Pokémon 1999 Burger King Gold-Plated Card - Mewtwo

This toy was released as a kid's meal toy in United States starting November 8, 1999 and lasting through December 28, 1999 at participating Burger King stores for an extra $1.99 to those who purchased a meal. This followed the release of the first Pokémon film, which started airing in theaters a couple days prior. This campaign occurred during the boom of the Pokémon craze and would go on to be one of the biggest and arguably most memorable fast food promotions in the country's history.

There are a total of 57 unique toys offered for this promotion that were included with kid's meals. These gold-foil cards were later offered, but as those were a bonus offer, they do not factor into the 57-count. These toys were not available during the start of the promotion and were offered sometime during the campaign as the main line of toys was quickly selling out. These were not given as standard toys, but were a bonus offer to those who bought meals and buyers would receive a random box containing one of these for an additional $1.99 (USD). These cards are plated in real 23-karate (23k) gold. There are six in total.

​However, stocks of these would quickly deplete as these too were a huge success. Due to this, Burger King would release a reprint of these cards, but while the item itself is the same, the packaging is different. The original run was said to be contained in blue boxes while the reprint is said to instead be in red.

According to Symbiote Studios' website, credits to the plush goes as follows: the package art was designed by Isabela Seabra and the product manager was Key Chen.
