“As someone who worked in retail hell, I can easily confirm that. It’s one of the reasons I quiet, I hated people fighting for something so stupid”
“I hope you were at least able to take advantage of the sales before everyone else or something of the sort?” Or maybe extra pay was the simpler incentive. There had to be something, right?

Roy hated the holidays in terms of work. He was patrolling the hallways, an officer dealing with the holiday craze of shopping. A movement that wasn’t too usual caught the corner of Roy’s eyes — always more aware to detail for some reason, when he noticed the female sitting. An eyebrow arched upwards as he stepped forwards, always careful, mostly wanting to make sure if the other was alright. “Hey,” The start of his sentence was soft, trying to figure out if anything happened. “Ma’am, are you alright?”
It took a moment for the words to register with her, to come to the sinking realization that her little meltdown had an audience. She cleared her throat, willing herself to come to a standing position with the help of the shelf behind her, not letting go but remaining upright with little difficulty otherwise. After blinking away the spots in her vision she tried a reassuring smile. “Fine, fine... Sorry for worrying you, I just...” Just what? She grappled for a good lie to cover up the confusing truth and soothe her bruised ego a bit. “I think I need to eat something.”

idlebrained:
moments later, alice appears at the end of the aisle, in desperate need of holiday decorations ( because, emergencies, duh ). her eyes begin to scan the shelves, though they’re quick to lie upon martha. her head tilts to the side curiously ; she glances over her shoulder, coming up with a dozen senseless reasons why the blonde may be sitting there. though from the rough days she’s prone to, she knows the look of distress when she sees it. without a sound, alice approaches the who, taking a seat on the floor as well—across from her. ❝ d’you mind if i keep you company ? ❞ alice asks, voice as gentle as can be.
There were many things Martha privately prided herself on, and her ability to hide what she was truly feeling was on of them. That being said she was glad the first question out of Alice’s mouth wasn’t one that required a lie. Bracing herself for the inevitable what’s wrong, or how are you, and gearing up her automatic nothing, and i’m fine, she tried to deflect for as long as possible. “Of course not, but... You’re sure you want to sit on this floor?” She was still a little surprised to be doing it herself.

FEYRE HADN’T MEANT to watch. or well, maybe she had meant to, but the blonde currently sitting on the target floor didn’t need to know that. steely blue eyes fill with concern and she carefully approaches, kneeling down beside martha with a gentle smile. “is everything alright ?” the former high lady asks, head tilting to the side as she waits for an answer. “you kinda spaced out there for a second. do i need to call someone ?”
The second question was enough to snap her out of it slightly and Martha’s eyes went wide, still foggy enough that her paranoia got the better of her for a moment. “No!- I mean, no thank you...” She did her best to force a pleasant expression, wishing she felt stable enough to hop to her feet and prove her point. “Please don’t call anyone. I don’t want to make a fuss...” Really the last thing she needed was to give her parents an excuse to be even more invasive and controlling in her life.

— he might not have had his own place or have any money, but it didn’t mean zig couldn’t get into the christmas spirit. if that meant just looking at it ( or some possible shoplifting ), so be it. the aisle was very glittery and had the faint smell of cinnamon. it was how his mom’s place had smelt around this time of year. he took a scented pine cone in hand and was contemplating stuffing it into his jacket when he spotted a woman on the ground. he apprehensively set it back down before making his way over to her. “uh, are you okay?”
Martha nodded, but was still too stunned and confused to do much more than that. Each time this happened the visions -whatever they were- felt more and more real. When her mind felt a little clearer after a few moments she looked over at the young man, hoping he didn’t recognize her from the news. That would be even more humiliating. If that was possible. “I wasn’t feeling very well, but I think it’s passed...” Despite her statement she remained on the ground.

She had simply touched a string of Christmas lights while browsing through the store and suddenly it was happening again. The snapshot memories of a foreign town, too real to right off as a movie or story she had once read. Then, just as quickly as they had come, it was all gone. Martha was brought crashing back to reality, standing in the middle of the store, shaking and holding a momentarily forgotten string of lights in one hand. She deposited them on the shelf and took a seat right there on the floor of the store. Melodramatic, maybe a bit, but it was either sit and catch her breath or pass out. And honestly that sounded much more histrionic. Maybe no one had even noticed... She hadn’t looked up from her wringing hands yet to check.

