[Image ID: Digital illustration of ARC Trooper Echo post- Star Wars: The Bad Batch finale. He is casually standing while wearing ARC Trooper Fives' armor. Fives' helmet is tucked under his left arm. End ID.]
inspired by k8s_space's fic new armor, old memories because the concept of echo taking fives' armor had me sprawled out on the floor o|-<

Echo, baby, this is why we love you
Probably my favorite line in the finale, it's so simple but so powerful coming from him. Honestly kinda amazing that we got such a nice full-circle wrap up to his cross-series arc (especially after he was sidelined all season)
I was sad about not seeing as much of him when he left the Batch in season 2 of course, but I could never be mad because it was a choice that just made so much sense for his character. Seeing him fighting alongside Rex, rescuing Howzer, freeing all the clones in Tantiss, it’s just so clearly where he belongs. He’s been through so much and he’ll never stop fighting for his brothers

Alright, I'm in a mood so I'm gonna make a post I've been wanting to make for a while. I'm not interested in proofreading at this time. I'm aware I've been rambling a lot lately and it will happen again!
Everyone, including myself, yaps on and on about Wrecker's emotional intelligence, which is all great and true, but I think we all need to remember he also is just...smart. I don't think we're to blame for forgetting, even the show forgot it most of the time.
I know that most of his intelligence is tied to his role as the demolitions expert, but we really need to dissect what that means and entails.
He knows everything about every type of bomb/ordinance, including how to arm and disarm them. I don't think working in explosive ordnance disposal or being an explosive engineer is easy. I just went through the wikipedia page for bomb disposal and it's a LOT. There's so many different types of tools and equipment. Can you imagine all that being translated in the Star Wars universe which 100% has more dangerous types of bombs? Other than understanding electronics in general, he also needs to know electrical engineering, math (apparently arithmetic and algebra are really important to EOD work), chemistry (esp in Star Wars, remember in TCW when that guy made Blue Shadow Virus bombs? not to mention biological warfare in general and deadly chemical reactions.), and apparently EODs need to know how to build bridges, build shelters and build roads, so he knows structural/general engineering as well.
And here's the kicker- HE HAS TO REMEMBER AND RECALL IT, TOO. Every structure of a bomb, every way to arm and disarm, he has to remember and recall it all in what we know is highly stressful environments. He has nerves of steel. He either does his job correctly, or he (and sometimes, others) are dead. There is no room, ever, for mistakes. (This is why I got so angry a few weeks ago when he forgot plan 55. He has never been shown to forget a plan/code before that, and imo, very out of character)
So it's no surprise, then, that he's somewhat of a mechanical engineer- remember when he built a hand-held tank? The show didn't! He did that within minutes while being shot at, without a back up plan. When they saw the electric staff thing on the ground of the ship with the loose Zillo, Wrecker immediately recognised it and knew what it was, so he knows other types of weapons just as easily. Even Fennec used his skill for her gain! (That sounds like a diss, it wasn't, she's my best friend)
Don't get me wrong, Tech is still easily the most intelligent, and I love him dearly, but he is not their demolitions expert. Wrecker is.

Read an infuriating post about The Bad Batch once that went along the lines of this:
“Echo can keep rescuing the regs with Rex or something, lol, but the rest of the Batch deserve to settle down in Pabu at the end of the series!”
Or something.
Or something.
Yeah, that’s our Echo.
Tumblr media
Our ARC trooper, who blew up in battle, spent years as a POW, had his body and mind used as a twisted science experiment to the point where he’s not even considered a regular member of the army anymore, commando, resilient, bad-ass pilot, soldier, dude who had the opportunity to run away like a fucking coward and he said NAH SON THAT AIN'T ME, GIVE MOMMA BIRD HER BEATING STICK and proceeded to run right back into danger to save his brothers using his screwdriver hand and his RAGE and his MAN SKIRT and his MIGHTY FURROWED BROW and FUCK YOU IF YOU'RE GONNA STOP MOMMA BIRD FROM RESCUING EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THE BABIES.
“Or something”.
Tumblr media
Gotta also love how rescuing slaves - their biological siblings, people they grew up with - is less important than retiring on paradise according to this clown.
Echo's goals for saving his people is seen like a fucking HOBBY.
And this, the last episodes of the series, this badass shines like a goddamned diamond. Folks I am VINDACTED.
Tumblr media
Echo rescued his brothers and sisters.
Echo helped destroy an Imperial facility that effectively ended testing on clones, what he went through.
Echo convinced one of the scientists to help him keep unraveling the Empire's evil plans at the end of the series, even though he had a home on paradise AND HAD EVERY REASON TO GIVE IT UP.
I fucking love Echo.
OR SOMETHING!

Poor Mom does not have the time for this conversation right now, and Omega could’ve sworn that everyone in Star Wars was supposed to lose their hand at one point in time.

Online shopping time 🛒 Echo realized that an extra hand can come in handy for disguise 😅 and if Crosshair’s getting one anyways and they are on sale… well why not 😎

Listen. Listen. I'm delusional right?
But... In the training room... Where CX-2 was stabbed. Right above it. There's a door. That looks *suspiciously* like a cryo chamber.
And the blueprints. On Hemlock's desk. They didn't seem to match any of the Operatives.
And why, why why why, were these guys so freaking specialist, with their swords and random gadgety things, when the 'Shadows' were just kind of 'evil clones'.
This feels like an abandoned story thread where Hemlock had alterior motives.
Anyway.
Tech is in that cryo tank. And the place will be shuttered 'indefinitely'. Until Kix and his crew find Intel on Tantiss years later. And crack is open.
And the second Kix sees Tech, he's gonna be like NOPE and slam the door shut and be like 'KEEP HIM IN THERE YOU WILL NEVER SLEEP AGAIN'.

