Inej = (this one is so obvious to me), etherialki specifically a squaller, it would help her with her acrobatics, and the whole her seeing her wings thing and air people. She's just such a squaller, its perfect

Wylan = corporalki, (again might be a bit brutal) he trained himself to be more of a healer after reading up about medicine and the brain, and he wanted to try and figure out a way to get rid of his dyslexia so his dad would love and accept him. Also after his mum got sick he studied and tried to train himself to heal his mother. Then after/during SOC he was learning more to appreciate his powers and love himself.

Matthias = etherialki, (this one could hurt again) he'd be an inferni, when he was young he learnt to hide it but on the cold fjerdan days he kept his family warm. Then after his family was killed and he saw powers like his used to murder them, he learnt to further hate his powers and surpressed them and then joined the drüskelle

Kaz = etherialki specifically a tidemaker because (I read a fic with this one and it just fits so well, but this is kinda brutal be prepared) thats the reason he surivived on the barge and it made him resent his powers.
