DISABILITY
14K posts
This blog is meant for every disabled person. Whether your disability is common or rare, whether you have many comorbidities or none, and no matter what type of marginalisation, we aim to include posts and be able to answer questions about your situation. We realise this isnt an easy task, but we will do our best to get there. In order for us to be inclusive, we will try our best to tag, close caption, describe images as well as space and and tl;dr texts. Please let us know if we can make anything more accessible to you. The ones advising the content have many disabilities and marginalisations, listed here. If you want a particular advisor to answer a question, please let us know. I call them advisors since they dont have the spoons to moderate the blog regularly, but are my absolute closest friends and are happy to help in particular cases. Currently looking for moderators, more information on that can be found here.

i’ll say it a hundred times because some of you need to hear it a hundred times but the trick to liking yourself again is learning new skills and hobbies or returning to ones you had. it makes you so confident learning new shit all the time.

We all know what erectile dysfunction is but literally no one is ever taught what vaginismus is and it can cause people to feel extremely lost, broken, and cause people to take their own lives. Raise. Awareness.

what draws me to decay i think is how utterly it rejects dichotomy. it comes from both within and without; it's the mechanism that forms the clock counting down the days until we die, and it finds its way back to itself inside the body through inertia and opening. rot is a connective force that reaches out to itself through us, and rot is a destructive force that pulls everything apart, literally and metaphorically. to exist is to be marked; to be stained indelibly. to touch is to accumulate that stain and spread it. corruption is the tie that binds and the teeth that fray the cord between them until it breaks.

disabled people are worth the extra effort it takes to accommodate them. it's worth going the longer route together that's wheelchair accessible. it's worth the time and effort to research places to eat that work with specific allergies or food intolerances. and it's worth the price if those places or that food is more expensive. it's worth going further to buy something gluten-free or nut free or dairy free for your party or get together. it's worth adding extra travel time, or planning an overnight stay instead of a day trip. it's worth learning how to administer medication for people who need it. it's worth learning how to call ahead to check if somewhere is accessible. it's worth the whole friend group going to the film screening with captions even if only 1 person needs it. disability often means having to do more work, more planning, take up more space, more money, more time. it's false to say it's as easy as having an abled companion, but that effort is worth taking. it's not wasted because it's all spent in favour of a disabled person, and that's always worthwhile

Obviously im fine with self diagnosing do ya thang however some self diagnosed autistic people have a really mystical idealistic idea of what an autistic “community” is going to entail and I fear for when they realize any group of autistic people is not going to be solidarity club for sensitive souls it’s probably going to be a group of people being kind of rude to each other at all times and playing dnd

Genuinely I think repeatedly making "I'm so brave for (doing mildly uncomfortable thing)" jokes is actually really building my resilience, because when I accomplish an actually difficult task I'm then suddenly euphoric and then chasing the high of accomplishing more tasks.

The real thing with ADHD is not "I forgot", but that forgetting is this ongoing process. I remembered! And then I forgot.
At ten this (hypothetical) morning I remembered that I have a meeting at six. And then from 11 through 3 I worked on other stuff and had zero thoughts about that meeting. Maybe even thought about what I was gonna do with my evening at home. Got attached to the idea of taking the time to make a good dinner, maybe play some video games.
And then at three I said, "Oh! Fuck!" and remembered again, hopefully long enough to set an alarm. And then I went to the bathroom and remembered that I need to clean the counter and spent twenty minutes cleaning the bathroom and went to get a snack and then at five I said, "OH! FUCK!" and had to scramble to dress like a real adult and get out the door.
It isn't one clean forgetting. It's a constant process of forgetting and then, with an exhausting adrenaline spike, remembering. And then forgetting. Baby, I can forget the same thing more times in a day than you ever forgot your parents' anniversary.

“A pop can tab opener? Who needs that?”
It’s not for you.
“Why would anyone get a hairdryer holder, just use your hands to hold it.”
It’s not for you.
“Portable collapsible stools are proof of how lazy this generation is getting.”
It’s not for you.
“A chord assist for a guitar? Why don’t people just user their fingers like everyone else?”
IT’S NOT FOR YOU.
Fun fact! Not everything is about or for you!