Here's an Idea-
Y'know, as much as I absolutely LOVE even more of a DILF Hunter with his salt and pepper hair (that I'm so incredibly jealous of) and his lovely dad bod, AND the conversation he had with Omega,, I've been thinking-
There were 16 episodes in Season 1. (with the first being 70+ minutes) - for a total of 512 minutes. - 9/15 of these episodes were 30 minutes or more. There were 16 episodes in Season 2. - for a total of 462 minutes. - 6/15 of these episodes were 30 minutes or more (with all the others being short by one or two minutes). There were 15 episodes in Season 3. - for a total of 423 minutes. - 2/15 of these episodes were more than 30 minutes.
The Bad Batch finale had me so fucking frustrated it's making me do MATH. fucking MATH. I'm a Screenwriting Major with a minor in Creative Writing, I haven't taken a math class since Freshman Fall semester!!!!
So if you're wondering, "Hey that felt rushed," you're not crazy or anything because it was!!
LOOK AT THAT DIFFERENCE!! From the first season having more than half of the episodes be more than 30 minutes to the third season not even being a third of that!
OKAY BACK TO MY EARLIER IDEA THOUGH-
I'm not going to say shit about/to the writers or anything because as a writer myself, I'm just,, not going to do that? I'm currently struggling with my own script that I really should be working on but I have Bad Batch brain worms and I'm so fucking frustrated I can't focus on it right not but-
Here's what I would've done:
End the 15 episode with them all under the tree. "Whatever we want, kid. Whatever we want."
Boom, that's it. There it's done. Episode ends there.
THEN!! Have another episode that deals with the aftermath of everything. Considering they're all in their armor and whatnot still, it looks like the last moments happen like almost IMMEDIATELY after they get back.
We don't get to see Wrecker and Crosshair talk or do ANYTHING in reaction to the injuries they sustained on Tantiss. They don't further interact with Omega or really each other. So use that 16th episode to have them do that.
Give Tech a proper send off since ya'll wanted to keep him dead or whatever in that 16th episode and finally talk about him. Let Phee be there too. Actually have an emotional conversation with weight to it. There's SO much there you can explore.
THEN end it with the timeskip with DILF-ier Hunter and a grown up Omega.
Then that would make it all feel a little more complete than abrupt like how it felt for me.
OR
Okay, so you don't want to have a 16th episode? You just want the 15? That's fine. I have an idea for that too!
Alright, everything is the same, you end it with the tree, fade to black okay.
Instead of the timeskip, that portion would've been better served to give Tech his send off. To finally fucking acknowledge him and talk about him outside of being the "brains."
That would've been your chance to have that conversation.
As much as I loved Hunter and Omega's conversation, as hot as Hunter was, and as fucking touching as it was to see Hunter old and alive and living; I think it would've been much better to have that time to talk about Tech instead or something.
Originally, while I was watching it and when I noticed it was an older Omega my immediate thought was "Oh no, is she visiting their graves??" because I couldn't be sure of the timeline and clones age twice as fast so I didn't know how much time had passed.
That wasn't the case (thank god, my heart can only handle one clone grave scene) but I think that honoring Tech and REALLY honoring him - not off hand mentions or staring at broken goggles - would've fit PERFECTLY there.
And don't have it be a timeskip because that timeskip, as wholesome as it was (and again, as fucking hot as Hunter was) just left me feeling empty. I felt like I missed out on a huge chunk of something and I didn't like that.
Just...something where a few days after recovering from everything they all have a moment and sit down and talk about Tech or something. Just something.
Anyways, that's it for my ramblings. That's just how I would've done it.

Tech died get over it
I’m a tech girlie and yes I kinda wish he wasn’t gone but lets be honest, it’s getting old in the Star Wars fandom and marvel and pretty much any piece of media anymore that when a character dies, they can come back at any time…
Yes tech deserved to live his peaceful life with phee on pabu too and I would pay a lot of money to see him as a dilf but it takes away the heaviness of his sacrifice if he was meant to come back anyway. A trope that is sadly used too often nowadays.
Death is sad but it’s literally a part of life and even if these shows are very enjoyable at any age and I admit I myself watch them for confort and escape from our already harsh reality, they’re meant for kids who kinda have to be exposed to these difficult truths to better cope for them in life later on…
So don’t be mad and shit on the crew that worked hard to bring us such a beautiful, action filled story for 3 years just because they followed the laws of life for once and your fave character’s death was a real one. It’s unfortunate but tech would tell you to accept and adapt so do that :)

Everyone saying “why didn’t she mention Echo at the end?” CAUSE HE’S ALREADY OUT THERE KICKING IMPERIAL BUTT AS AN OLD MAN AS HE SHOULD, UNLIKE SOMEONE ELSE WHO DECIDED TO ROT IN A RUSTY DROID EATING LIZARDS FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE-

Wait yall I just had an idea you know how so many people thought it would be Rex who would name Echo base after Echo? What if it’s Omega?
I just made myself really excited about this idea so it’s my headcanon now
