018. an otherwise empty parking lot . for Corvus (if you still taking it)
detroit's cold trace leaned casually against the sleek hardened black luxury sedan, a flickering glow of his cigarette burnt against a cold november night. corvus' predatorial gaze, sharp & calculating, tracked every fiber of her existence as it moved across the empty parking lot; her steps were quick, self-conscious, easily instinctive of someone who did not trust their own shadow maybe. there was something almost predatory in the way he dissected her silhouette, like a wolf sizing up its due morsel. corvus shared a smile. the five men surrounding him, all dressed in tailored suits like business boys, spoke in low tone brimming with conspiracy, their hands slumbered casually on quiet firearms tucked beneath their jackets.
he knew who she was — an important piece in a rival mafia branch, someone with connections that could either be useful or problematic depending on how this night unfolded. as his lips took another drag from the worn-out cigarette, he decided to make a move.
in her impending arrival to her car, corvus pushed off the vehicle & began to approach, his movements smooth & unhurried. those behind followed suit whilst any idle died down. he flicked the cigarette to the ground, crushing it under his heel as he prepared to make his move. ❝ lovely night to be spending on your own sweetheart, ❞ the devil's smile dared not wane, ensuring that his gracious countenance looked almost alluring than concerning. ❝ it's almost terrible to see you on your own. ❞ it truly was, after all, such an important asset traversing all alone? it almost looked like a setup.

↪ 𝑩𝑼𝑹𝒀 𝑴𝑬 𝑾𝑯𝑶𝑳𝑬 . ( a collection of lyric starters from the band dead poet society . feel free to adjust phrasing as necessary . )
i know you said you’re busy at the moment , but i think you’re lying .
i want you to give me a reason to leave .
you don’t get it , do you ?
you use me when you need a hit .
what's it cost for a minute of your heart and soul ?
my state of mind’s been steadily dropping .
might as well just hold my tongue , it’s nothing you would understand .
i don’t really know myself .
thoughts of you are racing in my mind .
oh , you had me for a moment .
you took it out on me when it got hard .
i know you’re mocking my name .
i don’t understand why i’m so afraid of who i am .
i’m done . i’m leaving .
no , you don’t care anyways .
take me home .
if this isn’t love , then i’ll stop now .
take your coat , don’t get cold .
you never loved me . you didn’t want me .
give me something real .
god , it feels like i’ve been here before .
i feel like we’re drifting apart .
i never loved myself like i love you .
maybe you could help me .
i heard your friends say that you think you're better off .
you’ll never understand .
i’ve got enough friends .
i’m finding it harder to fit in .
why are you afraid to die ?
it’s nothing you would understand .
god help you , darling .
tonight it’s hard for me to care .
can you swear i’ll be yours ?
baby , it’s too late to talk .
you say that you love me but you never could .
there's nothing more that i'd like than to be yours for life .
i don’t wanna go out tonight .
i thought that i could trust you .
i’m leaving you cause the pain isn’t worth it .
don’t pretend to love me when you’re feeling alone .
run your mouth like you do so well , you did this to yourself .
i love you . don’t ask why , it’s just because i do .
i know you’re mine .
you feel so lovely when you touch me .
you don’t wanna change .
i’ll say the words and you’ll listen .
you don’t love me .
who am i to hold you back ?
i need to know the truth .
why’d you have to say it ?
i’m running out of time .
the self - loathing comes and goes .
fighting is doing no good .
fuck it , just drive .
have you been here before ?
no , you think i’m fucking lazy .
baby , i swear i tried .
i’m dying to see you again .
i’m finding it harder to feel brave .
don't make me feel like i did this all wrong .
something in your eyes just gives it away .
it’s only in my head , but it’s not gonna change .
hit me up anytime you want .
maybe you could show me another way out .
we should go before i change my mind .
i know you’ve seen it but you’re not replying .
fuck you , anyways .
who am i to hold you back from finding someone who can love you like that ?
tell me what the fuck you’ve done , i’ll wait .
i’d rather stay here and wait .
i think i might slip away .
i’m so scared that all of my worst fears have followed me out here .
i swear it’s all about to change .
tell me it’s hard being you .
i know i’m sounding crazy .
oh god , i need a change of pace .
i’ve got enough friends , nobody else needs to know my name .
i don’t think you realize just what you do to me .
i can’t help but overanalyze .
you think you can demand respect ?
i’m mad at myself .
you did this to yourself .
i know you’re probably over it , but i’m not there at all .
i really wanna get away for the weekend .
i’m tired and i’m fucked up .
you don’t know what i’m feeling .
standing here , i know i’m home .

