Jade eyes shifted to the manâs visage, interest piqued by his â lack thereof. Mass hysteria had a track record in Salem, after all, a namesake, if you will. Peculiarly, he had negated the time spent cogitating if this would evolve to another myth the city would prop up as word of God, a tourist attraction that would prep them like circus animals, in spite of how different tragedy was looked upon in the modern society. Orion had half a mind to keep the news to himself and tuck his phone away into his pocket, but there was a nagging that he couldnât resist. Resting the device on the table, he slid it in the other maleâs direction, clutch remaining steadfast ( sticky hands and stickier possessiveness of his own belongings, scrounging over poverty for a few years alongside his brother developed a knack for squirreling away what he owned and bristling uncomfortably when another person touched it with their dirty little fingers as if heâd condoned such disgustingly puerile behaviorism ). âWhat do you make of it?â he asked, flat apathy aiding the casual manner of their discussion. While everyone else was scrambling as if their head had been cut off, he had been holding his high and surveying the surroundings for signs of an external crumpling. ( You did the right thing. He was going to â ) Funny how well you can convince yourself if you try hard enough. A chill tiptoed down his spine, ignored by the tacit artist, sipping from the water he had ordered to quench his parched throat and shredded vocal cords. The face before him was â familiar; then, everything had been bleared lately, who could tell if they had crossed paths? The past week had been a fog, aside from the daily routine of tossing his antipsychotic behind the bush in the parking lot of the condominium complex while smoking his morning cigarette to a pulp. âI suppose it has never failed them before to urge everyone to turn to religion, just like the witch trials. Perhaps theyâll suggest burning the Blackwells at the stake next.â The coarse execution was dry, corners of stubbled lips curvating upward and mirroring the manâs shrug, adding hoarsely, âWhat gain would he have from culling his own child, though? A life insurance policy? I truly doubt.â
Tough one. Cody just shrugged his shoulders. Some could say he was quiet emotionless when faced upon danger but he liked to think it was something that he got from his recklessness. It wasnât that he didnât have any fear but he had expectations of dying or getting hurt ahead most who werenât as much as a daredevil as he was. He could call himself apathetic too since it just felt like he had lost his ability to feel substantial feelings since his heart got ripped in two. He even didnât seem to hold a longer remorse for what he did to the manâs brother although he wasnât sociopathic by any means and still felt bad for his actions. He just didnât care if he got yelled at or hated it was something he was used to. âI donât know. Just that we might be screwed? Maybe theyâll try to force us to do their biddings otherwise people get hurt? This place isnât safe thatâs for sure and they pay good money to cover up these things later.â Having met the founder himself he wasnât all too impressed by him but he enjoyed the extra bucks promised to be sent into his account. Cody was already rich and all he wanted was some sick satisfication. Huh. Maybe he really was a sociopath. He laughed a bit at the suggestion and he shook his head though agreeing. âWouldnât be surprised if they did. Maybe theyâre just repeating history all over again and weâre fucking stuck in a tragic loop.â Cody shrugged as he took another bite of his food. âSome people do sacrifice plays. I donât know him enough to know how far heâs willing to go but you can never tell. Strifes can make you go insane.â He said. âWhat do you make of it?âÂ

