The agreement was a relief; the last thing Ducky wanted was having to knock him out and worry about a potentially furious military man on his tail.
Ducky wasn't sure which was worse: 'furious', or 'military'. Or why the idiom mentioned a tail. Humans were famously tailless.
"I'd like to clarify something, Mister Carver." Ducky lifted its eyes and stared into the distance over the man's shoulder - something it did purely as the 'augmented human in their feed' act. "I'm not the bright-eyed, freshly out of uni and on their first assignment kind of assistant." Sending over a detailed map of the facility and the area from its own storage, Ducky walked over to the side of the room to sit back against a panel at an angle so Mister Carver wouldn't see its 'wounded' cheek.
It accessed what little cameras were still functioning and their half destroyed recordings, running a query for any significant movement, hoping that they flew into any of the still monitored directions. It didn't like its odds - they had been thorough with disabling the security system.
"I'm more of a secretary managing the Professor's schedule and affairs so he can focus on his work kind of an assistant. I'm the one doing babysitting." Its performance rating was increasing at a steady rate and it enjoyed the expanding capacity.
"We were out collecting samples, with Professor and Doctor Carver; it was already a hostage situation when we came back." It grimaced, sticking the MedPack to its 'wounded' cheek, counting on the patch to cover up the lack of damage. "She's a great team lead." A rarity among humans. With her leading the team, their chances of survival were actually non-zero.
As the gun was lowered, so were Ducky's hands. It shifted it's weight awkwardly looking over the room. The fact Carver didn't notice it was a SecUnit was a relief, but then game his demand it stays behind.
For the briefest of moments - staring at the MedPack - Ducky considered coming clean just to be sure Carver doesn't get in its way to saving Professor and preferably others too. Playing coy had been exactly the reason Ducky had been eliminated in the first place. It should have came in guns blazing, shoot first and ask questions later...
It stepped closer to pick up the MedPack and took control of the remaining lights in the room. "I'm coming with you." It turned all the lights on, then turned off the half behind it and started turning them on an off, the 'on' half spinning around the room. "It's unofficial, but I can hack systems. I'll be useful, Mister Carver."
Not even opening the MedPack and holding the man's gaze, Ducky pulled recordings from the dying station system, cleaned it up and sent to Carver's feed.
"There were nine of them here, but they spoke of their boss at their base, that it would be her decision whether they switch to ransom, or not." Ducky hoped she would be as greedy as her goons. "I got an impression it's a planet surface station and not a ship in orbit." Thought it had been long time ago, and they might have departed and went into hyperspace to god knows where.
Not good.

Not good.
Self-repair without a Cubicle, or even a Med System, to jump-start it was painfully slow. Would have been painful too if Ducky hadn't turned off the pain receptors the first time it came online. Only to crash right after.
Was it the base coming back online that finally sparked it awake for good? Perhaps. It was hard to say. Those two could be a simple correlation, not a causation and Ducky did not have time to study it.
They had kidnapped Professor Conchobar. Ducky had to find him, hoping that it had ended only on kidnapping, and nothing worse.
Walking through the eerily empty corridors to the source of activity - its risk assessment module going haywire - Ducky moved its jaw, trying to make the freshly regrown and still covered in blood and fluids skin stop tingling.
How would it explain to the rest of the team that it survived the shot to the head? How much of it had they actually seen? Would it be able to claim it only grazed its temple, instead of blowing up half of its face?
Ducky had known it had been mistake since it rummaged through the team's personal data, but it was too late by then. The same rummaging was the reason Ducky walked into the room with its hands up instead of trying to sneak and disarm the newcomer.
"John Carver, yes? Doctor Carver's husband." Ducky stepped further into the room but remained at a respectful/safe distance, by the door, looking at the man with both its eyes and through the barely functioning cameras - the intruders had trashed the place. "My name is Bellis Link, I'm an assistant on Doctor Carver's team." It refused to even think it was assistant. Past tense.
It double-checked it was running the 'fidgeting' code, making it shift its weight and twitch and be humanly-like unable to stay still. It did. Good.
Ducky's performance climbed a point, something clicked in its mind and the performance dropped two, or five notches. Still recovering, Ducky had forgotten Doctor Carver's husband was a military man; one that probably had encountered SecUnits before. Not good.
"We were attacked by mercenaries." Ducky continued, hoping its momentary panic would be taken as emotional response to the memories. "Doctor Carver convinced them we were worth more alive, then dead. I was injured and left behind unconscious; I've only just came to."

🌐 — As a data archaeologist, Damara had loads of contacts John knew only little about. And that was okay, his knowledge about her work was always very limited and a lot of what she did was just as secretive as some of his own missions in the past.
He has briefly seen some faces of people she was in contact and worked together with, but never asked any questions. When she suddenly disappeared during a mission, though...? He's tracing back her last steps on a planet where she and a small team salvaged data from an abandoned research station. He found their equipment there, but not his wife, and not any other of her small team.
No, he shouldn't have gone there alone, without letting any of his own team know about. But this was a private affair, not something he wanted to pull anyone else into.
While searching one of the still working computers within the station, it is the sound of footsteps that have him turn around, his readied pulse rifle lifted up between his hands.
"Who's there?!" Someone of Damara's team? Or another intruder?

"I can see you're agitated. Can I recommend an age appropriate colouring book to relieve this stress? Don't worry, I know it might be difficult for you, but you do not need to stay within lines."
Even before hacking its governor module, the fact Ducky had a child-calibrated caregiver module allowed it to be patronising toward humans. Comments that would get the governor module to fry its brain were approved by the caregiver module as appropriate responses and no one could prove Ducky was sarcastic if it acted genuine.
The problem is that Ducky also defaults to caregiver phrases when panicking.
