The Whisper Beyond the Rain
The rain began just as Mia settled into bed, a soft, rhythmic tapping against her window. She loved nights like this, where the sound of rain felt like a lullaby. But tonight, something felt... different.
As she closed her eyes, she heard faint footsteps outside her window, squelching in the mud. "Probably just the neighbor's dog," she thought, pulling the blanket tighter.
Then came the knock.
Soft at first, as if hesitant. A single knock on the glass. She froze, her heart racing. Her apartment was on the third floor.
Knock. Knock.
She turned toward the window, the rain streaking down the glass in twisting rivers. At first, she saw nothing but the dim reflection of her room. But then, a pale face emerged from the darkness, pressed against the glass, its eyes wide and unblinking.
Mia gasped, stumbling out of bed. The face didn’t move. It was as if it was waiting. Watching.
Gathering her courage, she slowly stepped closer to the window. "Who's there?" she whispered, her voice trembling.
The figure tilted its head, its mouth curling into an unnatural smile. The rain outside seemed to grow louder, masking every other sound.
Suddenly, the face disappeared. But the knocking continued, now coming from her front door.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
Her phone was nowhere to be found. The rain roared like a symphony in her ears as she crept toward the door. She peered through the peephole, her breath shallow.
Nothing.
But when she turned to step back, she heard it—a voice, low and guttural, whispering from the other side of the door:
"You shouldn't have looked."
The lights flickered. And then, the rain stopped.

Never Trust Your Reflection
Why isn’t my reflection moving?” The thought hit her too late.
Maya had always felt uneasy about the antique mirror in her bedroom. It had been a gift from her grandmother, who swore it was a family heirloom. Every night, Maya would glance at it briefly, trying to ignore the faint chill it sent down her spine.
One stormy night, as lightning lit up her room, she sat in front of the mirror brushing her hair. The sound of the wind howling outside was the only noise accompanying her. She wasn’t paying much attention—until something strange caught her eye.
Her reflection wasn’t moving.
Maya froze, her heart pounding in her chest. She raised her hand. The reflection stayed perfectly still. Then, slowly, it began to smile—a cold, unnatural grin that didn’t belong on her own face.
Fear gripped her. The hairbrush slipped from her fingers and clattered to the floor. Her reflection leaned closer to the glass, lips parting as if it wanted to speak. Then, in a voice that sent chills down her spine, it whispered: "You shouldn’t have looked at me for this long."
Maya scrambled back, her hands trembling as she reached for the door. But before she could move, the mirror began to crack—not with a shatter, but with a deep, splintering sound, as though something inside it was breaking free.
The last thing Maya saw was her reflection stepping out of the mirror, its grin widening as it reached for her.
The next morning, her parents found the mirror shattered into a thousand pieces—and Maya was nowhere to be found. All that remained was a single handprint on the glass, pressed from the inside.