[ ugly mug diner. ]
âThe news is certainly determined to drag out this whole⌠fiasco.â The artist would have scoffed and rolled his eyes by now, were it not for the news article that had popped up on his smartphone feed. The fittingly cryptic title of COMATOSE NEW YEARâS VICTIM MISSING FROM HOSPITAL caused the hairs to stand up on the back of his neck during his lunch break, disturbing his appetite and scrolling through it in its entirety for any suspect hint that the enforcement had a clue of its culprit. Considering the squalor his spouse and best friend had been corkscrewed in, Orion had been exhausting efforts to ingratiate the two frazzled individuals, chawing paranoia in lonesome moments settled before his desk. Itâs finally catching up â The musk of coal permeated through his scent as if it were interned there, the phantom of his grave nightmares ascending from underground â in a mirror, weâre the same. Casting a glance in the direction of the person he was speaking to to affirm, again, that they were truly present ( unlike the deviant shadows that would trek several steps behind ), he arched his brows. âHave you heard the latest news coming out of the new year yet?â he questioned, genuinely intrigued by what the rest of the city was ingesting of the mysterious killings. First impressions were vital to the traction it would receive in the rest of the town, were it not? Jade eyes then returned to his phone, setting it aside with a rattled exhale, a scowl enunciating the discoloration of scar tissue on his visage and restlessly shifting oedematous feet in his comfortable slip-ons. âLeave it to Salemâs own Alister Warhol to redirect us all to the fucking pulpit, useless as ever,â he muttered, picking up his fork to dig into his scrambled eggs.
Cody was to say at least glad he hadnât been one of the people harmed by the occasion at least not to the extent where he would be injured again. He was lucky enough to have run as fast as he could after gathering drinks and proceeding to act like an idiot to make sure he wouldnât stand out too much like an idiot. In the heap of the crowd that tactic had saved him and he had only a few bruises appearing on his skin but nothing that could be considered concerning. He started thinking as he looked at the television that maybe this was all a blessing in disguise. Non one really talked about his betrayal anymore. Not that he cared much in the first place. But it was nice to have something else be the center of attention. As morbid as that could sound. Cody happened to sit next to Orion when he watched the news. He didnât know if Orion was the type to hold a grudge for what he did to his brother but he didnât like he cared. âNot yet.... I donât watch the news that often but I think itâs maybe just another person freaking out and asking if weâre safe here.â He said shrugging his shoulders nonchalantly as he ate his pancakes. âThat man can do nothing but cage us like weâre rodents. If anything maybe heâs involved in all that. I wouldnât be surprised.â He added shrugging.Â

lightemupleoâ:
Location: Salem Forest Park
Leo sat on the cold, leaf-covered ground and threw a couple more sticks onto the fire. It was a small one, nothing enormous, but it was enough to give her that warm, buzzy feeling in her head. The kind that other kids chased after with booze or weed, and she didnât mind either one, but this was so much better. A crackling campfire, the only light around for miles among the trees. She had a book open in her hands, but she was barely reading it, her focus on the bright orange flames. It took her a second to realize that someone else had stepped into the firelight. âKind of a private party,â she joked, glancing over. It took effort to tear her eyes away from the fire. âUnless you brought marshmallows. Or know a good ghost story. Then you can definitely stay.âÂ
Cody wasnât a nature person by any means. He was more of a city guy who liked getting drunk and wasting his nights wasted but he wanted something quite different this evening as he was growing tired of his friends nagging him to pay for all the fees. The forest was an eerie place but he liked how isolated it could be when he needed to be alone. He walked around wrapped in a hoodie as coldness was beginning to settle. He didnât enjoy winter much. It gave him no energy and urged him to just stay hidden in his blankets. As he walked around he couldnât help but notice a lone girl talking to him. Usually heâd turn on his charm but he was in the weird mood where he just wanted some peace. Couldnât hurt having someone to talk to though. âI bare nothing but me and my sensual body Iâm afraid. I guess that isnât enough?â He asked jokingly with a chuckle. âI got some Snickers though.âÂ

Getting her mail was never the most pleasant experience for Hads. It wasnât like anyone would be mailing her any checks. No, instead she would get bill after bill. One from her stay in the hospital four years back, one from the vet for when Scuttle decided her headphones looked like a tasty snack. That was hundreds of dollars just for the vet to hell her heâd shit them out in a day or so. But lucky for her, this time there was something a little different waiting for her. âYouâve got to be kidding meâ, the blonde exclaimed, looking at the letter in her hands. âJury duty? I just thought that was like an urban myth. How does this even happen?â
âSucks to be you.â Okay maybe not the best response to someone who was freaking out over her turn but Cody couldnât help but find the look on the girlâs face a bit hilarious though he knew to not laugh at someoneâs pain. âGot mine done a long time ago and it was one of the worst times in my life. Just suffer through it. Beats being thrown in lockup. Try to kick back and relax if you can.â As if it was easy. But it was easier talking about when all was said and done.Â

Would you consider yourself to be someone that skates by in life, or a go-getter?
âSkate by definitely. You waste all the fun if you spend too much time always itching for something. Just enjoy life the way it is.â

Anyone on the singles docket that's caught your eye around town?
âWell it used to be Cyrek but since the man is now spoken for and Iâm positive he loathes me for what I did.... Maybe the girl that I saved. Jessica or something. She wouldnât have made it without me.â
