no i absolutely agree! especially in the new teaser/spoiler for the newest chapter, takano looks so happy and giddy to be with onodera. he finally feels secure and loved and cared about. i just love them sm 🥹

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but i wholeheartedly love that Takano looks softer in the newer chapters and artstyle

I don't know, i feel like he's just happier, more relaxed and less stressed, like as much as his relationship with Ritsu, he's healthier

i really enjoy the beginning chapters of sekaiichi hatsukoi for its humor and characters and intro but i think the chapter of takano’s birthday (ch8) is when it truly picks up and becomes so heartfelt.

the whole time the reader is taking all of this in from onodera’s perspective which is highly skewed and self-deprecating. we’re left to wonder along with onodera if he is just being dragged around and played with again. but this chapter opens a side of takano i feel was initially guarded beforehand.

along with onodera’s pov, we’ve also gotten flashbacks of their hs days where his faulty memory seems like saga was a horny teenager who rushed into sex and also didn’t share his emotions with him cause he was using him.

this further accentuates his constant self-deprecation of how he’s wondering if he’s getting toyed with. not only that, but yokozawa keeps repeatedly telling onodera that takano is his and that they’re dating. he continually sees how close takano and yokozawa are, going drinking together, hanging at their apartments, and getting birthday presents for each other. one of the most striking words from yokozawa imo is “showing up now you may have his attention, but don’t be full of yourself.” in the car ride, onodera laments how yokozawa would know how to talk to and make takano happy instead. the only real hint of takano possibly being serious is yokozawa mentioning that takano fell into a depressive state in college due to finding out onodera had a fiancée.

even then takano doesn’t seem trustworthy himself. he said that he’d make onodera say he loves him again, but what does that mean? throughout this whole time he’s an antagonistic boss with some soft moments. in private he says he loves onodera and never could forget about him, but his actions remain forceful and ambiguous which reinforces onodera’s trust issues and fears.

takano, despite his words and what we find out later on, is heavily guarded at this point and keeps his love mostly to himself/ talking to yokozawa in fear of getting hurt again. ofc there’s still parts shown of his insecurity like his jealousy at the library.

but his birthday shifts the perspective. at the party he is accused of being a player (again) but stands firm that he’s loyal. on his birthday instead of spending the day with yokozawa he drives with onodera. he smiles at onodera, saying he wanted to see the beautiful lights and snow only with him. they play in the snow, and when onodera confronts him about his relationship with yokozawa instead of flat out denying anything he admits and confesses they had a fling way back when, but he had drawn a line a long time ago. and after that, he confesses to onodera that he had fantasies of how they would spend christmas with each other back in hs. he dismisses it as a childish fantasy, probably smth he used as a way to heal his pain after the breakup, but when onodera reciprocates he realizes that wasn’t childish at all and it was real. something that onodera fantasized about himself because his love for saga was genuine and real.

then the series opens him up little by little and ugh i love all the scenes where it’s from his perspective and thoughts.

tldr; this birthday chapter is the first time i think takano slightly opens up about actually being serious with onodera and isn’t just playing with him for nostalgia-sake.

on a kinda related note i love how takayashi mentions to chiaki that on their fourth year of college hatori rushed into a relationship with a woman who had made a pass at him. at that point chiaki had already dropped out and iirc their friendship was becoming weaker and hatori had stopped mentioning each time his romantic life.

like that just makes me think that rushing to get a gf and not telling was kind of a desperate attempt to provoke any kind of jealousy into chiaki, and when chiaki didn’t find out/was perceived to not even care, hatori ‘lost hope’ in a sense that chiaki had any feelings for him.

I find interesting (emphasis in interesting) that Hatori had sex with other men before Chiaki, while Yuu's first times with a man are with Ijuuin.

But also, having that knowledge, makes the scene where Yuu is being like "I'm pretty good at it (sex)😏" with Chiaki so fucking funny. 0% experience, 100% confidence. He probably did a quick search on how to have sex with another man and called it a day.

Was it confidence, desperation, a mix of both, or a secret fourth thing that made him say that to Chiaki?? "I'm a man, just like him, so, of course I'll be good at making him feel good", "It can't be that different from having sex with a woman" klsengsekn I really want to know what was going inside his head in that moment. (But I also love imagining a bunch of stuff nslkegns) // Shifting to Sentiment below And also, it's really funny how Ijuuin has condoms and lube in his house, while Yuu doesn't. Although, at that point of time, it's been a while since Chiaki rejected Yuu.

Do you guys think that Yuu had condoms and lube when he tried to force himself on Chiaki? (unlikely, because the novel where that happend is old, so anything as lube and no condoms (but it's also fun to fantasize, so let's follow that train of thought)) → But he got rid of them, since he no longer pretended to use them??

But also, why did Ijuuin have those things in his house? It's also been a while since he accepted Misaki's rejection. Was he too lazy to throw them away? When I was rewatching Sekaiichi with my sis, she was like "ofc he dated someone with that name (Hoshino), so he could tell her that she misheard him if he ever moaned "Yoshino" instead of "Hoshino" 🤨🤨" kslenglksn

after getting the urge to rewatch all of junjo terrorist i wanted to write my analysis of miyagi and shinobu’s main dynamic of maturity and immaturity.

miyagi is 35 years old and already has his life sorted out. shinobu’s adult life is just started with thinking about college entrance exams.

miyagi initially rejects shinobu partly because he thinks he is immature and foolish for liking someone 17 his senior and a man. however, he can’t help but see himself in shinobu. he fell in love with his homeroom teacher in high school, where he was dismissed by her until before she passed from her illness. even though he was young and he was called foolish, his love for her was genuine and he ultimately became afraid to love again due to the heartbreak of losing her. he dons on a mature role, however deep inside he is very vulnerable and guarded using his sarcasm and snarkiness as defenses.

shinobu on the other hand rationalizes his crush as destiny. from when he would eye miyagi in the library, from when miyagi saved him, when they became brother-in-laws, until miyagi’s eventual divorce. even though part of him knows it’s crazy, he loves miyagi and believes it is fate. he almost got over him when he escaped to australia, but once he heard about the divorce he began thinking once again it must be destiny. even though destiny is partly childish rationalization, it is also a declaration of love and how serious and committed he is. he hates being young and seen as immature by miyagi even though his feelings are genuine. he wants to grow up quickly and become mature so miyagi will see him more as an equal and accept him, but he doesn’t know how to go about it and hates himself for it and his inadequacy. he’s always been attractive, smart, and good at what he’s done naturally so he hasn’t cared about anything until miyagi came into his life so he doesn’t really know what to do.

together, shinobu adds excitement and new love into miyagi’s life when it had become dull and lets go of his fear of loving again. for shinobu, miyagi eventually shows shinobu that he doesn’t need to grow up fast or act mature and instead he is loved for who he is. even though shinobu is perceived as immature through his stubbornness and impulsivity, he is also highly emotionally intelligent and able to chip at miyagi’s mature, defensive walls. miyagi is forced to confront his own feelings at shinobu’s bluntness and in turn miyagi is allowed to forgive himself for moving on from his teacher and love again without fear.