“You know, I never thought the videos of black friday were real until I saw two people on the ground fighting over a toaster. Gotta love it”
Flashbacks of Martha herself running around year after year taking the sales much too seriously flashed before her for a moment, which is why she deflected. “I heard a group of people get into a screaming match over a television a few years ago. They don’t pay those poor employees nearly enough to put up with all that nonsense.”

OPEN STARTER !
the growing line was met with a roll of brown hues and a sigh, as hayley put on her uniform, already fearing the amount of work that awaited her for the day. not only would she have to be there for another five hours, but the rest of the month depended on almost she earned this week and as much as hayley wanted to, it was impossible for her to leave. there was no loving family waiting for her with open arms were she kicked out, no friends to replay on.. she was truly and completely alone. not that it bothered her much, hayley had grown quite used to it, especially since she could blow off some stem later, when no one was watching. and so, with the thought of seeing another full moon, she got the courage she needed to move back to work, placing a permanent polite smile on her expression. when she noticed the customer struggling with what to pick, however, hayley sighed. ‘ if i were you, i’d pick the christmas special. a bit expensive, yeah but totally worth it, if you ask me. ‘
Martha knew she was obviously not the only one who loved Christmas, and yet there was something deep inside her that just resonated with it. The recent strange dreams, both of the sleeping and waking variety, only intensified those feelings. A world that seemed to revolve around Christmas...? It was all so hazy when she wasn’t in the moment remembering. The brunette’s suggestion mildly startled her, but Martha remained composed and smiled instead of instinctively jumping. “I do try to take advantage of anything holiday themed while it’s still the season for it... Yes, I think I will go with that.”

Martha May Whovier | 32 | How the Grinch Stole Christmas
{ + Charismatic & Empathetic } . { - Vain & Inhibited }
* fairy lights, a convincing fake smile, cinnamon tea, and handmade gifts *
when the virtual reality shut down, what was your muse’s reaction ? how did they handle the dark period ?
Her reaction wasn’t very poised. Something about darkness taking over a place like Whoville really got to Martha and she succumbed quickly.
what was their reaction to finding out they were fiction ? how did they feel about the idea of becoming real ?
She was incredibly confused, but glad in a way to finally understand. Willing to do anything to escape the dark and empty world her home had become, she eagerly took up the offer.
before the island, where did they live ? what was their reset life like ? what drew them to the island ?
Martha grew up in Cleveland. She had wealthy but emotionally distant parents who were intent on tailoring her ambitions to what they wanted. Journalism was her passion, but instead of being behind the scenes writing stories and focusing on production they “pulled strings” to help get her in front of the camera. Getting a job in her related field right out of college should have been exciting and yet Martha couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed being a weather girl. Fast forward several years and she was starting to feel burnt out. When a job offer came to work for a different news station located on an island Martha jumped at the chance.
what are some of the events, twists, or turns that the fans voted on ?
The first was the death of her sister when she was in high school. The second was her profession. The third was her (ex)fiancé cheating on her when she was 25.
does your character have any secrets ( big or small ) that they think are private when in reality they were broadcasted live to the whole world ?
A big secret that she keeps from everyone in her life is that she smokes.
what are the major similarities between the character’s canon life & their reset life ? what about the differences ?
She was an only child in her canon life, but she had a sister in her reset life. Her personality is the same and she still profoundly loves Christmas.
how much of their old life do they remember ? what triggered these memories? when did their memories return ?
She only remembers Whoville in general; the architecture, physical appearance of the whos, etc, but she doesn’t have any personal memories yet. Shopping for a new Christmas tree angel triggered the vague memories she has so far and that was a month ago. More will start coming to her in dreams and if she were to meet someone from her past memories involving them would come flooding back to her.
{ OOC }
Hi lovely people! I’m Bailey and, in case it wasn’t obvious with my character, I’ve been binging Christmas movies like crazy ever since Thanksgiving ended. When it isn’t the holidays I watch a lot of tv. I’m currently working through Fear the Walking Dead but I’ve been getting the urge to rewatch 30 Rock lately, so I might start that again soon. I’ve also been lowkey obsessed with Pokemon let’s go I caught a shiny Ponyta and I’m still embarrassingly excited about it.
Anyway, I might make a discord at some point, but until I do I’d love to hear from people through the IMs and I’ll be reaching out myself as well!