❝ the truth is, warden, ❞ ethan's gated walls came undone, let it be due to some mutual professional trust or because that somehow, someway, yue came across as dependable. our detective's spent voice carried a touch of weariness, ❝ this case in particular… it’s more than just another file on my desk. it's becoming almost personal at this point. there’s a thread here that ties neatly into this killer whose eluded me for months. this prisoner, this guy might hold the puzzle piece, or he might be just another dead end. ❞ cautious is his gaze that seeks to steal a gander from the warden, gauging for any reaction that surprisingly enough does not manifest, though he keeps his own expression carefully neutral. the detective knew the importance of keeping his cards close to his chest, after all, everyone has always an agenda hidden & especially in a place like a penitentiary.
footsteps once heard as a solid resonant cadence transfixed into a refined, lightening melodious tone of marble. ethan ceased accompanying yue any further, pausing just outside the cavernous maw leading inside the black garden building. ❝ i chose this hour because i need clarity. no distractions, no interruptions. just me, the prisoner, & the lead. i’m not here to waste my time, or your time. i need answers, & i need them now before someone else is killed. ❞ there’s a hard edge to his tone, hinting at the plausible exhaustion of options.
his pause brought an opportunity for the sound of the rain to fill in the vacant small gap between them. the whole experience hinged on the warden's capabilities, & in good honesty, in ethan's eyes he had proven already to be an impeccable host. the detective's gaze dared not vacate the warden's countenance for even a second's worth ❝ so yes, your assumption is correct. this case is dire, & i would appreciate to just talk to the prisoner as soon as possible. ❞
❝ 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐇𝐀𝐒 𝐀𝐋𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐘 𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐀𝐂𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐅𝐎𝐑, 𝐃𝐄𝐓𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄. 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐑 𝟎𝟓𝟑𝟗𝟓𝟕-𝐀𝐂 𝐈𝐒 𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐋𝐘 𝐒𝐄𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐄 & 𝐀𝐓 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐀𝐋, 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐘 𝐓𝐎 𝐁𝐄 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐑𝐎𝐆𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐃, 𝐁𝐔𝐓 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓, ❞ glancing over at the officer near, yue's free gloved hand reaches up & retrieves the umbrella from him; ❝ panie mariuszu, niech pan da znać personelu że detektyw chase już jest i nie będzie mnie na stanowisku przez następne dwie godziny. zastępujący naczelnik już wie o tym i zajmie moje miejsce. ❞
❝ tak jest, panie naczelniku. ❞ the younger man immediately salutes & spins around 'pon the heel, in practiced motions marching straight back to the towering slab of concrete & steel. yue turns back to ethan just then, shifting the umbrella over his soaked head. ❝ i've taken into consideration the time of your arrival mr. chase, & made the necessary arrangements to ensure your safety & comfort here at the black garden. before we proceed, please allow me to accommodate you. follow me. ❞
slowly budging from the spot, the warden begins to walk all the while shielding them both from the rain, its bulleting drops pounding loud & heavy against the umbrella's canopy like little rough chunks of diamonds; a most oppressing sort of weather, but not entirely unexpected. the black garden penitentiary is located in the middle of a dead zone, after all. there's nothing here for thousands of miles. nothing but withered trees, mud, & an ocean as vast & bleak as the weeping sky above. those who once sought to run on the wings of freedom have found nothing but further hopelessness & despair. ❝ if i may ask, detective, ❞ yue speaks up gently, his silvery eyes looking straight ahead as his lips shift against the cotton material of the medical mask, ❝ since you insisted to visit today & at this rather... unconventional hour, am i correct to assume that this case is quite dire? ❞

——— the detective arrived at was easily noticed as an abandoned house in brownsville, brooklyn, all within the heart of a neighborhood notorious for its crime rates. the moon's pale light cast long shadows across the crumbling brickwork, while distanced houses with prying eyes done little miracles on settling down nerves. ethan's chestnut eyes, sharp & alert, scanned his surroundings with a criticality. the higher-ups had specifically requested his presence for this unusual assignment, suggesting something significant about the case he'd like to assume. adjusting his coat, with disheveled hair falling into place, he approached the front door with a gut feeling that something just wasn't right.
with a deep breath, he reached out & slowly coiled his fingers on the rusty doorhandle. the door creaked ominously as it was pushed open, revealing behind it an interior shrouded in darkness. the air inside was thick with must & decay.

