifestation of a phenomenon which goes back to the very roots of western civilization. 

In antiquity, we may have been called catamites or eunuchs, but modern parlance has delivered us a succinct term which lays bare how alive and well this concept is today: faggots.

Simply put hierarchical society is not built around inclusion; white supremacy does not exist primarily to serve whites, but to harm PoC; patriarchy does not exist primarily to serve men, but to harm women. What I mean is that, within each of the exploiting categories formed by these institutions of bigotry and oppression, there still exists the impetus to divide, so that an ever narrowing subset of people end up in authority. Thus beyond race and gender, class, physical fitness, intellect etc etc become new ways to further divvy up the ruling classes. 

Faggotry is the result of this system which operates to subdivide the category of “men” into “real men” and “failed men” or faggots, but it does not stop there. Because faggots are not simply failed men, as effectively non-men, they become subaltern to the class of “real men”, but having already demonstrated to lack the qualities which constitute “real” manhood, and not possessing the reproductive capacities of “woman”, the faggot has, historically, served a role of sexual and emotional labor for the class of men, something which continues to this day.

“Trans woman” is merely a way this has bubbled up in the current political landscape, alongside queen, femboy, camab enbie, twink, etc etc etc. We are “failed men” who looked at the cultural legacy called “womanhood” with its accompanying mythologies and committed to that more directly than our other counterparts, but feminism’s machinations have lead us to believe in this idea that we are somehow equivalent to “real women” which we are biologically incapable of because, despite all our very rich discussion on the notion of gender and sex as social construct, this has done little to shift the reality of how bioessentialist notions of sex and gender force themselves upon us every second of our lives.

And there is nothing wrong with seeing oneself as a trans woman -- I still do! But I think it is important that we acknowledge that our main inclusion in society is as faggots, and we are punished as faggots when we attempt to assert agency or independence, both by “real” men and women because it is our docility and willingness to serve which has historically been the reason why our presence is desired or even tolerated. 

Transmisogyny is a relic of cis women’s feminism’s claws dug deep into our hearts and minds. Recognize that the transhistorical struggle we face is anti-faggotry. Abandon the absurd notion that other camabs who are not “real men” are somehow your enemy. We are not suddenly parsed as women by our oppressors when they go to oppress us. We are all being subjected to the same violence for the same reason, we are faggots who desire autonomy and agency, so it has been for centuries, and it is no different now.

Reject Feminism
