Gabriel was looking at him. He was glad when it seemed like Sam had fallen asleep. “Good.” He said. He stroked his hair. “Rest well Sammich.” he went to the kitchen to make Sam some soup for later. He wanted to take care of his hunter.

He wasn’t sure how long he’d been asleep, or even if he was really awake now, because what started as a regular dream shifted into the cage with Lucifer, and then suddenly Sam opened his eyes and he was in his own room. 

Instinctively, his thumb dug into the palm of his hand until it drew blood. It had been years since the last time he had hallucinations like that, surely it had to be a nightmare, but it still left Sam nervous as he scanned the room, half expecting Lucifer to pop up any second.

Gabriel was looking at him “Well get some rest then.”He said gently. “You need it, “ He wanted to make sure Sam wasn’t going to overwork himself. “You don’t need to worry about things for now. JUst focus on getting better.” He wanted to make sure that Sam stayed in bed.

“Fine,” Sam muttered. He was still upset he’d had to stop when he’d gotten so close to a lead, but Gabriel was right. He hadn’t been sleeping properly all week and it’d left him in rough shape. 

The hunter rolled onto his side and shut his eyes, resting his head on the pillow. He was so exhausted that it was only a matter of seconds before he was fast asleep.

“Your body needs the rest Sam, Its not good if you force yourself too much.” He worried about his health.  Gabriel sat down and he reached over and he felt his forehead. “Do you need anything Sam?” he asked. He was hoping that Sam would get better soon.

If he wasn’t so out of it Sam would have complained that Gabriel was scolding him like a little kid, but as it was he didn’t have the energy to argue. 

“No, I’m fine...” He was far from fine, but surely he’d feel better after a few minutes hours of sleep.

Gabriel narrowed his eyes “Bedtime Sam before you fall down. You need to lay down.” he was concerned. He knew the Winchesters were stubborn men. He did wonder what Sam thought he had to prove. “Come on, You can work on that later.” He knew Sam had said the same thing mere hours ago. He wished he could have got to him to bed sooner. He tried to take Sam to his bed. “You need some rest.” He chuckled “Not sure why you and your brother have to be so stubborn.”

Sam let out a frustrated whine, but he reluctantly let Gabriel pull him away from the computer screen. “I’m not stubborn,” he muttered. 

He leaned against the archangel as they walked, flopping onto the bed as soon as they made it to his room. Without work to focus on he was starting to realize just how awful he felt, and he groaned quietly and closed his eyes. 

It felt wrong to be taking a break now, but his body was screaming for rest.

//There’s a lot of points in the show where characters refer to Sam as ‘the smart one’ and a lot of people seem to accept that as canon but honestly? Sam’s a dumbass sometimes asdfgh

Also I think some people try to make Sam and Dean (but especially Sam) out to be pure and good just because they’re not evil but come on, they’ve done some fucked up shit. (I’m still not over them locking Jack in a box wtf? I wish the old Bobby was still around because someone needs to chew them out for that and they wouldn’t listen to Cas ;; )
