The long winter

Long and hard winters were nothing for him, despite his metal interior it did little to slow him down. In some ways it reminded him of home, and in others it couldn't take him further from it. The heat had been his home for so long now, watching and protecting fire ruler after fire ruler. Rarely did he have a chance now to feel the frost against his face, see his breath or make a fire to keep him warm.

Since Ellie had been training with the Lin Kuei, the duty of commanding the two armies fell on his shoulders. It was nothing new and he had no trouble commanding respect, however after so long it had grown tiresome. There seemed to be a calm now, and for this short reprieve he would take to his primary duty of guarding his ruler.

He sat on a fallen tree, one leg bent and the other stretched out. Dark brown fur draped over his large frame, making him appear to be a bear from the wrong angle. A sigh left him as he spun a twig between his thumb and index finger before putting it in his mouth to chew on.
