Glaringly obvious political commentary aside, and the in universe story/lore is yet to fully reveal itself, but what I REALLY sank my teeth into with this show was them doing commentary again on their relationship with their own work. Gerard has talked about how the fame that came with the black parade and the pressure to follow it up and stick to the aesthetic was extremely traumatic, and now here they are doing it all again as essentially reanimated puppets with no free will. They forced that jacket onto him to make him dance, killed him when he stoped behaving, and then made him do it all over again. Amazing.