share a headcanon for both, ethan & corvus: what is their major bad habit?
corvus has developed & deeply ingrained a habit of constantly underestimating those he deems inferior to himself. his arrogance, fueled by years of challenged dominance which he personally won against, leads him to believe that few can match his intellect or pose any real threat to his empire.
this habit shows itself in subtle ways — dismissing advice, overlooking minor rivals, or brushing off concerns from those he considers less intelligent than himself & might potentially waste his time. he sees most people as pawns in his game, assuming that only those at his level are worth his actual full attention. while this arrogance hasn't led to any major setbacks, it’s a trait that shapes how he interacts with others, making him more isolated in his decision-making. it would be easy to imagine how shocked his expression would be if someone, someway, had an upper hand on him in a critical moment.
ethan has developed a dependency of relying on stimulants to keep himself sharp & focused. over the years, long hours, sleepless nights, & sacrificial pursuit to elevate in his field have taken a toll on him, & he started using caffeine along with stronger prescription drugs to maintain his edge. what started as a way to push through exhaustion has now become a requirement, something he tells himself he needs to function at his best. though he's aware of the complications that stimulates bring to the table, he brushes off any concerns by convincing himself that he simply can quit anytime.
consumption of stimulants have started to affect him in subtle ways — his temper has shortened, his ability to connect with others beyond professional terms has further deteriorated. those close to him notice the changes, the way his hands sometimes shake, or how his eyes have lost some of their warmth, but ethan is too stubborn to admit that he might need help.

058. a lavish , invite - only party . - [for Corvus, please. Harmony could also be a guest there or work as a waitress or at the party’s bar.]
detroit's cold trace prowled through the lavish party with predatory elegance, his every step commanding attention & respect. those vivid ocean kissed eyes found solace on the young woman across the room, the one pretending to blend in with the elite. the stagnant man beside her, almost begging for her attention, was nothing more than a an eyesore — an obstacle corvus had no patience for. with a swift, calculated push, he shoved the man aside, his physical strength being undeniable & unapologetic.
clearly the stranger barely had a time window to react prior to corvus' loyal enforcers emerging from the crowd, escorting the unneeded addon away as if the fool had never mattered. corvus didn’t even spare him a glance , his attention fully on the woman who, despite her quaint & elegant disguise, was clearly out of her depth.
he knew she was an undercover cop, but the game amused him nonetheless — & in his world, amusement was reason enough. ❝ so, tell me, do you always bring that much intensity to a party, or is it just for me? how about we skip the formalities & find something more... entertaining to do? no need to pretend. ❞

“We need to get out of here , come on .” - for Ethan, please.
❝ wait, ❞ our detective is no religious man, let alone a believer that something more exists once anyone's eyes seal forevermore; not tonight, not in that situation, ethan was beginning to believe & such uncertainty rattled the very foundation of essence. as harmony steeled herself to exit the bedroom, our detective immediately vice gripped her wrist in order to hoist her in. ❝ it can't smell us. it works on visuals, sounds, so pipe down. ❞ his voice whispered each command, ensuring she understood that disobeying them meant a direct confrontation with that — thing.
outside in the long hotel corridor it prowled. the latest victim of the ritualistic sect moved with predatory grace, each contorted limb letting its body move close to the ground. guttural breathing, wild eyes darting in every direction, it searched for them whilst displaying animalistic tendencies. ethan hid behind the door whilst harmony stayed on the opposite side, & frankly, he couldn't close the door without causing unnecessary noise. our detective removed his handgun from its house, disturbing its slumber by releasing its safety.
a single finger pressed against lips, one last warning to ensure she did not make even a squeak.

019. the shady bar of a noisy , dark club .
the bar was dark & noisy, the kind of place where shady deals were made & trouble was never far away. the detective moved through the crowd, his eyes took a gander for a relatively important informant. he didn’t have much to go on — just a face from the photo in his jacket. he avoided stains from old spills, he was getting accustomed to the thick air brimming with smoke & the smell of cheap liquor. ethan ordered a whiskey in order to remain inconspicuous, his gaze sweeping the room as he tried to match faces to the one he was looking for. he knew time was running out; the crime syndicate had already put a target on the informant’s back.
as he took a sip of his drink, he noticed someone at the far end of the bar, half-hidden in the shadows, glancing around. they looked like they could be the one. he needed to be careful — approach too fast & he could scare them off, too slow & someone else m ight find them first. gripping his glass a little tighter, ethan stayed at the bar, waiting for the right moment to make contact, hoping they’d take a seat next to him.

the air in the rundown apartment complex was thick with the stench of neglect, mix of stale sweat, cheap drugs & faint traces of piss. ethan moved quietly through the dimly lit halls, his footsteps were as light touch as a feather that pressed into grime-covered tiles. walls once vibrant with life were now crumbling, barren, graffiti-covered relics of a city that had long since forgotten its people. figures slumped in dark corners, their hollow eyes reflecting the flicker of neon lights that bled through any crack on walls b windows, these people were lost in the haze of whatever substance they could get their hands on. prostitutes eyed him warily, sensing he wasn’t there for what they offered, while others, too far gone, paid him no mind.
ethan's advanced optics scanned every ounce of detail, every crevice, searching for a cold trail of the religious fanatic turned cyberpsycho he’d been hunting. the scenes of carnage left behind were enough to chill even a seasoned officer — ritualistic symbols carved into flesh, bodies twisted in grotesque poses. as he reached a corner leading into a makeshift bedroom, his optics caught movement ahead — someone was there, just beyond the shattered remnants of a doorway. without hesitation, ethan drew his firearm, its cold steel feeling like an extension of his will, & aimed the barrel steadily at the figure.
❝ don’t move, ❞ he ordered, his voice low but commanding. his optics quickly ran a scan on the individual, data flooding his vision — v, the name came up, along with a brief but detailed criminal history. whoever this person was, they weren’t just another lost soul in the city’s underbelly. ❝ identify yourself, now. ❞ ethan demanded.

youngjae's countenance, his silhouette, his candid smile, they all swam in the abundance of corvus' gaze; the predator whose covenant graciously opened its cavernous doors to a stranger in hopes of keeping him 'till death, or betrayal, tore them apart. korean practice had never been a suit understood to detroit's fiend, therefore as youngjae bowed, corvus raised from his seat, unafraid of whatever youngjae's subordinates would have thinked. ❝ you're a funny guy, you know that? that's why i find important to keep people like you near, people who know how the world spins. ❞ last words spoken before corvus decided to take action.
as corvus suddenly moved to place an arm around youngjae's shoulder, the tension in the room spiked, both parties’ subordinates instinctively began to reach for their firearms. yet, before any weapons had been drawn, the room's tension settled when they realized corvus’s intent wasn’t hostile in nature. with a casual, yet confident motion, corvus draped an arm & fur coat around youngjae’s shoulder, pulling him in with familiarity of old friends strangely enough. his touch was firm, not overbearing. ❝ come on, let me walk you to your car. ❞ corvus' lips curled into a devilish smile, potentially being the most pleased from both parties.
as they moved toward the exit, their subordinates quickly sprang into action, understanding the unspoken command. one of corvus’s men swiftly stepped forward to open the door, while youngjae’s team moved ahead to ensure the path was clear. by the time the two leaders would reach the elevator, it would already been waiting for them, doors open and ready. outside, another pair of subordinates would ensure that the car engines for both parties were rumbling warmly.
"connections," he repeated, nodding. certainly, he'd be very... pleased if corvus took over los angeles in the long run and he could just keep this... relationship going. if problems were to arise and he had corvus's backings, that would be immense, since b56 was going to split apart once the boss died. nobody wanted to be ruled by youngjae, some lowlife from the streets that made his way upwards by beating other's bloody and succumbed to the own drugs he sold. even he sometimes thought he'd been quite shameful, more so for his people. "americans also think they can hit big by committing to 5 jobs, then losing 3 with no social system to catch them, so they just end up in debt and under the bridge." he would never understand this country.
he tilted his head at the man's next words. they could create something wonderful together, sounded almost like a dream come true. his gaze went up to one of his subordinates, handing him the glass of whiskey since he couldn't bother drinking it. "you have big plans and i would be... delighted to take part, corvus. i look forward to working with you. be assured you have my trust and my expertise... and if i may ask for something in return." youngjae pursed his lips into a thin line, considering his favor and how to word it. "if someone else from my group, or the split factions, contacts you, feel free to ignore them. it will be me personally from now on."
he stood up from his chair and walked over, hands in the air to show he meant no harm. "whatever you want of me, i will see to it. then one day you can show me how deep you go all in." a small smirk appeared on his face before he bowed slightly, the usual for him back in korea and japan. he did have a lot of respect for corvus and his upcoming plans, he didn't mind showing that.

ethan has a peculiar habit that sets him apart from other detectives: he never closes a case file, no matter how thoroughly it's solved. instead, he keeps every file open on his meticulously organized desk, as if each one is still active. to him, every case — no matter how seemingly resolved — is an ongoing story, with the potential for new revelations or hidden details that might surface later. this practice stems from his belief that the truth is never fully revealed and that even the smallest overlooked detail could hold the key to understanding something able to aid on the search for his mother.
ethan’s colleagues often find this habit eccentric if not exaggerated, but it’s also what makes him an exceptional detective. he routinely revisits old cases, sometimes years after they've been closed, and has a remarkable track record of uncovering new evidence that others missed.
